ALICE The police had barely finished cuffing the men when one of the paramedics turned toward me with a frown that made my stomach tighten. “You are bleeding,” she said. I almost laughed at that, because I honestly had not felt it yet. The rush had still been in my veins, my focus locked on the chaos settling down around us.
