Between the sound of my heart pounding against my chest as if it would rip through my ribcage, my ragged breathing and the streams of sweat rolling down my neck and back. Off the north, I could hear wolves howling, and in the opposite direction, I could hear the sounds of the security dogs barking in the distance, with the police following them. I knew it, it was only a matter of time before they caught me. With the help of the light streaming between the leaves from the full moon, I looked at my injured leg. The gash wound which had left me unable to run any more still had blood seeping from it. I was a scientist, and I knew the basics of what I needed to do and what would happen if I didn't stop the bleeding. But, what if I just let myself just bleed to death? My life is a lost cause anyway. Accused of killing my own father by my husband, I have been sentenced to death with no way to prove my innocence. Nothing is left for me in this world anyway. By some stupid chance, the car that was transporting us to jail happened to have some high-profile criminals in it who were to face the same fate as me if not for the accident that occurred. Which I suspect to be someone's attempt at escaping. With the car flipped upside down, some thugs were able to get in, kill the police escorting us, and free one of them. Luckily, I was in the back, and it was dark, so I had closed my eyes and laid down in an uncomfortable position, pretending to be unconscious as I heard everything happen. The wounded guards struggled to fight off the guards, but in the end they didn't succeed. Loud grunts, punches, gunshots, glass breaking, feet scrambling away, handcuffs dropping to the ground with a clink, and finally car tires screeching away. It was over in what I guessed was five minutes and that was when I opened my eyes. The thugs gone, the vehicle a mess with shattered glass and blood all over. My hands cuffed, I crawled over to where one of the police was lying and started patting his pockets to check for the keys. I reached for the pocket in his shirt, and that was when I felt it. A heartbeat. This cop was alive. I took out the keys and unlocked my handcuffs. I flinged it away and rubbed my wrists. I felt so much relief having removed that awful metal. I wiped my blood and sweat from my face. The blood was from a small wound when the glass shattered. I looked at the shattered window, ready to leave, but then looked back at the guard. Is it right to just leave him here? I quickly assessed his body. He was hardly breathing, but he had been stabbed with a shard of glass and was bleeding profusely. With the amount of blood he was losing, it didn't seem like he would make it if he continued to lose blood. I looked at the window once again, cops would have been alerted by now and a backup would arrive any minute. I made a move to leave, but a part of me just couldn't leave this man to die like that. What did he even do to deserve this? He was just doing his job. Taking off the shirt of my prison uniform, I used my strength to rip it into two. I quickly made a torniquet right above where he was stabbed and immediately, the blood flow reduced. "This is all I can do. But help will come soon," I said and crawled out of the car. Without wasting another second, I got up and rushed into the forest. Running as fast as I could. I could barely see where I was going, but I knew I had to get away. I couldn't possibly let myself get punished for killing my own father. No. Instead, I will go into hiding and find evidence to find the person who stabbed my father that night as well as prove myself innocent. But just when I had made that determination, I would face yet another cruel fate. And that was how I tripped on a rock and fell, injuring my leg. Right now, all I can do is await my faith. Off into the distance, I heard the wolves howl again and tears streamed down my. I closed my eyes. My heart ached horribly. What did I ever do to deserve this? Once I was a happy woman with a loving father and husband. But in the blink of an hour, all that was lost. Now I am accused of killing my own father and my husband has turned his back on me. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching. Is this it? Is this how I get dragged back to prison to be executed in a few months? My chance at finding the real culprit and proving myself innocent. I guess it's all gone now. The footsteps were getting nearer with each passing second, and I was already coming to peace with the fact that my life was over, but the footsteps stopped. I opened my eyes, but instead of coming face to face with the police. I found myself looking at over six feet tall, hairy and muscular men. Was the night playing tricks on me or are their teeth bared and their eyes glowing? But before I could confirm anything, in the flash of an eye, a handkerchief was pressed over my nose. I smelled the Rohypnol before I could react, and right before I lost consciousness, a sack was put over my head, and my limp body was carried over a shoulder. 'Who are these men?' was the last thought that formed in my head.
