Chapter 7 Snow Fight "I love that movie." Mackenzie sighed as the credits rolled onto the screen. We had just finished watching 'Elf' for the third time that day. For some reason, I didn't feel like doing anything else. Being lazy and staying home sounded really good "Bree!" Kayla exclaimed, bursting through the front door. She had little pieces of snow clinging to her eyelashes and boots. "It started snowing again! Come and play with me!" I groaned; I hated playing in the snow. "Wouldn't you rather play inside?" I asked. "We could make cookies." "After we play in the snow, come on!" She exclaimed, grabbing my wrist and pulling gently. Sighing I stood to my feet, slipping on my jacket and boots. "Want to come, Kinz?" "I'm good here, sipping my nice hot coco." She said, taking a large sip of hot chocolate. "Yum!" I rolled my eyes at her, she knew I hated the snow. It was just like her to make it ten times worse. "Hurry!" Kayla screamed, running through the open door. I followed after her, making sure to close the door behind me. In the four days I had been here, about six inches of snow had been added to the five already on the ground. There were at least eleven inches covering every solid surface all over town, if not more. "Let's make a snowman!" She squealed, grabbing some snow in her hands. I had taught her the year before how to make a snowman, ever since then she had prided herself in the knowledge. "Okay, you make the head and I'll make the rest," I said, beginning the bottom circle of snow. It took us twenty minutes to get the snowman together, it ended up being so large we were hardly able to get the head on top. It was taller than me, nearly six foot, but on the bright side, we had cleared most of the snow from my grandma's driveway. "I'll go get the carrot and cole for it's face!" Kayla exclaimed, running up the porch steps. I chuckled at her eagerness. I remembered when I was so eager to play on the snow. Now I thought it disgusting to even touch it, it was cold and made my toes numb, not to mention it just made everything soggy. "Nice." I turned around to see Anthony standing on the sidewalk. Why did he keep turning up? "Thanks, I made it with my sister," I replied, sticking twigs in its sides for the arms. "Awww, is Bree a child at heart? Loving to play in the snow?" "No! I hate it, I was being nice!" I exclaimed. Just then Kayla came running back, her arms full of supplies. "Hey, Anthony!" She chirped, flashing him a smile. "Hey, Kayla, what'd you got there?" He asked, walking forward. "Stuff for the snowman. He needs a face, duh." "Would you like some help?" She nodded eagerly, smiling. He scooped her into his arms, placing her on his shoulders. She giggled as she leaned over his head, sticking the cole where its eyes should be. Anthony stuck the carrot in the snow while Kayla put on the smile. I laughed at them, they looked like some sort of two-headed monster. "There, he's done!" Kayla said happily. "What are you going to name him?" Anthony asked. "Dasher, like Santa's reindeer!" I chuckled. She had always been obsessed with Dasher. Ever since she was two and watched the Rudolph movie. "I like it, Dasher the snowman." Anthony said, letting Kayla slip off his back. "Can we go in now Kayla?" I asked, only slightly annoyed. I didn't really mind the cold once Anthony got there. "I still want to play!" She whined, sticking out her bottom lip. "Fine!" I sighed, "But we're having a snowball fight." I pulled the ball of snow put from behind my back, chunking it at Kayla. Unfortunately for me, my aim sucked, so it hit Anthony in the shoulder. His eyes widened in surprise as his mouth dropped open. I laughed and grabbed another ball of snow, running in the opposite direction. I could hear them talking begin me, so I turned to look. Kayla was on Anthony's back, holding a snowball in her hands and a smile on her face. Crap, I was in trouble. Anthony's hood was full of snowballs that Kayla could grab no problem, and Anthony had Kayla's hat grasped in his hands, also filled with snowballs. How they had gotten them so quick was beyond me, but I knew it was trouble. "Not fair!" I called, sticking my tongue out. "Is so! We'll give you a five-second head start, I suggest you start running!" Anthony stuck his tongue back out at me, making me laugh, "One...Two..." I didn't hear the rest of his counting because I took off running. Kayla was laughing madly behind me, probably having more fun than she had had in a while. I kept running untill we reached a little park, where I collapsed on a snow-covered bench, gasping for breath. A few seconds later I was bombarded by a ton of snowballs, hitting me hard. I screamed and bent to cover my head as they kept throwing snowballs at me, followed by their roaring laughter. "Guys!" I yelled, jumping to my feet. Anthony was clutching his stomach laughing, letting Kayla off his back with one hand. "Kayla, why don't you go play with those kids over there?" I asked, pointing to a group of kids on the swings. She nodded and ran off eagerly. "That was mean Anthony," I said, taking a step forward, wincing as the snow slushed around in my boot. "You should have seen your face," Anthony said, smirking. I smiled at him sweetly before chunking the snowball I was still clutching at him, hitting him square in the jaw. His mouth fell open again, but I could see the evil in his eyes. Oh crap! I turned to run, but it was too late. Anthony's body smashed into mine, sending me towards the snow. Somehow he managed to twist me so I was lying face up with him hovering a few inches above me. "Now that's not fair," Anthony said, blowing puffs if warm air in my face. I stuck my tongue out at him, making him laugh. "Holy crap your shaking." He rolled off of me, pulling me to my feet. I hadn't realized how cold I was before he mentioned it, but I was in fact shaking. "Come on, we'll go to my aunt's house to get you warmed up, it's closer." He pulled me close to him, wrapping his arms around me and pinning my arms to my side. "Come on, Kayla!" "Coming!" She called, running up to us. I was surprised she came, she usually put up a fight. It didn't take up long to get to his aunt's house. We were closer than I thought. He lead us up the steps and into the house. We walked straight into the living room, immediately engulphed in warmth. It was nice. There were brown leather couches and a brown rocking chair. Bookshelves lined the walls, only making enough space for a small TV. "Make yourself at home, my aunt is gone on a business trip this weekend. I'll be right back with hot chocolate." And then he slipped out of the room. I set to work pulling the various layers of clothing off Kayla until she was down to her Dora pajamas that she hadn't wanted to take off. "I'm sleepy." She moaned, rubbing her eyes. I picked her up and set her down on the rocking chair, covering her with a quilt that was in the floor. She was already half asleep so I slipped out of the room to find Anthony. I found him in the kitchen, stirring the chocolate into the warm milk. The kitchen was nice, with black and white tile, a white round table, and four chairs circling it. All the appliances were black, except for the dishwasher which was white. The counters and cabinets were also white, making the black pop. The refrigerator was covered with pictures of Anthony, mostly of him playing in the snow when he was younger. In one he was sitting in a woman's lap, laughing at something she had said. She looked a lot like me, blonde hair and blue eyes. Her nose even tilted slightly to the left, just like mine had when I broke it jumping on a trampoline when I was seven. Her cheeks were redder though, and her hair was a little lighter. She looked so happy holding her son, who looked to be about six. At that age, Anthony had sandy blonde hair, but the same green eyes that captivated me. "Is that your mom?" I asked, pointing to the picture. "Yeah." He sighed, picking up two cups. "Kayla's asleep, right?" I noticed he changed the subject quickly, but I didn't mention it. "Yeah, you could tell she was tired?" "Her eyes were practically drooping the last few minutes." He laughed, handing me a cup. I sipped on it gratefully. "Do you want her to stay asleep?" "If it's not to much trouble..." I said, biting my bottom lip. In truth I didn't care, I just wanted to spend more time with him. "No problem, let's watch a movie or something till she wakes up." He said, smiling at me. I smiled back without even thinking about it, it just seemed so natural. My heart started to flutter seeing him smile, his green eyes sparkling. Yep, Mackenzie was right. I was defiantly falling for him.
