Twenty one questions?

Katherine was so shocked that she forgot how to breathe for a minute. How come this vampire knew her biggest secrets and talked about this like it was nothing? The man in front of her slowly pulled himself to the sitting position, still not taking his eyes off her. - Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me. - He said, bringing her back to reality. - How did you know?- She whispered, but he just shrugged his arms. Katherine wasn't buying it. He couldn't just drop a bomb like that and keep it for himself. - Is it some royal thing? Secret gift?- She pressed harder on him. The vampire giggled with amusement. - You could say that. - The man replied and went silent again. His behavior was getting on her nerves. - I think you owe me some explanation. - Katherine pointed out. - I owe you much more, like my life, for example. - He said calmly. - Don't worry. I am not going to ask you to die for me. I am still more interested in how come you knew my secret. - She said with a small smile, playing on her lips. This man was annoying, but somehow she found him fascinating. But mostly annoying. - As you noticed before, it is one of my gifts. - He said calmly, fixing his ripped shirt on his chest. - One of the gifts? Like there are others?- Katherine asked almost immediately. - You are asking many questions, but yes, I have a few. But I am not going to tell you what they are. - He quickly added as she was ready to speak again. The woman's lips closed almost immediately. - I will tell you one day if I decide to trust you. - The vampire said when he noticed she became sad. Werewolves were so emotional. - Are you suggesting there will be more chances to talk?- Katherine asked, surprised by his statement. - I don't think it is going to happen. - I am sure you were not expecting to save a vampire's life today, yet here we are. - The man said, giggling again. ~ As for someone who almost died, he seemed to be very relaxed. ~ Lucy said in Katherine's mind. - Would you like me to let you bleed out?- She asked him. - No, I definitely prefer it like that. - He replied, touching his healed skin. There were still slight marks on places where bullets entered his body, but they would be gone soon. - I am Greg, by the way, and you are? - Katherine. - The woman answered, shocked at how quickly he was able to change the subject. - So what happened to you?- He asked another question. - Care to elaborate on that? - You are reborn, so how did your previous life end? Accident? Battle?- He looked at her carefully. - Murder. - Katherine replied, shrugging her arms. - What happened to you? - The diplomatic trip didn't go well. - It was his turn to be nonchalant. - You don't have a gift of speech? - Luna raised her eyebrows, pretending to be surprised. - You can't have everything. - I always thought the royals should be skilled at charming everyone with their words. That's how politics works, right? - What makes you think I am a royal?- He decided to ignore this little insult. - Let me think. - Katherine looked at him. - Yes, I know your eyes. - I am not a vampire expert, but they are usually red, aren't they? - You are, in fact, an expert. - He laughed at her. - The color of my eyes shows that I am a pureblood, not a royal. - A pureblood? - She asked, confused. That meant nothing to her. - And I thought you were, in fact, an expert. What a disappointment. - Greg let out another laugh. - It means I was born a vampire. My parents are vampires. The ones you are thinking about were turned. We have not much in common. And there is one more thing that proves my identity. - He paused for a while, giving her time to solve the riddle. - And what is that?- Katherine was cursing her ignorance. ~ He is immune to the sunlight, obviously. ~ Lucy helped her. Katherine smirked and repeated her words. - Your wolf helped you?- The man asked, making her gasp. - Can you hear her?- She asked suspiciously. If he knew that she was reborn, who knows what else he could do? - I have gifts, but that is not one of them. I just noticed how your sight changes for a second.- Greg explained, and Katherine felt relieved. - But she is correct, or you would be talking to the pile of ash right now. Let's get back to you. Do you know who murdered you? Katherine's mood changed almost immediately. It was strange. She almost forgot about what was waiting for her at home, but his question brought her back to reality. - I don't want to talk about that. - She spoke quietly. - Is it that bad?- The vampire looked at her. His smile was gone. - It is. People shouldn't be betrayed like that. - You don't have to say more. Maybe when we know each other better, you will be ready to talk about that.- Greg tried to comfort her. It was new for him. As usual, other people's feelings did not matter to him. But this she-wolf was different from the ones he had met in the past. And on top of everything, she saved his life. - You keep mentioning our future meetings. - Katherine pointed out. - Why wouldn't we meet again? Life is unpredictable. Who knows what could happen next? And besides, I enjoyed this conversation. I might want to talk to you again. - Greg said, standing up. - Who said I would like to talk to you again?- Katherine was surprised at how co*ky he was. - The amount of time we spent here today, let me think that you wouldn't mind. - The man replied, pointing to the sun's position in the sky. Katherine followed his hand and gasped. He was right, she came here in the early morning, and it was already late afternoon. They spent hours together. - Did you put some spell on me? How is it even possible?- She asked in a high-pitched voice. - You see, time flies when you have good fun. - He replied with a smile. - If being almost dead is your concept of fun, it was like a funfair for you. - She said sarcastically. This vampire was crazy. Maybe it was caused by blood loss. - Let's not think about what could happen. - He said, getting serious again. - I will see you soon. I owe you my life, and I a going to pay my debt, one way or another. Katherine looked down, letting out a heavy sigh. - You owe me nothing. - She said before raising her head. She was ready to say more, but there was no one who could hear her. Greg was gone. She looked around, but he was nowhere to be seen. ~ Maybe he turned himself into a bat and flew away. ~ Lucy said, grinning.~ But I have to admit he was different from what she thought vampires were. ~ Whatever it was, he was not here anymore, and we also should go back home. We have our nightmare waiting for us.~ Katherine said, coming closer to the pond. There was still vampire blood on her hands. She had to get rid of it first. When she was done with that, she quickly stripped and shifted into her wolf. The giant owl was sitting on the tree, watching the wolf leave the pond and disappear into the woods. Her icy blue eyes closed for a moment before the bird flew away. The loud, quick steps could be heard in the massive hall of the old castle. Greg was hurrying up to meet his father and tell him about the results of his trip. They were not promising, as without Ketherine's help, he wouldn't be here now. He finally stopped before the massive door guarded by two vampire warriors. - I came to see my father. - He spoke calmly. It was a stupid rule he had to follow, as everyone knew who he was, and his father probably already heard his voice anyway. But rules are rules, and his family liked to keep their traditions. One of the warriors knocked at the door, and when the answer was heard from the inside, he pushed them. Greg entered the room where his father was sitting behind the massive old desk. His office was more like a ballroom, filled with the portraits of their ancestors and shelves with all kinds of books. Greg noticed his mother and a younger brother also being present there. ~ We will have a family gathering.~He thought to himself. Before he was able to say a word, the warrior who let him in, spoke in a loud voice. - Prince Gregory Frost.
