Chapter 14

"WHO ARE YOU???!!!" A furious voice greeted me when I answered the landline while cleaning the house. I was excited to pick up the call, thinking it was Jordan, but it turned out to be a woman. She sounded like she had an attitude, immediately asking who I was. Who was this? I felt like staying silent and just hanging up, but she might be someone they knew, with something important to say to the siblings. "Are you mute now? Who are you?!" "Ahhhh... I'm the new housemaid here," I answered hesitantly. "Housemaid? There's already a replacement for Calla?" she asked in confusion. I was slightly surprised because she knew my mother, which meant she also knew the siblings. "Who are you?" I asked in return. "You don't know me?" she said, her voice rising again. I was starting to get annoyed at her attitude. She seemed like an arrogant woman who would look down on others if we were face-to-face. "Would I be asking who you are if I knew you?" I calmly replied, and she suddenly cursed loudly. "Hey! You're just a maid there! How dare you talk back like that?! My children didn’t even tell me they had a stupid and rude maid. You just wait and see!" After saying that, she hung up. I stared at the phone before slowly placing it back on its rack. She mentioned her children, meaning… was she the siblings’ mother? Oh no! If that was their mother, then I'm in trouble! I might get fired! I remembered my own mother telling me that this woman had a bad attitude but often visited here. What if she suddenly storms in and throws me out? Why did I have to answer her that way? I was just asking who she was, but she was so rude! It's not my fault that I didn't recognize her! That’s why I asked! Ugh! I was about to call Jordan but hesitated and decided to call my Mama instead. It took several rings before she answered her phone. "Oh, Poppy? Why are you calling? Don't tell me you’ve already broken something?" Mama greeted me, making me frown. "Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence, Mama! No, I didn’t!" I said. "Ma, I think the siblings' mother just called. I didn’t know it was her, and she was so rude, so I might have answered her back. What should I do, Mama? What if she kicks me out?" I asked anxiously. "Wait, the quadruplets’ mother? Didn’t I tell you to avoid her? She has a terrible attitude, and now you even talked back. Don’t worry, though. You’re not working for her; you’re working for the siblings. She can’t fire you. She’s tried to kick me out several times, but she only stopped when Jordan confronted her. So, you’ll be fine. Just endure it when she’s around, and if she ever asks you to do something unreasonable, tell it to them. They hired you, and they pay your salary, so she has no right to fire you." "Really? That’s a relief… But is she really that scary, Mama?" "My dear, don't be afraid of her or any rich person who looks down on you. We may be poor, but never let anyone step on our dignity. That’s all we have left. I know you’re strong and a fighter, Poppy, so I trust you." My heart softened at my mother's words, and I thanked her. "Whatever their mother says, just ignore it. Your only concern is the siblings." "Yes, Mama, thank you again. I was just scared that I made a huge mistake. I really didn’t know who she was, so I asked her." "Just forget about it and focus on doing your job well." I nodded even though she couldn’t see me. We talked a little more, and I asked about my father. She said he was doing fine. A few minutes later, I ended the call and continued my work. I decided not to dwell on the call earlier—whether it was their mother or just a familiar woman, I wouldn’t get involved. Otherwise, I’d only stress myself out. She never called back anyway, and no angry mother showed up at the house, even though I half-expected it all day. "Darling, I’m home!" I heard Jordan’s voice while I was in the kitchen cooking. I turned around and saw him approaching. I let out a small scream when he lifted me and kissed my cheek. "I missed you, my Poppy." I laughed and cupped his face. "I missed you too, but can you put me down?" He smiled and did as I asked. "Why are you home so early? I’m still cooking." "You didn’t have to cook. We’re going out," he said, holding my hand. "Did you forget we have a date?" "Of course not! I’m cooking so your siblings will have something to eat when they get home from work. I’m sure they’ll be hungry. Mama said you all prefer home-cooked meals." He smiled sweetly and kissed me again. "We’re really lucky to have you. The three are still at the office. They seem so busy, but I made sure to come home early and finish all my work. I’m excited about our plans tonight. But I can help you out." I smiled. "No need. Just go take a shower. You kind of smell bad." I teased, and he raised an eyebrow at me. "Oh, really?" I squealed when he lifted me again and placed me on the kitchen counter. I almost moaned when he nuzzled my neck and gave it small kisses. "You smell like food again, darling. I bet you’d taste delicious." He licked my skin, and his hands slid up my thighs, caressing my inner thighs. My body immediately reacted to his touch. One of his hands moved to my waist while the other stayed on my thigh, creeping toward my aching center. "Is this okay?" he asked in a husky voice when our lips parted. I just smiled at him and nodded. Our lips met again, and his hand inched closer between my legs. I spread them slightly, and he positioned himself between them. I gasped when his fingers brushed against me, and he let out a groan. Before he could touch me further, we suddenly heard car engines outside. We froze, and he cursed in frustration. His siblings had arrived, interrupting us just when things were getting exciting. He set me down from the counter and gave me a quick kiss. He traced his finger over my lips, which were probably swollen. I licked his finger, making his mouth fall open slightly. It was amusing to see his half-lidded, dazed eyes. He took deep breaths and loosened his tie. I reached up to fix his hair, which I had messed up during our heated moment. "We will continue this later, darling," he whispered, making me shake my head. "Only if I let you, Sir," I teased. He narrowed his eyes at me and growled. I stuck my tongue out at him before turning back to my cooking. "This is so annoying! Why are they already here? I came home early just to have you all to myself," he complained irritably. "You’ll have me to yourself later anyway. Now, go shower and change. I’m almost done here." He nodded and hugged me from behind. "You know, you look like a sweet wife right now," he said gently, making me freeze. "See you later, Poppy." He let go of me and went upstairs. I clutched my chest, feeling my heart pound, and smiled, feeling giddy. "Wow! That smells delicious! I could smell it from outside!" Jozer said as he entered. I turned off the high-tech stove and placed the food on the dining table, along with the other dishes I had prepared. "Welcome back! I cooked for you all, so don’t order takeout. Oh, I also made a blueberry pie; it’s in the fridge," I said, removing my apron and greeting the two other siblings who had just entered. "Did I hear that right? Blueberry pie?" Janus asked, and I nodded. "You don’t like pie? Or are you allergic to blueberries? It would be a shame if you couldn’t eat it, so I made it into a pie." "No, we’re not allergic to any food," Jagger said. "But we do love desserts. Thanks for the pie, babe." He approached me and kissed my cheek, followed by Jozer and then Janus. "You should’ve told me you loved desserts. I’ll bake cookies next time," I said. They eagerly thanked me. After I changed, Jordan was already waiting with a wide smile. The others were busy devouring the pie. "Hey! Save some for me!" Jordan complained. "Don’t worry, I’ll make more for you," I reassured him. He held my hand, and we said goodbye to his brothers before stepping out.
