Summer
The air within the cafeteria was filled with an electric buzz. There was conversations going on at every table. The different voices and sounds could be too much for us wolves and some of the other creatures that attend Free Point academy. FPA is a highschool for magical and mythical creatures werewolves, witches, vampires, shifters, and even some rarer creatures. To the human world we just look like a private school ran by a church but in truth we aren't. We are actually a school to teach the teenage creatures living within the Midland pack lands the skills to live as adults and to help train us all in our different abilities. Freshman are talking all about the different stuff that happened during their first year. Sophomores are going on about how they pulled the best pranks and couldn't wait for party's. Juniors are talking about getting new cars and how they did on finals. But Senior's like Lilly and myself were only concerned about one thing, the binding ceremony. It's held June 10th every year and anyone who will be 18 on or before can attend in hopes of meeting their mate. Everyone of us will perform the the binding ceremony and our mate connection will finally be felt. I'll actually be 19. My birthday was back in December but Lilly, my sister and best friend, is just over a year younger than me and I didn't want to go without her last year. From the day my Dads brought Lilly home I've done everything with her and the binding ceremony won't be any different.
"Hey I'm over here by the main window Clo!" Lilly said through our mind link.
I waved and headed towards her and her group of friends. They aren't my friends really just Lilly's. My sister is one of the most popular girls in school she has the looks and talent. Lilly is taller than almost all the girls in our school with her hazel yellow eyes and her beautiful dark chocolate skin and beautiful curls. She puts them all to shame. The most beautiful about her is her kindness and love though.
"How was gym?" Lilly asked as I sat down.
"s**t like always. I'll be so glad when all this is over" I said.
"Oh I'm sure it wasn't that bad"
"He put me up against Brock again" I sighed. Gym for us isn't dodge ball or running laps it's hand to hand combat and intense running. Now Brock isn't a giant but I'm tiny in comparison. I'm actually the smallest wolf in our class.
"I'm sure you gave him hell and then some." she said with a laugh.
"I wish I could just shift and beat his ass like he deserves" I growled. As I stared daggers into Brock's back from across the room. Brock is the son of our alpha and is on track to become alpha once the titles are officially handed down.
"You know you can't Clo" Lilly hissed.
"Yeah I know but you also know I could give him exactly what he has coming if I could." I told her. We aren't allowed to shift during school and we don't start officially training in wolf form until after graduation.
"Here eat"
Lilly slid a box of pizza closer to me. I grabbed a piece and imagined how fun it would be to shift to my wolf and rip the jerk a new one. Today he had put me in a headlock and refused to let go until I started to pass out. He wasn't born to be alpha or even supposed to be it but something happened and his big brother passed it to him.
The bell rang.
"Come on Lilly let's go to history." I said.
We found our seats at the back of the class and settled in. Our history teacher is a male witch. Witches are the best at knowing the truth of the past and they tend to spare no details. Our teacher is annoying though today is the last day but he is still giving a lecture about the final uniting of the World packs. Hundreds and hundreds of years ago their was hundreds of pack all over the world but as the modern world developed and humans grew in numbers packs became smaller and more at risk. To solve this problem packs began to join other packs. In most countries it happened smoothly without issue but here in America things weren't so easy. Packs fought a lot. Eventually deals were met and there is now 4 main american packs. The western pack, the eastern pack, the northern pack and us the Midland pack. The teacher was going on and on about the last pack to unify and the end of the Artic ice pack. His lecture was interrupted by the door banging open and Brock walking in. Typical.
"You are late Mister Southerland, again!"
"Sorry." he mumbled as he walked towards his seat in front of Lilly. As he started to set down Lilly pushed his chair closer to his desk pinning him between the two. Lilly quietly growled at him for being late.
Brock mumbled something I couldn't make out and pushed his seat back enough to set down.
"So what the hell is he trying to teach us now?" asked Brock after a few minutes had passed.
"Something about the Artic ice pack." Lilly whispered.
"They were too weak and died off. What more is there to know" He chuckled.
"They weren't weak. The united packs pushed them further north into dangerous rough terrain and cut them off from vital hunting grounds until their numbers dropped so low that they all died off." I said to Brock.
"Really?"
"Yeah the last one died off like 15 years ago or something." Lilly added.
Lilly and Brock continued to chat while I zoned out. I was ready for class to end so I could shift and go for a run. A few minutes later the bell rang and I grabbed Lilly and pulled her to the door.
"Come on let's go" I said as we ran towards the parking lot.
I dragged Lilly through the halls and towards the back parking lot. No one parks in the back lot because of how messed up it is. There's pot holes, large cracks and giant chunks missing from it, but it's the safest place for me to shift without having to wear my enchanted necklace. I'm not supposed to shift without it cause it masks what kind of wolf I really am. If someone besides my sister or dads see my wolf I will be in danger but I have been going for these runs for years. Everyone thinks my wolf is brown with gray patches and that I'm blind in wolf form but I'm only blind when wearing my enchanted necklace. The perks of being an abandoned orphan is no knows what you are so no one questions the lies. Plus I'm small so it's believable that something would be wrong with me.
I let go of Lilly's hand and ran to the edge of the woods. I dropped my backpack and pulled my shoes off. I was unbuttoning my pants when Lilly groaned.
"Clo do you really have to do it today?"
"I won't get caught. You know how good I am." I said with a grin.
"I know but come on it's the last day of our senior year."
"Exactly one last time before everything changes."
"Fine" she groaned.
And with that I was stripping the rest of my clothes off. As I dropped my bra onto the rest of my clothes I quickly shifted. My bones changed my skin turned to pure white fur and my tail started to wag. I could smell everything. From the dampness of the forest floor to the smell of spilled oil in the parking lot. I could see the smallest trees in all detail over a mile away and I could hear Lilly's blood pumping through her body. I looked back at her and gave her the best impression of a smile a wolf can give. Lilly smiled in return and shook her head a little bit before bending down and shoving my clothes in my backpack. I quickly rolled in the grass a little and then headed into the woods.
"Be careful!!" Lilly yelled after me.
I stopped turned a little and let out a low bark in agreement. I love running home even if it's a little risky. We have to shift regularly or our wolf will go crazy, become dangerous and be impossible to control. For me I have to be careful where and when I shift so I'm limited on options and I have to be extra careful about my necklace being on if I want to be part of the packs full moon shift. I had mindlessly ran the five miles home. just as I jumped over our privacy fence I heard Lilly pulling up. She must have speed home. Just as I heard her door open I heard my dads yell horary and the soft sound of what must be glitter hitting different surfaces. There was a pause of silence followed by my Papa sighing. I smiled to myself and sat down on the back porch next to the double glass doors. My tail thumping slightly. We didn't used to have a back porch or double doors but my Dads had them added after the first time I shifted. The was a scary night. Most werewolves shift on the first full moon after their 13 birthday it was the first one after my 12th that I shifted. I had woken up in the middle of the night feeling weird just as I walked passed the large bay window heading to the kitchen I shifted letting out a loud howl. My Dads were there in seconds. I was laying on my side scared to move a single paw. Dada kept saying oh no over and over. Papa was just looking at me with shock on his face. Neither of them were moving though both unsure of what to do. It was Lilly who brought them out of it. She came walking up to us rubbing sleep from her eyes. She took one look at me and ran right up to me.
"Clo! Clo! You've shifted!" she squealed while rubbing my fur. I finally moved after that and sat up as I did I felt the burning in my head and knew I had to get under the full moon. If a werewolf doesn't go into direct moon light after their first shift they aren't able to ever shift back to human and they go insane and die. I let out a low whine and Dada quickly understood. He ran to the back door and opened it but I couldn't fit through it. Everyone started panicking Lilly was crying, Dada was begging Papa to do something and I was pacing in circles. Out of nowhere Papa shifted and jumped through the bay window sending glass everywhere. Everyone went silent for a moment and then I felt my first mind link 'Clover my love, you have to jump through the window like I did. Do it now love.' Without a second thought I leapt through the window. I fell asleep in the grass near the window that night. Shortly before dawn I shifted back to human and my dads brought me inside. Just as they tucked me into bed I woke up long enough to hear the truth on why they panicked.
"Kevin my dear what are we going to do?" my Papa said.
"We are going to lie in order to save our daughter." said Dada
"She an artic wolf, if anyone finds out it will be bad. They will take her away."
"Dan they will do worse then take her away." said Dada.
From that day on my wolf became a secret. My Dads had the bay window replaced with large double glass doors, add a large screened in back porch and a high privacy fence. They told everyone that it was in preparation for us shifting cause I was painfully shy and was worried about someone seeing me naked when I finally shift. They got me the necklace from a witch down south and told everyone that my wolf was blind. The logical explanation was that I was a human werewolf hybrid with an weak wolf. It did get me bullied some but as long as it kept me alive and with my family I was okay with it. I heard my Dada coming up to the back door and gave him my wolf smile.
"Clo get in this house and get your butt dressed now." my Dada said with a smile. I quickly got inside and shifted back as I headed towards my room to get dressed. I know I worry him but I can take care of myself and I can't be the weak wolf forever not with the alpha power I carry.
