Chapter 8 Snowed In When I woke up, it was dark outside. I wasn't sure exactly when I had fallen asleep, but the clock on the wall read five AM. Great, just great! That's just what I needed! Kayla was still asleep on the rocking chair, a hand slung over her face. Anthony was laying on the other side of the couch, mouth hanging open. I silently stood and slipped on my jacket and boots, grabbing Kayla's jacket and putting it on her. Surprisingly, she didn't wake up, even when I slung her over my shoulder and walked to the door. Slowly I turned the nob and pushed. It didn't budge. I pushed again, harder this time, but it still didn't move. Puzzled, I set Kayla down on the ground and pushed with both hands, sighing in frustration when it didn't open. "Anthony!" I called, shaking his shoulder. He sat straight up, giving me a questioning look. "The front door won't open." "What did you do now?" He asked sarcastically, walking to the front door. I rolled my eyes and followed. After ten minutes of trying, and failing, he gave up, "What the hell?!" He exclaimed, slamming a fist on the door. I glanced out the window and suddenly saw the problem. I couldn't even see out the window because it was covered in white, except for a little sliver at the top. Out of the sliver I could see snow piled so high it would cover my head. "Oh, God.." I muttered, rubbing my temples, "Is there another door?" Anthony shook his head, staring out the window, "A back window?" "No, all the windows in the house are fake, my Aunt had them made that way on purpose. None of them actually open." "Great, then we're stuck!" I exclaimed, plopping down on the couch. Kayla was still on the floor, but I didn't want to get up. As long as she was asleep, she didn't care. Right? "My parents are so going to kill me." "No, they won't," Anthony said, putting an arm around my shoulder and turning on the TV. We sat in silence as we listened to the weatherman, hoping it would clear up soon. I couldn't believe this was happening. True it was only five in the morning, but when my parents woke up they would kill me. They probably were already freaking out because I was out so late with Kayla. "I'm dead," I said, leaning my head on Anthony's shoulder. "Don't worry." He said into my ear, making me shiver. When the weather report was over it was obvious we were going nowhere soon. Almost the whole town was covered in snow, and more was on the way. "Well, this is great." "Is it so bad to be stuck with me?" He pulled away, giving me a hurt look. "No." I laughed, and he smiled. "Wait here, I have something for you." He said as he stood, leaving me alone with Kayla. My heart was still beating way too fast from being so close to him. I knew I was falling for him, and I knew it was a bad thing. I mean, we were both just visiting and I had no clue where he lived, but I couldn't help it. With a sigh, I put Kayla back on her rocking chair and turned on the radio. My favorite song was on, I'll Be Home For Christmas, "Back." I turned to see Anthony run back into the room, a little red box grasped in his hand. There was a sparkly silver ribbon wrapped around the package. "Happy birthday." I gasped and looked up at him, shocked. He just smiled down at me, a big cocky smirk plastered on his face. I had forgotten it was my birthday, and there was an almost stranger giving me a present. With shaky hands I took the box, slipping off the ribbon and opening it. I gasped again as my heart took off racing. A little gold necklace sat in the center of the box, the words Merry Christmas engraved in the gold. "Oh my gosh, it's beautiful," I said breathlessly, sliding my finger over it. "Could you help me?" He nodded and took the box. I laughed as he struggled to get it out of the box, but when he finally managed I smiled. He slipped his hands around my neck, clasping the necklace together. I shivered as he kept his hands there, staring into my eyes. "Thanks," I whispered. "No problem." He shook his head slightly, pulling away. I secretly wished he would put his hands back, but I didn't say it because he would think I was a creep, "Want to dance?" He smiled at me. I c****d an eyebrow at him. "Excuse me?" "D-A-N-C-E. Dance." He said, taking my hands and putting them around his neck before putting his around my waist. "I...I don't know how." I started to pull away, but he pulled me closer, so close our chests were touching. "I'll show you." He said, pulling me even closer. I smiled and nodded, looking into his eyes. I lost track of time, it felt like seconds that we danced to I'll Be Home For Christmas. We swayed, talking about nothing and everything. Just when I thought I had told him every detail of my life, he surprised me by thinking of more questions. He captivated me. It was like I was under some spell. Before I knew it, leaned forward pulling me out of my daze, "Happy birthday Bree." He whispered in my ear before pulling away. My whole body tingled as I watched him leave the room, and I sighed, my heart racing like crazy.
