1:Desperate truth
In the private chamber of an exclusive club in Sunvale city, a gathering of elegantly attired and intellectually vibrant young individuals has convened.
Kara: "Ethan, when do you plan on formalizing your commitment to Olivia?"
With her long black curly hair cascading over her shoulders like a shawl and possessing a countenance akin to that of a porcelain doll, Kara, Cain's girlfriend, poses the question.
Ethan: "This year is the chosen time."
Adjusting his glasses with finesse, Ethan bestows upon Kara, his friend's companion for the evening, an affable smile. He then turns towards Olivia nestled in his embrace. "I had intended to propose to Olivia last year; however, she believes this year holds even greater significance," he explains.
Cain: "That's splendid." Sporting a smile directed at Kara, Cain declares with enthusiasm,"Kara and I have plans for our own engagement later this year."
Ryan: "Really? Cain, are you and Kara getting engaged?" Ryan interrupts his cake consumption momentarily as excitement fills his eyes—large orbs reflecting innocence and flawlessness. He continues playfully,"Ryan here thinks we share such an exceptional bond; why not contribute financially?"
Cain: "Get lost!"
Alex: "Ethan and Cain certainly waste no time." Alex sits cross-legged on the sofa wearing a contented grin while calmly voicing his observation.
Noah: "Congratulations."
Noah winks at Ethan teasingly,"It's unfortunate though; there will be fewer good comrades to engage in mischief with."
They exchange smiles amongst themselves while Lucas—a usually reserved individual seated beside them—rarely opens his mouth but does so now accompanied by a smile.
Lucas: "An engagement celebration? Rest assured I shall provide nothing short of excellence!"
Within this private enclave resides individuals who have all recently graduated from Brooklyn University—an institution situated within an idyllic old castle surrounded by expansive forests and shimmering turquoise lakes.
The university was founded in the 16th century by an old and influential noble family. Earl of Brooklyn, who wanted to establish an institution that would last for centuries. The university initially admitted only children from royal and noble families, but gradually expanded to include the wealthiest and most influential families in the world.
as they were little children, Kar-Morgan and Olivi Henderson have been friends as their families are close business partners. Some of the most important individuals from Brooklyn University's business and math schools become close as Olivia and Ethan and Kara and Cain get together.
Everyone was having a nice time and laughing around. Suddenly, Ethan's phone rings. With a nod, he takes it up.
"What's up, Ethan?" inquired his roommate Noah, a fourth-year college student, in a somewhat apprehensive tone as he ended the conversation, wearing a small frown.
A worried expression appears behind Ethan's spectacles, and he furrows even more, saying, "Elena has run away from home again."
Ethan's true sister, Elena, is just a year younger than he is, which demonstrates how awful their connection is based on the fact that they share a first name.
The normally peaceful ambiance in the private area momentarily became hushed due to these remarks.
Kara scowls a little, clearly showing concern: "Elena left? How could she get there? Is that possible?"
Olivia tugs Ethan's sleeve out of concern as well. "Ethan, it's risky for Elena to be alone outside. How about we head out to find her?"
Since everyone in the room shares Kara's concern, they all need to get up and move together even if they're all angry over Elena's major issue.
Elena has spent a long time feeling protected in the Sunvale, California, nursing home run by Henderson Group; if anything or someone can drive her to want to leave again, there's just one chance.
-- Alia.
Elena, on the other hand, is in a hurry to go to the nursing home, and after making many attempts to fit in, she eventually discovers a dimly lit room in a distant area of the rear.
Elena hides behind the window, peering through the glass at the few persons inside. The ladies in the room, dressed in medical gowns, are being coldly injected with medications by the physicians and nurses donning masks and white horns.
They seem to have done this a thousand times, such is the dexterity of their motions. Elena covers her lips to keep from making noise and upsetting the others in the room, but she can't help but feel a little uneasy.
Her Alia...
It's been over a year since anyone's seen her, and the once lively and cheerful Alia is nowhere to be found. She's lost her sweetness, her face devoid of any sweet smile. Her hair has turned yellow, her lips are pale, her face gaunt. She looks lifeless, sitting motionless in a wheelchair, receiving injections from the doctor.
After the doctors and nurses have all left, and after a few moments to ensure no one is around, Elena's legs tremble slightly as she pushes open the door to the ward and enters, standing before Alia.
Elena: "Alia...
Elena's voice trembled, her eyes misty, and her gaze fixed on the gaunt-eyed Alia.
"Alia... It's me... How did you end up like this?" Alia's dark eyes resembled a dry well, deep and lifeless at first glance.
Upon hearing the sound, she mechanically looked up at Elena.
Seeing Alia in such a state, Elena couldn't hold back her tears any longer, which began to fall drop by drop. Her brother had told her that Alia was sent abroad, and as long as she stayed at home obediently, they might have a chance to see her again one day.
If Elena hadn't overheard her brother Ethan and Olivia talking a few days ago, she still wouldn't have known that her Alia, as early as a year ago, was abandoned by the Darian clan, sent to the Morgan Group to make amends, and was shut into a sanatorium with a discharge rate of only 1% under the guise of mental illness.
A sudden smile appeared on Alia's expressionless face, but it was stiff, having not been smiled for a long time.
The sunlight from outside the window hit her, giving her a semblance of life.
Alia: "Elena."
Elena: "Alia --!"
Elena stopped crying for a moment, half-kneeling in front of Alia's wheelchair, clutching the hand of her longtime friend.
"Alia, you're not crazy, are you? I know you're not crazy! How could you be crazy?!"
Alia: "Elena... "
Alia's voice was soft, and her face, unlike its previous haggardness, had the crispness of a young girl. Her face softened, adding some warmth, and she looked at Elena, who was crying for her, with a smile.
"Don't cry, Elena, I'm about to be freed."
Elena suddenly froze, understanding the implication of her friend's words.
She suddenly grabbed Alia's hand.
"How can this be? It won't happen! I'm going to get you out of here! Alia, you have to believe me...!"
Alia: "My silly Elena."
Alia reached out a hand and gently caressed Elena's face, the one who came to see her one last time before she died.
"It's no use, I'm just a pawn, the Darian clan has abandoned me."
Alia's voice narrated the facts flatly, as if it were not speaking of herself. Elena looked at her with tears in her eyes, disbelief evident.
Alia continued, "When I was sent here at the beginning, I knew that this day would come, but I don't want to die like this, I want to live... What they did to me, I want to give them back..."
Elena's eyes welled up with tears as she nodded.
Elena: "Yes... It will... We'll give them all back one day."
Alia's expression remained unchanged, her voice steady, but her eyes began to look distant, as if seeing through time and space.
Alia: "They said I was crazy, so I pretended to be. I thought maybe Kara and Olivia would let their guard down and I could get out. But back then, there was this madman who would sneak into people's rooms in the middle of the night and strangle them in their sleep. The doctors and nurses ignored me, and I almost died a couple of times. So, I killed him."
Elena looked up in shock, unable to comprehend how her gentle and kind friend, who would grieve for days if a stray cat got hit by a car, could say such a thing.
Alia looked down at her tenderly.
Alia: "Am I scary? I made it look like an accident, pushed him into the pool. As he struggled in the water, crying for help, I watched from the shore, watching him sink bit by bit until he stopped breathing."
Elena: "No..."
Elena shook her head desperately, trying to hold back her tears.
Elena: "Alia's not scary... You just, just... "
