Durante glanced around at the simple décor in Katie’s home. He’d only found one picture; a group photo taken in front of the new S.E.S building. It was shot not far from where she had been attacked, and from Nicole’s absence and Katie’s lack of injury, he could tell it was taken shortly before the incident. She stood next to Meghan Freeman and John Markham. Both were prominent people in their little environmental group. There were a couple of other people he didn’t recognize standing around them. He picked up the photo and surveyed the room again, thinking it a strange she would choose this one picture to display. There were no family photos, no graduation or special event photos, just one picture taken mere days before and almost at the exact spot where she had almost been murdered.
