10. How Well Do We Know Each Other?

921 Words
ANGEL’S POV “No kissing,” Curtis shouted. I tried to hush him but luckily there was no one else on the roof with us. That was the kind of attention that I didn’t need right now. I groaned, placing my head in my hands. Ben leaned forward putting a hand on my arm. “Talk to us, Angel. What reservations do you have?” I looked up at his caring face whilst Curtis’s face is still twisted as he tries to wrap his head around, no kissing. “Why me?” I ask. “I know you two have a bond that only you understand, but why choose me?” Ben smiles. “Because you’re perfect. You keep us grounded, Angel. You make us laugh when we get lost in our heads.” “And your smoking hot, especially with these new curves.” Curtis whispers in my ear. I almost jump out of my chair, how was he able to get up and over here without me noticing. He walks around to Ben’s side and kneels in front of me, his face turning serious for a while. “When you were gone, we were in agony. We even lost each other for a little while.” He says looking between the two. “Back then neither of us understood what happened and what made you run and we blamed each other. What got us back together was the hope that you would some day come home. We’ve been through some rough times and you were the light in our darkness. You anchor us, Angel.” I can feel my eyes beginning to water. “We hate how our growing relationship was ruined by someone’s idea of a sick joke.” “We know that you won’t be able to easily forget the pain you went through but we all shared the same feelings before and I think we still do now.” Ben says. Both of them are searching my eyes for a sign. I smile and nod at my boys. “A lot has changed since we last saw each other so what if we start again. Four dates to get to know each other a bit better like it’s the first time all over again and perhaps no heavy make out sessions but a few kisses here and there until you give us the all clear.” Ben suggests. I nod again. “I would like that.” Curtis leans in and our lips press together softly and slowly which compared to earlier is a welcome change. It lasts for five seconds and then he withdraws letting Ben have a turn. Ben stands up a little and leans across the table. His calloused hand lifts my chin so our faces are aligned and then he places his lips over mine. It’s a straightforward kiss, nothing more, nothing less but it’s perfect. We all take ours seats again and finish our meal with some light chit chat and a game of 20 questions. Curtis’s favourite movie is still Pretty Woman thanks to the time I made him watch it and Ben still gets up at stupid time o’clock to swim each morning. We part at the restaurant because Ben says he can’t trust Curtis to say goodbye at my apartment door. I go to sleep that night smiling away to myself, when I had called Nanna and got past her many questions, I discovered that the office already had new furniture and everyone had got it looking normal again. That was a weight off my shoulders and I was happy knowing that my boys were back in my heart as well as my life I was fast asleep when I heard knocking on my door. When I couldn’t ignore it anymore I stomped grumpily at the door. It was 4am. Who in their right mind would be stupid enough to wake me up at this time? I opened the door to find Curtis and Ben. “Well I guess that answers our question,” Curtis states before pushing past me gently and entering my apartment. I stare at him flabbergasted. Ben shrugs his shoulders and then follows Curtis. I had no choice but to head to the kitchen where they were starting my coffee machine. “What are you doing here?” “Taking you on a date, silly,” Curtis mocks. “New rule. Dates have to occur between the hours of 9am and 11pm. Goodbye.” I try walking back to my room but arms swing around my waist and by the prickling on my shoulder I can tell it’s Ben. “Trust us,” he whispers. “This is something you don’t want to miss.” I roll my eyes. “Fine.” He kissed me on the cheek and I thank god my back is turned or he would see the pink rising in my cheeks. “Get ready and Curtis will have coffee for you because we both know you can’t function with an caffeine in the morning.” He pushes me forward and I go and get changed. Curtis holds my cup of coffee hostage until I’m in the car with them both and have no way of escape. They drive for ages and finally stop when we reach the reserve. We start hiking until they stop and we sit on a picnic blanket with some bacon baps. We’re munching away when the light catches my eye. I stand up and the boys copy my action. All of us stand there in awe at the sight of the sun rising for a new day. “To new beginnings.” Ben says. I look at him and smile. “To a new us.” He puts his arm around my waist and rests his forehead on the side of my head. Curtis does the same and we stand there, our arms entwined, our hearts in sync. The three of us breathing as one.
