11 “What are we doing?” Alice asked Ted. To his credit, he didn’t ask what she meant. He shook his head. Seemed to be having trouble with it himself. He was the one who brought Marnie to the Aviary in the first place. Alice wasn’t responsible for that. “She has to be able to fly,” Alice said. “You know that. But now with all the damage…” Her voice caught. She cleared it. This wasn’t a time to appear weak. She needed logic. Facts. She needed to protect Marnie.
