I was rudely awakened by my alarm, at the ungodly hour of 9 am. I groaned and got out of bed before heading to the bathroom and brushing my teeth and peeing. I combed my hair and threw it into a sloppy bun before heading to my closet and slipping on a plum halter- crop top. I skipped a bra and pulled on a pair of black skinny jeans. I applied dark plum lip matte and a bit of eyeliner and mascara before throwing on my favorite leather jacket. I pulled on a pair of black no-shows and my plum vans before grabbing my suitcase and walking to the door. I slipped my phone into my back pocket before putting Henry in his carrier and taking him with me, as per usual he yowled until we got to the car and headed in the opposite direction of the vet.
I pulled into the small airstrip and left my car next to Paxton's dark blue Aston Martin. I wheeled my luggage and cat to the plane and took the small bag and carrier off the main suitcase. Henry and I got on the private jet and took our seats near the window.
"Did you really bring the cat?" I heard my dad ask as he and mom came out of the bathroom looking a bit unkempt.
"Mom brought a dog." I said rolling my eyes and looking out the window. I loved my parents, but they didn't understand what it was like to not have a mate. They grew up best friends and have been together always since they were 18, Henry was my only companion in the city and in my home.
"Riley." I heard my mother warn.
"I'm just stating the facts." I said examining my nails.
"Good Morning!" Talia beamed as she got on the plane, she sat across from Henry and I and began speaking with my cat. Hadley showed up a few minutes later with both Indigo and Paxton behind her.
"Pax, why was your car here when you weren't?" I asked as he sat across the isle from me.
"Dad wanted to drive it, and I really didn't want to be on the plane with just him and mom." He said with a shudder.
"Say no more brother." I sighed. Another 10 minutes went by before Esarie and her mate Julian along with her son Jordan got on board. Blake and his pregnant mate Kira and their daughter Stevie followed. I sighed as Stevie sat with Hadley and Jordan sat on Talia's lap. It was obvious that Hadley and Talia were the favorites seeing as they were the most outgoing and kind siblings.
Of all my siblings, I was the most temperamental and caused the most trouble. I think it had to do with my power. Like the wind Hadley was a free spirit bit could be a force when needed. Paxton was always a bit cold and distanced himself from the everyone. Talia was easy going and sweet as pie, Indigo was indecisive and headstrong. I looked down at my arm and admired the small green and blue gecko tattooed across my wrist.
"Riley, Henry says you should give him wet and dry food." Talia said as everyone buckled up in their own seats.
"Is that so?" I said condescendingly, she nodded and looked down shyly. "I'll think about it." She lit up and I heard Henry begin purring in his crate. "So who all is going to be at the gathering?"
"Well you have three Alpha's from Japan, including Lenny, 2 from Thailand, 4 from South America, 5 from the U.S, 7 from Russia, 3 from the UK and 9 from Europe." My dad said from his seat.
"Don't forget about the Vampire clans along with the Ghost Paw Brotherhood." My mom stated.
Unlike what some fiction readers want you to believe, vampires and werewolves get along. Not often do we breed seeing as the union of a wolf and vampire can create a grotesque beast that is often still born or ends up dying after their first shift. The hybrid wolves are usually deformed or shift incorrectly leaving the person inside to bleed out, from the tales it sounds rather disgusting. Even though our species don't mate we fight and live together in peace. The Ghost Paw Brotherhood is a faction of the strongest warriors of every race in our dimension. Vampires, werewolves, witches and warlocks and even the rare shifter. Shifters differ from wolves seeing as they can turn into any animal that they wish to, but they don't have that extra voice to guide them like we do with our wolves.
"I can't wait to meet one of the warriors from the brotherhood." Indigo swooned while fanning her face and blushing.
"Or your Alpha mate." My mom said with a dreamy smile. I rolled my eyes as my mom leaned up against my dad, he kissed her temple and looked down at her like she was the only thing that mattered in that moment. I looked out the window as I felt my heart break a little at the sight, all I wanted was my mate. My mom and dad told us stories of mates and how wonderful they were all our life. I hoped I would meet my mate the day I turned 18 and we would be mated and have pups by now, sadly it wasn't meant to be.
At twenty I looked at my parents and mated siblings with jealousy, I wanted that bond, the one that makes your heart soar and your soul full. I needed the one person who could make me smile when all I wanted to do was cry, my life partner, my other half. My wolf Hazard was like me, she hated being without her mate, she had been pushing me to travel for years in search of whoever my mate is. I can only hope that I'll meet them soon, I wont wait forever no matter what my parents would say.
The flight was exhausting, my parents acted like horny teens which wasn't new. Hadley and Indigo ranted about their expectations for their mates, Talia kept relaying instructions in his care from Prince Henry himself.
Paxton sat looking out the window not really being bothered by anyone. I began getting bored so I played with my powers. I used static electricity to make little blue sparks and move them around my hands and wrists. Blake's daughter Stevie laughed as I made little fireworks through out the cabin.
"Riley." My mom said sternly scolding me like a child.
"I'm not hurting anyone or affecting anything mom. It's static." I said as I let most of the sparks die out, leaving only one in the palm of my right hand. "You do realize I'm not some stupid kid right?" I asked her while snuffing out the last spark. She sighed and ran her hand over her face while my dad deadpanned at me.
"Yes Riley I know..."
"Then maybe you should stop treating me like one." I turned away from everyone and looked out the window at the blue sky as we flew through the air.
"Where are we going daddy?" Stevie asked Blake.
"We are going to Lake Baikal Russia." Blake said. I smiled as I day dreamed about meeting the perfect Russian wolf who would sweep me off my feet. We finally landed in Russia and got off of the plane, Henry yowled and Talia told me he wasn't feeling well. I gave him some catnip once we got out of the airport and he calmed down. We were driven to a hotel in Severobaykaisk, a small city near Lake Baikal.
I had to share a room with Indigo and Hadley, which I hated. I mentally kicked myself for not taking Russian as a language so I could let Hazard out. I spent most of the day recovering from jet lag before I took a cold shower and pulled some appropriate clothes on. I slipped on a tight, blue sleeveless, turtle neck crop top and black skinny jeans before adding a studded belt and black leather biker boots. I pulled my hair into a french braid before heading to the conference room and meeting with the few other people who had already arrived.
"Riley!" I smiled and hugged my uncle Lenny when he walked in. "You have gotten so big baby girl! How are you?"
"I'm good Uncle Lenny, how are you it's been forever." He smiled as we got food and continued to talk, most of my family milled in and I walked away to find a quieter place to stand.
"I thought distant was my thing." Paxton said with a smile as he joined me.
"Buy yourself a personality Pax, we all know I was distant before anyone else." He chuckled and nodded his head while taking a huge sip of whatever he was drinking.
"True, so how is Hazard? Glacier is going nuts, the rest of the gang say their wolves are too." I shrugged as Hazard laid calmly in my mind.
"Her normal self, is more calm than usual." I said as I looked out the window. A strong breeze filled the room and I whipped my head toward my sister who was having trouble with her powers, one by one my siblings began losing control. Hazard and I seemed to be the only ones keeping our heads and staying in control.
Huge warriors walked into the room, my eyes were drawn to the largest, he had almond colored skin and amber colored eyes. His sharp jaw was covered with a beard, his dark hair was shaved at the sides and longer at the top, his dark black locks were combed back making him look professional.
He was wearing a black leather jacket and ripped blue jeans while his feet were dressed in combat boots. I felt my throat become dry as I looked upon the beast of a man. His eyes locked on mine before they scanned me, he rolled them, pissing both Hazard and I off. I felt the static in the room thicken and peoples hair started to rise. Outside thunder boomed as lightning made a guest appearance.
I have no idea why I was so pissed, the man didn't smell like my mate. I took a few deep breaths and refocused on something else while my sibling struggled for their own control. I was surprised at how easily I regained my composure before walked to the table and taking a seat. I remained professional as my parents led my struggling siblings from the room. I sat in for them along with Esarie and Blake who kept their eyes on me.
"Alpha Thomas Maverick and Luna Maya have had to be excused, who is speaking in their place?" An elder wolf asked.
"I will be." I said standing tall and proud. "I am Riley Maverick, third born." The elder nodded before I sat back down.
"Alright then, report." And so I did, I heard my parents going over everything on the plane even though I pretended not to.
"Lastly, our pack funds are higher than ever seeing as farm stand has gone global. We are producing more revenue than any other pack in the U.S." I said finishing up.
"Thank you Miss Maverick."
"You are the third born?" Came a deep British voice, I turned to the Adonis who had caught my attention earlier and simply nodded. "So why are you speaking and not one of your elder siblings?" He asked with a sneer.
"The answer is simple...." I said raising a brow.
"Alpha Parker."
"Alpha Parker." I repeated. "I may be third born, but I still carry the blood of my lycan father and Alpha mother, if you have a problem with me speaking you can take it and shove it up your ass." He looked shocked by my insult as did everyone else. He snarled and stood up, I looked at him and smiled kindly before turning my back to him. "I believe we have other matters to discuss, please stop causing a scene Alpha Parker."
