"Are you sure you want to do this? Because you don't have to." Sapheme whispered, leaning close to my ear. We were standing a bit away from the door while Wardrock and Gyaldor were chatting in the back. They held serious expressions as they spoke so I assumed that they were trying to come up with some sort of solution.
"I want to." I answered after a moment. Sapheme, in turn, gave me a small smile which I later returned, though it was more over on the sad side. "You guys certainly don't look like you're about to die," I pointed out, "you better not put too much faith in me. I never do things right."
She laughed half heartedly. "If things don't go as planned, we'll send you back to your world immediately." She promised.
"I'm not talking about me, Sapheme. I'm talking about you guys..."
"As long as you are safe, we will be at peace, even when we die." She said solemnly, eyes looking distant.
"Don't try to be cheesy. Think about yourself for once." I gave her a disapproving stare. "Are you not afraid of dying?"
"Everyone is...but my life is not that great a sacrifice for your victory. If that is the only way I can be of help, then I would be glad to die for your sake. I'm sure Gylador and Wardrock would say the same." She told me, a small smile on her lips.
How can someone say that they'd give up their life with a smile?
If only humans were the same...loyal and devoted to upholding peace. The world would've probably been a better place, a place that isn't filled with greed and disloyalty, a place that isn't corrupted by vehement human emotions. I'm not saying that it would be void of all cruelty and wickedness, but it would've been better, much better.
"Sire?"
I laid my thoughts aside and spun around when I heard Wardrock's soft call from behind.
"It's time to collect your weapon."
I rose a brow, confusion sparking within me. "Collect my weapon?" I questioned.
He stepped back a little, allowing view of the globe thing beside him. I mentally facepalmed. Even if they are clueless about anything else, they must know that something like that can't be used as a weapon. What the hell would I do with it? Throw it at Darkus's head?
That move doesn't seem promising.
"That's not exactly what we call a weapon where I'm from." I attempted to enlighten them.
"It's not a weapon. It's rather the bearer of weapons." Sapheme corrected. I could barely find it in me to be surprised. Surprises, surprises, surprises...that is basically all my life entailed of for the past two weeks. Anymore of it, and I might just die. "Within it, there are hundreds of weapons. The one given to you, is based solely on your fire levels and skills. Sphere, swords and arrows are the most common ones, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a weapon. It could be an advancement in strength, speed and other aspects or in rare cases, you gain the ability to summon powerful beasts to fight in your stead...your weapon is among the common...a sword."
Awe overtook my face. That's pretty cool! "How does it work? Does it just pop out a weapon whenever you ask?" I inquired, following behind Sapheme when she started to move closer.
At that, she stopped apruptly, causing me bump into her back. I glared at her and stepped to the side but when I moved to resuming walking, she retrieved a knife from the knife holster strapped to her leg and outstretched it toward me. "Basically you slit your thumb and say a few words to summon it."
Intrigued by their peculiar ways, I grinned lopsidedly and I grabbed the knife before taking two large steps that landed me right infront of the weapon bearer thingy. "Let's get to it then."
Not bothering to examine the freaky carvings on the hilt, I swiped the blade across my thumb and winced as blood started gushing from the wound. I moved to suck the blood from my finger but Sapheme gripped my wrist and easily slipped the knife out of my hold, shaking her head.
"The Xinox needs a drop of your blood in order to gauge the extent of your power. That is the reason for slitting your finger." She informed.
Oh so it's called the Xinox? Nice name. I hoisted my hand above it, blood trickled down my finger and dropped from the tip, falling unto the spherical top of the Xinox. After that single drop, ripples started to form.
Drawing my hand back, I looked to Sapheme once again, raising my brows as I eagerly waited for further instructions.
"Place your hand inside."
And that alone made my eagerness drop a notch as a wary feeling took residence.
"Sire, you are not in any danger." Wardrock tried to assure me, seeming to have seen my distress. I nodded at him. They wouldn't let anything bad happen to me, right? They love me! Their lives depend on me!
And with that mentality, I inched my arm closer, while my lower body jutted outwards in case fleeing becomes necessary. If anything happens, I'll pull my arm out and make a run for it.
As anticipation reached its pinnacle and excitement went on pending, I scrunched up my nose and turned my head away. In one swift but hesitant push, my hand went in. I was prepared to feel some sort of pain, but that ever happened, instead, it felt weirdly cold inside.
Appalled, I shifted my gaze back to the Xinox, eyes narrowing suspiciously. "Well, it feels cold." I announced, glancing at Sapheme for a split second.
"Really?" Sapheme asked, peeping over.
"What? Is that not normal?"
"I don't think so."
I didn't need to hear anything else to pull my arm out, but as my fingers were about to emerge, something grazed me. I did what I'd normally do in any other scary situations....screamed. I instantly pulled my hand out completely, only to be terrified by the black snake-looking creature that was latching unto my fingers. I flailed my arms around frantically, desperately trying to get it off me, but to no avail.
It slithered it's tail up my arm and tightened around my skin.
"What the f-" a cry of agony escaped my lips when I felt sharp teeth sink into my palm. The pain was gone as quick as it came and even when I realized that, I couldn't stop the screams. You can't blame me...something freaky just bit me!
"Sire?" Sapheme moved closer, eyes holding worry.
"It bit me!" I screamed, tripping over my own feet and falling to the floor as my chest heaved up and down rapidly.
"We know...but you need to calm down. The pain has already subsided."
I stiffened at her words, eyes finally taking its time to shift over to Wardrock and Gylador, only to see that they were already staring down at me, blank expressions planted on their faces.
Realizing that I might've looked a bit off in the head, I cleared my throat, "You should try to give a heads up next time." I brushed aside the hair that had fallen over my face and picked myself up from the floor.
Remind me never to wear a sleeveless tunic again...
"The design is a bit weird." Sapheme grasped my hand and brought it closer to her face, her scrutinizing gaze trapped on the marks scattered over my skin. The snake thing had dispersed, now it looked like a thousand miniature replicas bathed my skin.
"You're right." Gylador said as he and Wardrock came to stand beside Sapheme.
Before they too could have a closer look, I yanked my arm out of Sapheme's hold and brought it back to my side, eyes narrowing in annoyance. "Does it matter? I'm still waiting to see my weapon." I reminded.
Gylador sighed, shifting his eyes from my arm up to my face. "First, you give it a name then you press your finger to the centre of your palm and call it forth."
I'm supposed to give it a name? What name?
Seeing my struggle, Sapheme decided to help, "you can give it any name you want." She encouraged.
I nodded. "Well then, Fireblast seems like a good one." I could see that they were not impressed, yet they did not voice their disapproval so I gladly went ahead with it.
"Fireblast come forth."
Nothing happened.
"Fireblast come forth!" I raised my voice a little.
Nothing happened.
"Fireblaaaaas-"
"Sire, you need to say it like you mean it. It's not going to work if you speak as if you're calling your pet dog." Wardrock adviced.
"Fine." I rolled my eyes, "I; Kaiden Gart aka the reincarnation of Lucifer, calls upon Fireblast! Come forth before I loose my patience!"
I deepened my voice a little and basically screamed out those words yet once again, nothing happened.
I tsked, shaking my head in dissapointment, "Your Xinox here seems to be malfunctioning. I was really looking forward to-"
And then suddenly, a striking blue light glistened from my arm, cutting me off. My eyes widened as one by one, the tattoos started changing from black to blue to the point where the bottom half of my arm was unable to be seen. It was as if I had swallowed a light bulb.
Then as my heart began to race faster than ever before, in the blink of an eye, the blue light was gone and a weapon was in my grasp.
But the thing is, it wasn't a sword like they thought it would be...
It was a gun.
"Holy s**t!"
