Oblivion

I can hear panting and several footsteps coming near me. “Hey, what happened here?” Zachary asked. “Why did you call us?” Kim asked. “Where’s your mom?” Jeremy asked confused. “I – I – I don’t know” I stuttered in confusion. “She – She – She was just… here. I – I – I just turned around – and ran and when I turn back – she’s… gone” I added. “Wh…Wh…What do you meeean?” Zachary asked worriedly. “I just… I felt… hot… and then… light… a white light.” I stuttered. “A light? What do you mean a light?” Jeremy asked. “A light… like a… big f-flashlight.” I stuttered. “A flashlight?” Jeremy asked unconvinced. I started trembling. I feel ill. My insides feel hot like I was having a fever. I took a deep breath. My eyes started to close. “Ethan! Ethan! Can you hear us?” Zachary said as he tried slapping me awake. “Eeeeeethaaaaaaaan!” they screamed as they shook my body. I fell down and passed out.   I woke up. I looked in my surroundings. I noticed that I’m in some sort of white-themed room with plain white walls and with white bordered windows. The room also had some sort of white cabinets and beside me was a silver transport trolley with a silver tray. And on the opposite side was a machine that goes “beep beep” every second. There was also a working television that was set to the news channel. I’m still dizzy and my vision is blurry. I can hear the words that the newscaster says but I don’t understand it. I looked down at my body and noticed I’m covered with a white-patterned blanket. I tried to move and noticed that my hand was heavy. I looked at it and realized that it had a drip. A hospital drip or intravenous fluids. I realized that I’m in a hospital room and the machine beside me that goes “beep beep” is actually a heart monitor. But there was no one around. Not my mother, my friends, or any nurses. “Where could they be?” I thought. “Why am I here?” I tried remembering what happened before that brought me here but I’m so dizzy that my brain won’t work. I closed my eyes as I wanted to rest. Suddenly, someone came into the room. “Hello Ethan.” The stranger said. “Who are you?” I asked. “Hi! I’m your nurse and I’ll be taking care of you.” She enthusiastically said. “If you want or need anything, just click this button here and I’ll try to give it to you.” She added while pointing to the button. “Where am I?” I asked. “You’re in St. Luke’s Hospital.” She answered. “Why am I here?” I asked. “You fainted, earlier in the morning.” She answered. “I – I – fainted? Who brought me here? Where’s my mom?” I asked. “I believe it was your friends who called the ambulance.” She guessed. “Do you remember anything that happened before you fainted?” She added. “Uhhh… I – I - don’t know… I - don’t – remember.” I stammered. “Well, don’t try too hard or you’ll hurt yourself. Just rest, relax, and call me if you need anything, okay?” she uttered. She nodded and left the room. I stayed still as my body is still hurting. I heeded the nurse’s advice and tried to take a rest. I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep to the tune of the television’s voices. I slept.
