###Chapter 1
"Will you marry me?"
"I don't need a dowry, a house, or a car—just a marriage certificate will do!"
Fresh out of prison, Elianna Melton was desperate to stop her parents from marrying her off to the disfigured thirdborn of the Quinn family. In a last-ditch effort, she proposed to a stranger on the street.
Expecting rejection, she instead found herself suddenly married to the devastatingly handsome world's richest man.
He had only one condition: she can never fall in love with him.
Eager to secure the marriage, Elianna agreed immediately.
After getting married, she kept her distance from her husband.
But her husband grew increasingly insatiable, pinning her down night after night.
"Honey, say you love me..."
Three days ago, a police officer approached an inmate."No.2246, you're free to go."
The woman behind the bars had striking features but empty eyes, her gaze fixed blankly on the iron gates.
The police officer raised his voice and shouted,"No.2246!"
The officer's sharp call finally snapped Elianna back to reality. She shuffled toward the exit lifelessly.
Three years ago, she had her engagement party to Jaylen Lucero on this day. Yet it marked the start of her living nightmare.
All it took was one sip of water from her younger sister's hand.
She blacked out, only to wake beside a stranger in a bed.
Her younger sister barged in with a crowd, screaming about her infidelity.
Meeting Jaylen's devastated eyes, Elianna panicked. She grabbed her sister, trying to explain.
Then her sister collapsed, blood seeping from her nose and mouth, begging through tears,"Don't kill me..."
Jaylen's slap sent Elianna reeling. He called the police, deaf to her pleas and explanations.
She was taken into custody, injured, and spent three whole years inside.
Three years in prison cost her hearing and crushed her pride.
A black BMW waited on the bleak street outside.
"Elianna, get in!"
"Dad..."
Her heart swelled—they hadn't abandoned her after all.
After getting in the car, she did not see her sister.
"Mom, where's Becky? I need to see her. About what happened back then, it was Becky who..."
Before Elianna could finish, her mother's eyes flashed with hatred and reproach.
"How dare you bring that up? I thought you'd changed, but you're still just as defiant and jealous of your sister!
"How can you be so licentious and shameless? You're a disgrace to our family!
"Do you even know that poison nearly killed Becky?
"Becky spent two miserable years abroad alone recovering! And she had to clean up the mess you left behind!
"And you? You only served three years in prison and lazed around like a parasite!
"Thankfully Becky proved herself worthy. She and Jaylen are finally together as they should be!"
The barrage of accusations made Elianna's clenched hands tremble slightly.
She didn't understand why her mother was always so biased.
Why had everything she ever done been wrong, from childhood until now?
"Enough! This commotion is unacceptable!" Richard Melton glanced at his wife and daughter before continuing,"Elianna, I've arranged a good marriage for you—with the thirdborn of the Quinn family.
"They're willing to overlook your prison record. This match is beyond what you deserve!"
It was true that this marriage was beyond what she deserved.
The Quinn family stood at the pinnacle of Chicago's power.
Every Quinn excelled in business or politics except one, who became the family's disgrace.
That was the thirdborn of the Quinn family, who almost died in a fire and became disabled at the age of ten.
