CHAPTER FORTY “Boy.” Kaya walked into Brandon’s hospital room at Methodist Hospital that night. “Your mother is out there giving the doctor an earful.” She chuckled, approaching his bed. “She’s telling him what to do.” Brandon flinched, sitting in the bed shirtless with a bandage wrapped around his shoulder. “That’s momma for you.” “How you doing?” Kaya sat beside him. “Much better since the pain medicine.” “I was so scared.” She kissed his hand. “If anything happened to you because of me I’d never forgive myself.” “Seven was sick.” He patted her hand. “You can’t blame yourself for what he did. I should feel guilty. I should’ve known something was wrong with him seeing how we’d been friends so long.” He looked at the round, white clock beside the TV on the wall. “It’s almost midnight
