11. Jealousy

ANGEL’S POV Ben and Curtis had been the perfect gentleman whenever they were around me. We had now had a date on the roof, watched the sunrise, gone to the ballet and been ice skating. After the sunrise date there was no more super early rises which was a welcomed relief and I think even they had discovered it was a bad idea. It was probably falling asleep in the car on the way back to the apartment and then again in the middle of a meeting that gave it away. It’s important a girl gets their beauty sleep. Tonight I had a night off from dates as a few of the officials from work had been invited to a party by the mayor. I was taking Nanna’s place. She was apparently now too old for parties though I knew she was going out I play bingo with her neighbour. It was a party for businesses with a future which in other words meant a good way to get us all to mingle and help each other out. I chose to wear a black and silver dress which went to the top of my calves. Slowly I was getting used to revealing a little more. Don’t get me wrong, you will never catch me in hot pants but for now this was a small amount that I could deal with. A car picked me up at seven and drove me to the venue. I flashed my invitation and entered the glamorous ballroom. How was a place like this possible? It was simply stunning. I was busy smiling away at myself that I almost overlooked him but when I looked again I saw him standing at a table by himself, drinking away. He saw me and I smiled but he didn’t. Ben looked scared and walked away. I followed his movement and watched as he went over to Curtis. He looked up to me and shared the same expression as Ben. They didn’t seem happy at all to see me. “Angel,” I looked over at a few of my colleagues and went over to them. They got me a drink and I was more than happy to gulp away at it. Why were they ignoring me? Is it because I haven’t fully committed yet? If that was how they were going to act then stuff them. I wasn’t a girlfriend they could hire out when they liked and if they weren’t going to appreciate it then someone else could have my attention. “Can I get you another drink?” Apparently my prayers were on first class delivery. A dapper looking chap was standing next to me. I smiled at him. “I would gladly accept.” So my dapper chaps name is Jason. He’s the owner of his own business which creates logos and a personal image for any brand. It was quite impressive work and he had done a lot of travelling. He was just telling me a story about his latest trip to Dubai when I could see two figures lurking. They were hanging on our every word and sending daggers at me. I put my hand on Jason’s arm to stop him mid flow. “I’m sorry, I have to pop to the little girls room. Will you get me another drink, while I’m gone?” He was more than happy to agree. I walked out of there and turned around expecting to see them but there was no one else there. My arm was suddenly yanked and a door shut behind me. I was pressed against the wall and Curtis was stood in front of me, his faces centimetres away from mine. “Is it your intention on driving us crazy with jealousy?” he asked before he started placing kisses on my neck. Each touch was a flame, rising my temperature and tempting me to moan. I looked at Ben. “I’m sorry, I thought you were ignoring me,” I mocked. Ben stepped forward shaking his head as he placed his hand on my stomach. “We didn’t expect you that’s all. Why don’t we get out of here?” He asked. Curtis removed his lips from my skin long enough to say, “I think that’s a good idea.” I nodded. Ben placed a kiss on my right cheek and dragged Curtis away. “We’ll say our goodbyes and meet you at the door.” They left giving me time to compose myself. I looked in the mirror and gasped at the hickey now on my neck. CURTIS! Thankfully my hair is long enough to cover it. I take it down to cover it up and head back out to bid Jason a goodbye and collect my bag. When I get back in the room there’s a man on stage and I recognise him straight away, he’s Curtis’s father. “We couldn’t pass this opportunity by without telling you all the news that we hope to soon expand our business with the Heller’s help.” An old man and a beautiful young girl appeared on the stage next to Curtis, Ben, Zach (Curtis’s brother), their mother and father. “And we hope to celebrate it with the engagement of my son Curtis and Gina Heller.” He pushed Curtis into the middle so he was stood next to the supermodel. Curtis looked less than pleased and then his eyes caught mine in the audience and I think he had a pretty good idea of how I was feeling. Angry. Sad. Humiliated. And thirsty.
