Little battles.

Katherine stood at the top of the stairs, looking at the scene downstairs. She woke up not long ago and decided to have a glass of water. Sean had not returned to their room yet. He was probably still working in his office. As there was no need to bother him, she decided to go and have a drink. It wouldn't be the first time he spent most of the night working. Katherine took her nightrobe and left their bedroom. She reached the stairs when some sounds came to her ears, but it didn't faze her, as someone was probably not sleeping, just like her. Yet when she checked who was making those noises, her heart stopped for a minute. Down the hall, her husband sauntered with Camille, obviously very interested in whatever she had to say. Katherine's blood boiled as their ~quest~ was wearing a nightgown, which left almost nothing for imagination. But it had not made her mad. It was her husband's, her mate's sight, sliding over Camille's body without shame. He was eating her with his eyes. - What is going on here?- It was time to let them know they were not alone here. Both of them turned their attention to her. Sean's face turned red with embarrassment as he got caught red-handed. Camille, on the other hand, was still standing there, giggling slightly. - Can someone answer my question?- She hurried them up as none of them was willing to speak. - I am sorry, Luna. I went to grab a drink and got lost. - Camille answered, giving her a warm smile. - It looks like you were lucky to find my husband. - Luna said sarcastically. - I was indeed, and your mate offered to show me the way to my room. - Alpha William's daughter said like she was challenging her. ~ This bi*ch is making fun of us. - Lucy growled in Katherine's mind. - Enough!- Sean decided to speak for the first time. - Camille got lost, and I was finishing my work already, so I decided to show her the way. Luna couldn't believe what she was seeing right now. Her husband was giving her a cold stare like she was the one who crossed the line. - Then I have to apologize.- Katherine said through gritted teeth. She turned around and left before the tears she held back would betray her and roll down her cheeks. She returned to their bedroom, fighting the urge to slam the door. But the Luna was better than that. Katherine took a few deep breaths to calm herself down. Her wolf was not taking it that well. ~ She is not wasting her time. What was she wearing?~ Lucy was prancing in her mind. ~ You are right. She is acting quickly. But that was something we could expect since she came here. ~ Katherine was doing her best to think straight. ~ We need to get rid of her as soon as we can. ~ And how are we going to do that? I could rip off her head. ~ Lucy was snarling, and it was not helping at all. ~ Killing her isn't an option, I am afraid.~ Katherine reminded her wolf. The woman was pacing around the room, trying to gather her thoughts. In the past, Camille came to their pack much later, and even then, she was able to destroy everything, but her coming here now was a disaster. That was a move Katherine was not expecting at all, forcing her to think about a different solution. But for now, her mind was a complete mess. Downstairs, Sean was looking at the woman before him, embarrassed by his wife's outburst. - I am so sorry. My wife has been having a hard time recently and can act irrationally. - He spoke quietly. Camille was amused by this situation. Everything was going as she planned it, even better now when Luna caught them together. Of course, she was not going to say it to Alpha. It was time to play a generous and understanding person. - Do not worry about that. It is all my fault. She is your mate, and seeing you with another woman would affect her significantly when I was so reckless and chose this entirely inappropriate outfit. - She finished, moving her hands over her body like she was trying to smooth her silky nightgown. It didn't go unnoticed that Alpha's eyes followed her every move and got darker. - Let me take you to your room. - He said in a hoarse voice. - Of course, Alpha. Anyway, I think it is time for me to go to bed. - Camille replied with a smile. Katherine was still walking around the room when the door opened, and her husband entered. She stopped to look at him. Sean closed the door and went to her with a stone face, but the anger was visible in his eyes. She had known him long enough to know what was going to happen now—the Speech. - What is going on with you? - He snapped at her. Katherine was ready to say something, but her husband was not done yet. - I was very understanding, but I can't ignore it anymore. Do you think I can't see how you have been looking at Camille since she came here? What do you have against her? You treat her like an enemy. - He stopped to take a breath. - While you treat her like a very close friend. - Katherine said before he was ready to speak again. Sean's eyes got darker as the anger built up inside of him. - She is our quest and a future ally. We should show her the best in us, our hostility and friendship. She should feel welcomed here as whatever she experiences here will come to her father's ears. - He gave her another cold stare. - As a Luna, you should understand it. I worked very hard to gain their trust and convince them to join our alliance, but it looks like you don't care about that. Katherine looked at him and smirked. - You are welcoming enough for both of us. Excuse me if I do not appreciate the fact that my mate is spending time with a woman who is wearing close to nothing. Do you find it appropriate behavior?- She asked her husband, whose face almost immediately became red. - So is it all about that? I thought you were better than that.- He regained his composure and looked straight into her eyes. - Now you are assuming that I am unfaithful? I am done with this conversation. I will sleep in one of the guest rooms to give you time to consider your accusations. Then, without saying another word, her husband grabbed a pillow and blanket and left the room. Katherine was furious. How dare he tell her she was unreasonable here? Like her eyes were fooling her back there? Was it not her husband eyeing Camille like she was a fine piece of steak? ~ Did we lose another round?~ Lucy asked her, and this question made her even angrier. ~ I would like to deny it, but I think we did. ~ Katherine said quietly. There was no point in thinking about this more, so Katherine decided to go to bed. She needed her strength for another day. Camille was sitting in her room, smiling to herself. It was, in fact, going better than she expected. This Alpha will be hers in no time. Even without a bit of help, he was already interested in her. He quickly went against his wife, his mate. As Camille predicted, there was still time to mess up their bond. If she plays it right, he will soon reject Katherine and make her his new Luna. And that is all she needs. Next day. Katherine woke up early in the morning as she usually was. This was a perfect time for a morning run. The air was fresh, and the sky was clear, all that could help her clear her mind. Lucy also needed that as she was still agitated. The woman took a shower dressed in a sports bra and leggings, ready to leave the packhouse. She needed some time alone before facing her husband or Camille. Katherine left the house, unnoticed by anyone, and quickly walked to the woods. She stripped off her clothes and shifted into her wolf. Lucy was a massive beast with gray fur, which was getting darker on her legs and paws. Her eyes had an unusual color, as they were violet, a rare color amongst wolves. She was swift and robust, thanks to the Gamma training in the past. Katherine was still training with the warriors occasionally, but not many of them were a match for her. That was a perk of being a Luna. Her position gave her an extra boost of power. She was running through the woods, aiming for another favorite spot from childhood. Since she was not able to enjoy the river in her pack, she decided to visit a pond just after the border. That was a risky move, but she couldn't care less today. Katherine reached the pond and lay on the ground, watching the water. It was so peaceful and quiet here. The woman spent a fair amount of time there, clearing her mind. This peaceful moment was ruined by an unexpected appearance of the man on the other side of the pond. Lucy jumped on her legs, watching him with a little growl. He was pale and moving with a struggle. After a few steps, he fell to his knees and on the ground without another movement. Katherine watched him for a while before she and Lucy decided to get closer carefully, as this could be a trap. As they nearly reached him, the wind changed, bringing his scent and making them stop. The man on the ground was a vampire.
