Ciara’s POV
I chose the furthest chair in the room and sat down majestically. I looked at my father, waiting for him to talk, when the door swung open and Kaitlyn marched in with Liam, my supposed to be husband.
A smug smile spread on her face when she saw me.
“That b*tch” I gritted under my breath.
I had a bad feeling about this whole situation.
When I looked at Liam, he was avoiding my gaze and that confirmed my suspicion. I haven’t seen him since he broke up with me on the day of our wedding. I continued looking at him until my stepmom cleared her throat so loudly that I flinched.
I turned to my father, “I’m all ears.”
“Ciara, I’m very disappointed with you. I can’t believe I raised a whore.” He spoke slowly, and his words were like a punch in the gut. He did not even bother to ask what happened. He has already judged me. I wondered if he ever loved me or if I was just an inconvenience to him. I could only look down in shame because I could say or do anything to change what happened. Sleeping with a total stranger that I mistook for my fiancée on the night before my wedding, sounds ridiculous, even to me.
“Father, it’s not what you think…” I tried to say something, but Danielle rudely interrupted me.
“Let your father speak,” she gave me a cold stare.
My father continued, “Since Liam called off his wedding with you, he had come to us to ask for your sister’s hand in marriage.” I almost choked on my spit.
“WHAT???” I saw red.
“Mind your tone,” my father warned me.
“My daughter will be getting married to Liam in two weeks' time,” Danielle looked at me with a smirk.
What? My sister and Liam? But Howww??? I’m mated to this man, and we were supposed to get married last week. When did they get together, and why would Liam do this to me, to us? I wondered.
I remembered how I had a huge crush on Liam as a little girl, but I did well in keeping it a secret. When I turned thirteen, I joined other teenage werewolves on the training ground. Liam has already been a captain since he was sixteen and the future Alpha of our pack. He was so kind to me and helped keep the bullies away. He’d train me and let me practice at his place after the general training.
Then, we became friends and Liam would always compliment my beauty and smart personality. We liked each other and wanted to be mates. So when Liam turned eighteen and discovered his wolf, he found out that I was his mate, and we were so happy and thankful to the moon goddess for being so kind to us. We have been inseparable ever since.
I knew that my stepsister had tried to get close to Liam a couple of times, but I never thought that she’d go this far.
My mate was never fond of my sister even though I never told him about how she and her mom treated me, so I was surprised to hear that he was getting married to her.
Kaitlyn, on the other hand, was not even surprised because she was desperate and would do anything and everything to take what was mine.
When we were little, she’d always cry over my toys and beautiful dresses and her mom would take them and give them to Kait. She was always in a competition with me, even for daddy’s attention.
Still in shock, I glanced at Liam, but he avoided my gaze, just like my father.
’D—a-d, h-how could you do this to me? I tried to sound strong, but my voice broke and I couldn’t control my emotions.
“Ciara, they’re in love. You cannot fight with that.” My dad tried to reason with me, but I was boiling in a rage. Again, Kaitlyn won.
“It is not your father’s fault. He did not teach you to w***e around when you’re mated to Alpha’s son. You probably got that from your mother,” Danielle said, and I could not believe my ears.
“Dad,” I yelled, but he just looked at Danielle without saying anything. I was upset, but I tried to take deep breaths to calm me down.
How could he let her say that about my mother, his mate? My mother was a good woman. A good wife to him, and the best mother anyone could ever ask for. Everyone in our pack loved her and would always gush about her ethereal beauty and contagious smile. She was so kind and soft-spoken.
Before my mother fell ill, I had never heard her speak rudely to my father or even argue with him. She loved him so much, and it hurt me to see him quiet when his evil wife was saying s**t about her.
I was ready to leave, but not without hearing from the horse's mouth. Liam had been quiet all through the meeting, so asked if we could talk in private and he agreed.
As soon as we got to my room, I started bombarding him with questions.
“Liam, what was that about?” I was furious and couldn’t hold back my tears.
He did not look at me or even bother to answer my question.
“You can not do that to us. We’re mates for goddess's sake,” I tried to remind him.
“That’s what I thought until I saw you in that room that morning,” Liam retorted. “After that day, Kaitlyn would always visit to comfort me and see how I was doing. One thing led to another and now, we’re getting married.” He shrugged like it was not a big deal. “It was either that or my cousin became Alpha.” He reminded me.
I almost forgot that Liam wanted to get married to me for two reasons. One, because I was his mate and the other was because it was time for him to be crowned Alpha, but his father insisted that he get married first, or his married cousin would take the throne.
"Liam, I…" I tried to explain, but he cut me off.
“I already told you Ciara, I cannot marry a w***e” he spat.
I gave him a resounding slap. Liam knew more than anyone else that I was everything but a w***e.
He held his face and looked at me with cold eyes that sent shivers down my spine, but I wasn’t going to show how much his words affected me.
He looked at me with angry eyes and declared, “I, Liam Philips, next Alpha of the dungeon pack, reject you, Ciara Nicolas.”
I gasped. My heart was thumping like it was going to rip off my chest. My vision became blurry, my knees gave up, and I fell to the floor. The last thing I saw was Liam’s emotionless face, before everything turned black.
