12. Too much to handle

ANGEL’S POV “I think you’ve had enough to drink.” I stare at Jason as he tries to take my drink away from me. It’s a faulty move because my grip is a lot stronger. I had thought that after a couple of drinks, my head would have stopped spinning. It hasn’t. I can still see them, standing proudly by their father as they meet and greet fancy people. I growled. “I’m going home.” Jason helped stabilise me when I almost fell off the stool. His hands were a welcome support as we headed outside to the long line of people all trying to get a taxi cab, home. Jason started leading me away from the crowd. “Come on, we stand more of a chance around the corner.” I stumble along with him; focusing hard on just putting one foot after another without head butting the concrete. Those boys had already hurt me I wasn’t going to be physically wounded as well. “Finally,” Jason says. I look up from my shiny shoes and notice no one. We’re in an alley completely alone and before I can even open my mouth and ask I’m pushed roughly against the wall. Jason’s mouth smacks against mine. I keep it firmly shut but he bites my lip, getting the reaction he wants as he enters by force. I use all my strength to push him away but he’s back within seconds attacking my neck and then he stops. He flicks my hair to the side and i know he’s found the mark Curtis left. “You slut.” He shouts. He steps back and slaps me across the face. The sheer force sends me to the ground and now my hand is scratched and my cheek stings. I can feel tears forming in my eyes. Where are you, Curtis? Where are you, Ben? Jason is fuming, shouting from the top of his lungs and I only see his leg seconds before it kicks me in the stomach. I clutch my stomach tightly, tears now breaking free. “Stop.” I beg. Jason grabs my hair and his hand is slipping underneath my dress. No. I won’t be a victim. My head swings forward and crashes against his. He stumbles back and gets up angrier, but before he can reach me someone pushes him. “Leave.” Jason listens and straightens himself up. My saviour turns around and I notice him straight away from the matching blonde hair, the fancy clothing and the confident stance. It was Curtis’s brother- Zach. He comes over and helps me stand up. “Are you alright?” “Yeah. Honestly I am. Bit wobbly, but some drugs and a good night sleep will fix it.” “Here,” he says, giving me a hand to the street again where he hails a cab with ease. “Do you want me to tell my brothers?” “No.” I reply almost instantly. Zach looks at me, searching for doubt but I have none. I don’t want them to know. They wouldn’t react well. “Get home safety.” He says and shuts the door. I’m more than glad when I reach the apartment. I turn the lights on and hiss at the brightness. Turning them back off I scramble to the fridge and open a bottled water, forcing myself to drink it all. What was I thinking? How could I be so stupid! To say I felt idiotic would be an understatement. I should never have let myself get in the kind of situation. Both my stomach and face hurt and I desperately wanted to shower and scrub away the essence of Jason, but I felt numb. All I could do was sit on the couch. I managed to pry my feet out of my shoes and sat there for a couple of hours until frantic knocking came at my door. I opened it to find Zach and a cop. “Angel, I need you to come forward and report Jason. He attacked a staff member but it’s her word against his.” The cop intervened. “Miss, where you attacked tonight?” “Yes.” “Will you come with me to the hospital to get checked up and make an official report.” I could see the serious panic in Zach’s face. “Of course.” My slipper boots where the closest shoes so I put them on and grabbed both a hoodie and coat. Now more than ever I wanted to be covered up. Zach explained the full story to me as we drove to the hospital. A female staff member had been found sexually assaulted and she claimed it was Jason though he was denying it. That swine. We got out the car and ushered to the waiting room. There was a huddle of people already there and Ben and Curtis were with them and their entire family. “Angel?” “What are you doing here?” A police officer and a nurse came into the room and everyone watched as they walked straight to me. “Please, Miss. follow us.” I did as I was told. Behind me I could hear Curtis and Ben asking Zach what the hell was going on and he was telling them everything.
