Jesse rushed to my side, stopping by my side and leaning over, she helped me sit up. "How are you feeling Everly, do you still have any pain?" she inquired. "No, thanks to you being my savior once again," I said, appreciating her healing skills. "I reckon your true savior is Alpha Seth, thanks to whom you are still alive right now," Lize smiled, coming over and sitting beside me. Her eyes glowed with interest as if I was the latest piece of gossip, which I probably was. "I couldn't believe it when I heard it," Jesse said, still looking shocked at the concept. "Well, imagine myself and the rest of the pack that witnessed everything," Lize said and Jesse stared in awe. I didn't know anyone could be so shameless, but Lize was really it. "You have to tell me everything!" Jesse said excitedly. "Though I guess everything wouldn't be as interesting as what happened afterward when Alpha Seth ordered us to leave," Lize sighed in disappointment. "You have to tell us everything!" Jesse turned to me, her excitement growing. "I heard he killed Gracie with one finger, told off Luna Paige for mistreating you and swooped you in his arms bridal style. Ah! Wish it could be me with Gamma Ron," Jesse sighed dreamily. "Pfft, I can't believe you would fall for someone so stiff. Proximity is indeed a b*tch," Lize scoffed with a roll of her eyes. "Beta Carson is so much better. He is so handsome and charismatic. Not to mention smart," she sighed dreamily. Jesse and I shared a feeling of disdain. "Can I have some water?" I said, followed by a dry cough. Before Jesse could move, Lize was by my side with a glass of water. I said thanks, took it from her and gulped it in one go. "I thought I was going to die last night," I let out my first thought. Last night might be the first time I saw myself at death's door. "Gracie ended up dying instead." The two looked at me pitifully. "Don't feel bad for her. Luna Paige didn't force her to go against you. She was all too willing," Lize said in an assuring tone. Looking at her eyes, her words did seem genuine. "Gracie kept talking about how humans ruined her life. But until now, I had no idea werewolves or witches existed," I said, hoping for an explanation. Jesse shifted uncomfortably, avoiding eye contact. "For months now, humans have been ambushing packs, k********g werewolves and killing them in the most gruesome way possible. A lot of small packs have been wiped out. It's dangerous out there. Wolflair Pack might be the safest out there. But then, they catch some of us with no where else to live and turn us into servants. Jesse has powers, so she gets an actual job," Lize stated. "What about you two then, aren't you afraid I would turn out to be one of those evil humans?" "I helped you incase you were a spy and would spare me when the time came," Jesse said humorously. "Now enough about the past or anything personal. Come on tell us about last night. I need to get back to work before they start looking for me," Jesse urged, changing the subject. I don't know what the two might want to hide about their past, but I certainly wouldn't want anything about me to come up either. "Seriously, I'm dying here!" Lize added. "Alpha Seth kept saying I was his mate and it's true that he challenged Luna Paige, then he carried me up to this room," I briefed them. "Awww," the two sighed dreamily, ignoring the most important part of the story. "But Luna Paige is already his mate. Doesn't that make me some sort of homewrecker? She also said that this was her Pack. I seriously don't know what to do about all this, but Alpha Seth saved my life last night, so I don't know how to politely reject him," I stated. The two gasped in horror at my last sentence. "R-reject!?" Lize whisper yelled. "Shhh. You can't say that word, lest anyone hears you," Jesse warned. "Why not?" I protested. "Looks like it's time to give her a lecture about mates," Jesse looked at Lize who came forward. After a fifteen minute lecture, I am now versed in the arts of werewolf matehood. Apparently they had a chosen mate and a fated mate. A chosen mate is like what happens in the human world. Meeting someone you fall in love with or being together for other interests. Alpha Seth and Luna Paige happen to be chosen mates. While a fated mate is predestined by the moon queen, a divine being revered by werewolves, and it's always love at first sight. I happen to be Alpha Seth's fated mate. A weird turn of events if you ask me. Unlike marriage bows, a mate bond is sealed by a mark on the neck which apparently the Luna lacks and the only way to severe the bond is by outright rejecting the other person and it's supposed to be physically painful. "A werewolf mated to a human is rare and unfounded though, so I'm not sure how the rest of the Pack will take this after they are done gossiping," Lize added, and Jesse nodded in agreement. "As for the truth behind who originally owned this pack, you would have to ask someone who has been here all along," Jesse told me. I could only nod while taking all that explanation in. Going back to the human world without a good plan or support would mean going straight to prison and awaiting execution. But if I reject Alpha Seth, I would have no one to protect me from Luna Paige. If you ask me, I am in a bit of a dilemma. "What are you going to do now?" Lize asked, intense curiosity in her eyes. My stomach chose that moment to growl, and I was grateful for the distraction. "Sorry, my bad. I will bring your breakfast right away," Lize said and left the room. "I say you go along with Alpha Seth. He doesn't sound like a bad person," Jesse advised. "I..." I was about to answer when the door opened. The scent of musk, pine and clean sweat filled the room, and even before he came in, I already knew it was him, and I found myself instinctively running my fingers through my hair.
