My eyes moved to the body of the wolf which laid a good distance from us. And then to the handsome man standing in front of me.
D-did he... did he just snap it's neck with one arm. He had just saved my life. But is it right to feel at ease with him? Or am I facing someone more dangerous?
Yet somehow, I felt my body relax, my heart beat at a more steady pace and my breathing became even.
The man stared at me, just as I found myself unable to take my gaze away from his.
Something about him made me want to move closer to him and not only thank him, but...
The man came towards me and went down to my level. His intense gaze and proximity overwhelmed my senses as my breath hitched, and my heart picked up its pace, but not in a bad way.
"You look like a mess," he said in a soft, husky voice, suddenly remembering the state I was in. I felt embarrassed and tried to smile awkwardly, only to wince in pain.
"Careful there," the man let out a deep chuckle from his throat.
"What the f**k is going on here!" Luna Paige's voice sounded like thunder and my heart stopped.
I had completely forgotten. The situation I was in and the fact that we had an entire audience. What was it about this man that made me so attracted to him as such.
Luna Paige appeared in front of us, face red as she fumed in anger.
Instinctively, my body shifted towards the stranger whose name I didn't even know.
"I got you," he winked at me, his voice assured me.
He stood up, facing the angry Luna.
"What a way to welcome me when I have been gone for over two months," he said calmly, not caring about her anger.
Whoever this man was, he didn't seem like he would bow to her like the rest of the Pack, and he didn't fawn over her like Beta Carson did, which made me feel confident.
As long as he was by my side, I had nothing to fear.
"Don't f*****g change the topic Seth!" she growled.
Seth. So that is my savior's name.
"How dare you do this in front of me?! In front of everyone here? How dare you insult me like this?" she shouted, a tint of sadness in her voice.
But of course, I wasn't about to feel horrible for this human.
"And what did I do?" he asked in a cool tone, which only seemed to anger the Luna further.
"She is nothing but a filthy human. And yet," Luna Paige swallowed hard. "Y-you just called her mate."
"I did," Seth replied nonchalantly.
Mate? They don't mean...
"And what do you intend to do with her? I am your mate, remember?"
"Chosen mate," he corrected her.
"f**k you Seth. If not for me, there is no way you would be an alpha of the Pack," Luna Paige seethed.
"I would have earned this pack through a duel and, as you know, no one here is stronger than me. Your father just chose the easy way out," Seth shrugged. His nonchalant attitude seemed to aggravate her further.
"You will never own this pack without me Seth, because in their hearts, I am their leader," Luna Paige laughed bitterly.
"We will see about that," he taunted before sweeping the crowd with one gaze.
"Everyone, I order you to return to your places," Seth said in a cool, yet commanding tone, and like sheep, they all got up and toed the line until there was no one left.
Luna Paige's face remained unfazed, and yet, she clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palm until blood started to drop.
Alpha Seth, on the other hand, bent to my level and in one swoop, carried me in his arms.
"I—I can walk," I said flustered.
"You are injured. And as my mate, I need to provide you with all the help you need," Seth smiled softly at me before facing ahead and walking towards the Pack house.
He called me his mate once again. But Luna Paige clearly said she is his mate. As much as I hate her and would love to see her get what she deserves, is this the right thing to do?
