Ciara’s POV
I slowly opened my eyes to see that I was still laying on the cold floor of my room. No one bothered to check on me or even take me to my bed.
The last time I felt this lonely and dejected was when I lost my mom. My mother was the light of my life and the one who made our family complete and loving. She was a very beautiful woman, with long brown hair, light blue eyes that were as clear as the ocean, slim waist and long legs. Mom was my world and I looked just like her.
I was completely shattered, but I knew I couldn’t stay here any longer so I got up slowly, walked to my wardrobe and packed a few clothes in my duffel bag and left my father’s house without turning back.
When I got back to Mia’s place, she was anxiously waiting for me.
“I was worried about you. Why did the meeting take so long?” Mia asked and the worried signs on her face were visible.
I sighed. I loved Mia so much because of how she loves and care about me. We’ve always had each other’s back since she lost her parent at a young age.
I narrated the whole story of how my meeting with my family went and she was as shocked as I was when I heard that my step sister and my ex fiancé were getting married.
“This b***h has no shame!” My best friend said.
“She was not alone there, you know,” I replied while going to the kitchen to get a glass of water.
Mia’s apartment was comfortable and warm. Mark made sure that she never lacks anything. He’s the absolute sweet guy and I’m glad that Mia had him to take care of her as much as she takes care of the people she loves.
“I hope his d**k gets eaten by rats in the night.” Mia said, drawing my attention back to her. She could be a sweet girl but she hates to see me hurt and upset.
I gulped down my water and dropped the glass on the kitchen counter.
“You know you can stay here for as long as you want,” my best friend continued since I was quiet.
“Thank you, but I do not want to be a burden to you.”
“Do you really want to go back to that house?” Mia gave me a puzzled look. I chuckled, leaning back on the counter top. I was not going back there. My family home was not so welcoming anymore.
“No. I’m going to moonlight for a while.” an idea just popped into my head.
My aunt Rebecca, mom’s older sister, was a member of the moonlight pack. Her husband, Robbin, who I called uncle Robb, was the beta of their pack. My aunt had been so worried about me and wanted me to go stay with her at moonlight but I could not go because of Liam. I think now is the right time to take her invitation since I have nothing left here and no one really cares about me except my bestie.
I missed my aunt so much, with uncle Robb and their daughter, kiara, who was my favorite and only cousin from my mom’s side of the family.
My cousin and I had a good relationship, just like my mom and hers. Though we hardly see each other, but we would call or text one another every chance we got. And I knew everything about her as well as she knew mine.
My friend did not look happy with my decision. “I’ll go and set your father’s house on fire.” Mia said, concerned.
“Let’s make it a plan b” I looked at my best friend and offered her a small smile.
”I still can’t believe your father agreed to all that though”
Mia shook her head thoughtfully.
“Me neither, but it is what it is.“ Luckily, I have Mia who listened and believed that I was innocent and also a family to go to in a pack that is more powerful and beautiful than ours.
“I wish you could stay here though, my house is always open for you. Besides, I owe you. My friend said,
That was true, but I’ll never pull that card on her.
When Mia lost her parents in a pack war, she was all alone and no one cared to help her except my mom and it’s because persuaded her to take Mia in and she accepted. So Mia stayed with us until my father remarried and she moved out to stay in the pack house. Thankfully, we had savings, which she used to care of herself and her basic needs until Mark came along.
I guess my friend took my quietness for an answer since she continued talking after a while. “I thought we would have more time together, but I’m happy for you. I have a strong feeling that the moonlight pack will be a good change for you. When are you leaving?”
“Tomorrow, I guess,” I chirped.
“Already?” She asked and pouted her lips.
“Yup!” I shrugged.
“That is quick. Will you stay with me tonight? Let’s make dinner together and watch our favorite movie?” Mia and I loved cooking and eating together.
“As if I have anywhere else to go.” I rolled my eyes at her before I added “I wouldn’t say no to a bottle of wine.”
It was my friend’s turn to roll her eyes, “ I knew it was all you cared about.” She giggled.
My thoughts drifted back to my aunt and her family. I was still so sad about my family’s betrayal, but I was elated to go to the moonlight pack. The last time I visited was when I was seven and I enjoyed it so much that I’ve always wanted to go there again, so I called my aunt to let her know that I’ll be coming to live with them for a while and she was so excited that I could hear it in her voice.
Since my bags were already packed, we proceeded to make a simple dinner. We made pasta and steak, with some homemade cupcakes for dessert.
After dinner, we freshened up and enjoyed our favorite movie with a bottle of red wine until we fell asleep.
