ALICE I should never have kissed him. The thought echoed in my skull the moment my eyes fluttered open. Bright morning light filtered through Leonard’s bedroom curtains, soft enough to be kind, but not soft enough to quiet the heat blooming across my cheeks. My clothes were somewhere on the floor, his arm rested across my waist. That alone nearly sent me into cardiac arrest. I held my breath and eased myself out from under it, inch by careful inch, trying not to disturb him. His breathing stayed slow, steady. Thank the moon.
