Ophelia Jones has been a defected soul as long as she can remember. She wasn't a werewolf like her dad, a witch like her mom, a mermaid like her friend Shark, a pixie, or a vampire, she wasn't even a hybrid.

So when she finds out she's supposed to save the world, and her parents weren't who they say they were, what is there to do but fall under the pressure? She must choose her friends wisely, her enemies carefully, and pray to the Goddesses she survives.

Ophelia
Name: Jillian Pierce Level: 88 Species: Witch Ability: Time Manipulation     Name: Titus Jones Level: 92 Species: Werewolf Ability: Masking     Those are my parents. Well, they were my parents, until they died. They were both elites, my mom, a high tier from Jiola, from a coven called Sagittarius, one of the twelve constellation tribes, one tribe for each zodiac. Each tribe holds one of the twelve constellation instruments, in the Sagittarius tribe’s case, it’s the bow and arrows. Legend states that each instrument can summon that constellation from the sky, if pointed in the right position of where the constellation lays in the sky at night. For example, to summon Sagittarius, you would shoot an arrow in the southern celestial hemisphere, the arrow would go to the point of Sagittarius’ stars, and he would be summoned. But, it hasn’t been done in years, as the true constellation witch hasn’t been found yet.     My dad was a high tier wolf from Azula, from a wolf pack called Gold Moon. It’s one of the biggest packs on Earth, and the strongest of Azula. He was the Alpha, or the leader of the pack after he took over for his father. Each wolf of the Gold Moon pack had golden eyes, representing their pack. If a wolf from the pack goes rogue, it’s eyes turn red, and the rest of the pack lose connections to that wolf. My dad found mom when he turned eighteen at a drone race in Jiola. They were mates, goddess given soulmates. Mates, also known as beloveds by vampires, and majestics by witches, pixies, and mermaids, are people fated to be together by the moon goddess Selene, the sun goddess Helen, and the spirit Goddess Destiny.      I was born high in the hierarchy, and I was respected. But since my parents died, and people started figuring out that my ability and species are unknown, I’ve been falling. I’ve been falling all the way down to the defects.     Defects are a person without an ability, and no species. They make up the bottom of the hierarchy. And the higher tiers walk all over them.      Name: Ophelia Jones Level: ??? Species: ??? Ability: ???     I remember one day, when I was about five, Elder Piar of the Royal council called my parents during the night, when I was supposed to be asleep. My parents had him on speaker so they could both respectfully listen without any interruptions. I listened at the top of the staircase.     “Titus Jones and Jillian Pierce, where are your daughters statistics? They were due on her fifth birthday. Which was approximately one month ago.” He said, with a voice that made me flinch.      “Yes Elder Piar, but she hasn’t shown any signs of an active ability, and she isn’t showing any magical capabilities.” My dad said, more tense than I had ever seen him in my life.     “Have you considered the possibility of defectery being involved in your daughter's case? It is highly unlikely, but there is a slight possibility, it has happened before, it could very well happen again.”     “Yes Elder Piar, we have thought of defection, but she isn’t behaving like a mere human, she’s behaving as more of a werewolf without shapeshifting abilities. She has heightened senses of hearing and smell. Maybe all the magic inside of her is being suppressed somehow.” My mom said, her curiosity almost showing more than her concern, almost but not quite.     “That could be somehow possible, but we must know for certain. You two shall bring her to the Council house laboratory tomorrow after you’ve finished your daily responsibilities, and we will run tests. I’ll be taking my leave now, goodbye Titus and Jillian, have a pleasant night.”     “Good night Elder Piar.” My parents said. Name: Allyn Pier Level: 96 Species: Vampire Ability: Energy Beam     I remember everything after that like my mind was videoing everything, up until the box. The box that holds crucial information from the day I went to the laboratory. I can’t remember anything after walking through the council house doors. It was Elder Fern, an elite pixie with the ability of mind control. Name: Nala Fern Level: 95 Species: Pixie Ability: Mind Control     Ever since my parents died three years ago, I’ve walked to the council house and asked Elder Ferns to let me have my memories back. But, I always get the same response, ‘When you’re older.’      But today is my seventeenth birthday, and I’m going to ask again.  “Hey Raphael,” I say nodding to Raphael Martinez, the council house receptionist. He nods back, opening the doors for me. Name: Raphael Martinez Level: 90 Species: Warlock Ability: Wall   I walk down the hall, heading to Elder Ferns office, the closer I get to her office, the heavier the air around me is. And the more uneasy I feel. I take deep breaths, trying to breath through the heavy atmosphere. While I attempted to breathe, I caught a scent that made me feel sick and hungry at the same time. It made the back of my throat burn, like I haven’t drank anything in a month.     I grabbed my throat for a second, but it was no use. So I continued to Elder Fern’s office door.  “Elder Fern, are you in there? I need to talk to you.” I say knocking, desperate to get away from the smell. And to know if she’ll give my memories back. I heard shuffling inside but no one answered the door for a while. “Yes Ophelia darling I’m here, you may enter.”      I turned the doorknob and pushed the door open, but the smell only became stronger. It was blood, and it's everywhere.     Elder Fern sat behind her desk in the far corner of the room. Her face has a huge gash down the side of it, more than likely made by glass because it doesn't look like it’s healed yet. (Glass is dangerous to pixies, and could be fatal if it gets in the heart.) “Elder Fern are you okay? Oh goodness I should go get Elder Moon, shouldn’t I? I’ll be right back,” I say, making my way to the door.      But Mrs. Fern cleared her throat behind me, “I’m fine Ophelia, now, what is it you wanted?” She asked looking up from cleaning her b****y leg to smile up at me. “With all due respect Elder Fern, I think you know what I want.” “Yes I suppose I do, don't I?” She says, wrapping a bandage around her leg. I nod, “Is there any more glass in the cuts?” I ask running over to her desk and kneeling next to her knee. “I don’t believe so, can you check for me darling?” I nod, though the blood made me sick.     I unwrap her leg and look at her skin first, making sure there’s no glass in the blood that’s beside the cut. Then, I look at the cut itself, over and over to make sure there’s no small shards that we could’ve missed.      “Elder Fern?” I start, ready to ask a question that’s been nagging at my brain since I walked inside her office today, “Who did this to you?”     I watched as she chose her next words, “That’s nothing to concern yourself over dear.” She says that, but anyone who could’ve seen her would be concerned. No one touches the Elders. No one plans an attack on the Elders and succeeds, they are basically untouchable.     I always thought that I was in the safest place I could be, I’m in the castle’s village, which holds the Royale Council, and the King and Queen of Azula.     But looking at Elder Fern right now, I’m scared, what if the Elder’s aren’t as strong as we all thought? What if someone gets to the King and Queen? What if we aren’t safe anymore?     “But I am concerned. The Elders are the strongest beings in Azula after the King and Queen, and if someone can do this to the Elders, to you, they could easily do it to anybody else. Anyone they want. Elder Fern contemplated, “No dear, the young princess is the strongest after the King and Queen.”     I’m sure my eyes went as wide as Earth itself, “The King and Queen have an heir? I’ve never heard of such a thing. There’s a princess of Azula?” “Yes dear, the young princess. The King and Queen haven’t seen her in quite some time.” Elder Fern says. “Well where is she?” The more she speaks, the more curious I get. “Well, we’ve been watching her for some time now, and I’d say she’s not very far.” She says, putting my curiosity at its highest. A princess of Azula? That’s absolutely absurd. There’s no way the King and Queen could have kept that from the world. How long has this been going on? “How old is she?” I ask. “She’s seventeen as of recently.” She answered, probably running out of things to say to hide the princess’ identity because she says, “That’s quite enough questions for today. “ “Yes Elder Fern, make sure you keep a bandage over your cuts. Oh, and make sure you check for glass in the cut in your head before you put a bandage on it.” I say, ready to walk out of the room. “Don’t worry, I will, and darling, you’ll understand soon why I haven’t given back your memories, perhaps a little too soon.” She whispered the last part, but I heard. I didn’t give it much thought though, is there really a princess of Azula? I go to Elder Moon’s office and say, “Mrs. Fern is in bad shape, can you go heal her up real quick?” Her eyes go wide, and she runs to Elder Fern’s office. I watch her go, and leave the council house. Name: Molly Moon Level: 94 Species: Werewolf Ability: Healing  I walk back to my house, I live there alone with a few maids, mid tiers who needed the money back when my parents were still alive. I’m sure they don’t need the money now, but they stay, and they keep me company. They’re more of my friends than my employees. I walk into my room, change into training apparel, and walk into the kitchen, grabbing an apple for later to eat at Ability Bay.  “Are you gonna’ go meet Shark?” The maid Jacky asks, probably already knowing the answer. “Yeah, I’m feeling like I’m gonna’ need to know how to defend myself, especially now,” I say, not mentioning Elder Fern, though that’s what I meant.  “Your magic will pull through, I know it will, can you give this to Shark when you see him?” Jacky asks, holding out an envelope and patting my shoulder.  “I sure hope so, anyways, see you later Jacky.” I grab the envelope, and walk out the door. “See ya.” I walk to Ability Bay, where I meet Shark everyday to train. “You’re late Ophelia, that’s an extra ten laps. Get a move on.” Shark yells from about twenty feet ahead of me.  Shark is a merman. A representative from the Sparkling Azula, the ocean that surrounds our country. He has the ability of strength.   I jog a few laps, getting myself warmed up, and then I sprint until I get to ten laps, and then I start noticing something.  A bush about ten feet in front of me, and a bush about seven feet behind me are rustling.  It’s not windy, and animals haven’t really hung around here since the ability war, so there’s people watching me.  I finish my lap and tell Shark about the bushes, and he nods, slightly looking around. I start running again, this time a boy, looking to be around my age jumps out of the bush in front of me. He lunges at me, but I move out of his way, and lock his knees, pushing him to the ground. I keep an eye on him, but he disappears, and shoves me from behind. Which means he has a teleportation ability.  I regain my balance and duck under his punch, grabbing his arm and twisting it behind him. He tries to break free, but I kick his knee and he falls. I put him in a choke hold, and look behind me, but I can’t see Shark, not until he steps out from around a tree beside the water. “Alright, alright, you got him,” Shark says, laughing at the boy’s helpless form. I back up, dropping his arm, and releasing him from my hold. “Ophelia, this is my son Dallas, Dallas, this is Ophelia.” Shark introduces us to each other. Now that I think about it, they look similar, they have the same eyes, a bright blue, as blue as Sparkling Azula. “Hello Dallas, nice to meet you.” I say holding my hand out for him to shake. He takes it in a firm grasp. He stands about a foot taller than me, a little shorter than Shark, who also towers over me. “So the bushes were you guys?” I ask confused. “My daughter is also here, come here Lillie.” Shark says, holding out his hand to a little girl who looks about six or seven. “Lillie, say hi to Ophelia,” Shark says, picking her up. She waves at me and whispers a small, “hello.”   Shark whispers something in Lillie’s ear, and she smiles and nods. I feel a tap on my back, and I look behind me to see Lillie smiling up at me. I look back at Shark, and Lillie’s still in his arms. I look back and forth between the two Lillies, until the one behind me disappears. “How did she do that?” I ask, looking up at Lilly. “It’s called decoy, right now she can make about ten duplicates of herself,” Dallas said, smiling proudly. “That’s incredible,” I say, completely in awe of the little girl before me. “Alright, Ophelia and Dallas, you have ten more laps to do, then we’ll get started. Go now before I add more.” Me and Dallas start our laps again, and for the first few laps we don’t say anything. Then, after the fourth lap, a conversation starts. “So my dad says he’s teaching a high tier, but you don’t seem to have an ability, so is my dad teaching other students, or are you that much stronger than you look?” He says, which I found really offensive. “No, I am a high tier, but my magic is being suppressed somehow.” I say, looking at him, and then turning back around and speeding up. “So your parents keep you up in society or something?” He asks, the curiosity beaming in his eyes.  “Well they were, until they weren’t anymore.” I just couldn’t say that they were dead, it’s hard enough to think, but it’s so much harder to say out loud. “So who were your parents?”  He asks. “Jillian Pierce and Titus Jones” I say, knowing he’ll recognize them, everyone does. My dad was a famous entrepreneur, and my mom was a model. Some people don’t even believe me when I say I’m their daughter, I look nothing like my parents, and I have no power in their eyes. To everyone else, I’m just a defect.  “Oh, sorry,” he said, not saying anything for the rest of the laps.  After practicing hand to hand combat, Shark ended training for the day. “Hey Shark, did you know there’s a princess of Azula?” I ask. He shares a look with Dallas and then turns to me. “Yes, I was aware.” He says. His tone of voice made me slightly suspicious, he knows something, something he’s not gonna’ tell me. “Have you ever met her? I’ve heard the King and Queen haven’t seen her in awhile.” I say. “Yeah, I’ve met her a few times, and Dallas has seen her once.” He says, closing off information just as good as Elder Fern did. “Well, I’ve got to go, Jacky wanted me to give you this. Goodbye, it was nice meeting you Dallas,” I say, waving goodbye to Lillie. “Hey,Ophelia?” Dallas says behind me, “I really am sorry, what I said could have easily been taken as insensitive.” I nod, smiling over at them once again, and shaking off the look Shark gave me. And I decide something, after the day I’ve had, I deserve some pizza. So, I walk to my favorite pizza parlor on the quieter side of town.
