"I'm telling you, it's not good to hole yourself up here alone. You should step out of this room for once," Lize insisted.
I sat on the couch, my knees to my chest as I quietly bit on my nails.
"You will soon run out on nails to bite on at this rate," Lize sighed, dejected.
I stared at the window, sun rays streaking in, the wind softly lulling its way in and out as if mocking my state. And outside, I could hear chattering, passing footsteps, the occasional chirp from a bird landing on my windowsill and flying off in a jiffy, the rustling from the leaves.
Having locked myself in this room for seven days in a row, it was starting to make me feel like crazy. I longed to go outside and wished I could blend in so easily. But fear kept me in check, and the room was starting to feel like prison.
My eyes moved from the windows to the computer at the desk, sitting ever so idly.
If only I could use it, I wouldn't feel like I was stuck in time and space.
Back then, when Gracie and I worked in the kitchen, we worked from morning till evening, so I could forget about my situation and the day would pass by unnoticed.
Lize followed my gaze, then shook her head, her lips turned downward in dismay.
"I don't understand why you humans are so obsessed with this technology and stuff, relying on them for entertainment. Sadly, we don't care enough about them to use them all the time."
Ignoring her, I stood up and went over to the desktop, pulling a chair and sitting down in front of it. I turned it on, only to be faced with the same damn page with the same damn instruction.
ENTER PASSWORD.
I groaned in distress. I have tried every simple password I could think of, yet none worked.
"You could just ask him, you know?" Lize said matter-of-factly. "Oh wait, you can't, because you have been avoiding him," she rolled her eyes at me. "I can't believe you would be so weird about this. Everyone is happy to be blessed with a mate. Yours is an alpha, and you keep playing hard to get."
And this? It is one more reason why I have been going crazy. Being stuck in one place is one thing, but Lize has a way of making you want to pull all of your hair out.
That made me ponder over my situation. It was either staying here forever or taking a risk and going out.
I turned to Lize.
"Hey Lize, what does the Luna usually do at this time?"
"In her room drinking wine as usual I guess. Why do you ask?" Lize replied nonchalantly.
To which I countered with a rhetorical question.
"What do you think?" It took only a second and her eyes lit up in excitement.
Ignoring that, I asked the second most important question. "And the Beta?"
"Beta Carson?" the excitement in her eyes was replaced by a keen curiosity.
"Yeah, wouldn't want to come across him..."
"Why not?" Lize said defensively. I had never seen her on her toes like this. "Beta Carson is kind and outgoing."
"And you know that because?" my eyebrows raised questioningly.
"Remember the fight and how only two people bet on you?"
My shoulders sagged upon a flashback of that day.
"I clearly recall Beta Carson excitedly telling me about how he bet on me," I recalled.
"See, he even supported you at the time!" her voice went up a pitch.
I stared at her, utterly amazed at her delusion.
"I guess he did gain on my misery," I stated.
"I did too," she said, and my mouth dropped open, then closed, vaguely recalling how Gamma Ron mentioned that another person bet on me.
Even a 360 degree roll of my eyes was not enough to convey how I felt.
"How surprising," I muttered.
"That's beside the point," Lize continued with her explanation. "He split the money equally between us. That means he is also fair."
"I have been living with a rich girl without knowing," I joked. I had noticed that for the past few days, Lize had been wearing new clothes. Now it makes sense where it all came from. "How kind of him to be so...""
Lize shrugged, fiddling with her hands behind her back. Is she actually being shy? Who knew the mean girl with the resting b***h face had this side to her?
"Have you tried confessing to him?" I blurted out.
Lize looked at me sternly, her lips pressed, and her cheeks puffed out.
I couldn't help the laughter that overcame me.
"You suddenly have the mouth to talk, hub?" Lize was flushed from anger and embarrassment as she came over, and grabbing me by the arm, she pulled and started dragging me away.
"What?! It's better to talk it out. I'm sure he will be so happy to hear all about how you like him," I continued to laugh at her while she kept dragging me away.
"Now you have the courage to talk, huh? Well, good luck out there," she said, and slammed the door inches away from my face, followed by the sound of a 'clink'.
Only then did I stop laughing and realize what was going on.
A shiver went through my entire body as I snapped out of it.
"Lize?" I called out her name. But, of course, she didn't respond.
Did she just throw me out?
"Oh s**t!" I cursed. I should have known better than to tease her like that.
Just as I raised my hand to knock on the door, my hand was left suspended midway, stopped by his voice.
"Hey, I was just coming to see you," he let out.
I slowly turned on my feet and came face to face with him. Unexpectedly, he lips were stretched into a smile as his eyes slowly raked over me from head to toe, and I had never felt so exposed.
