Rebecca reached her house on time. She met her parents in the front of the house, smiling. “Hey Mom, Dad,” she greeted them both. They were both looking at their phones, Rebecca knew they had been waiting for her arrival. Her father looked up first, giving her a quick kiss on the head. They have been waiting for her to come back home since the day she left for Michael's house. She knew why, but it still hurt that her family hadn't wanted her with him. It hurt more than she would ever admit out loud.
She was about to turn around when her mother put a hand on her shoulder, stopping her. “Rebecca...we need to talk.” Rebecca looked into her mother's eyes and saw the sadness there.
“Is everything okay?” She asked cautiously. The last time Rebecca saw this look on her mother's face was when she found out Rebecca wanted to go away for college. But, things seemed different now.
Her mother sighed and nodded. “Your father and I have been talking. We want you to stay here with us.” Rebecca opened her mouth to protest, but her father cut in.
“We know how hard school is for you right now, honey. You've always wanted to get a college degree. But we would want you to attend the magical institution and finish learning how to control your power as a werewolf. You are still young enough to start college.” Rebecca felt herself starting to panic again, but she did her best to calm down.
It wasn't like this has been the first time they had asked her to go to the supernatural world with them; she had gone before, though, and she never got to see it again. Not because they had tried to stop her from going, but because they couldn't control her. They didn't want her around people that might attack or try to kill her. They didn't want her to get involved in dangerous situations. And they definitely didn't want to keep her hidden from their friends and family for who knows how long.
“I'll think about it,” Rebecca said after taking a deep breath. If she went to an exclusive high school, surrounded by other teenagers like herself, she knew that some of them will try to use her powers to hurt her or manipulate others. She doesn't want to risk anyone else getting hurt or manipulated because of her. So, if she can go to a normal university, she would be fine. “Thank you,” she added softly.
Her mother smiled brightly at her, reaching up and kissing her forehead one more time. Then she turned to hug her father tightly. “Come on inside. Dinner will be ready soon.” They walked into the house, Rebecca following behind silently. She knew they meant well, but she just couldn't do this.
After dinner and the dishes being washed, she headed towards her room, wanting to sleep. As she walked through the hallway, she heard the TV blaring loudly. Curious, she turned the corner and peeked her head out to see what was going on.
The TV was on a channel showing cartoons. Her father sat on the couch with his feet propped up on the coffee table. His phone was sitting forgotten next to him. Beside him, her mother stood in front of the stove, stirring something vigorously, not paying attention to whatever it was she was making.
Seeing her daughter standing there, her mother turned to look at her. Her smile instantly disappeared once she realized how close her daughter was standing to the television. “Rebecca! What are you doing? Come sit down, we're watching tv.” Rebecca hesitated, knowing that she shouldn't listen to her mother. But her curiosity got the better of her and she quickly made her way across the living room to where her mother was standing at the stove. She watched as her mother poured the contents into three bowls before setting them on the dining room table.
Taking a seat in between her father and mom, Rebecca picked up her bowl and smelled its contents. It smelt delicious. “What is it?”
“Dinner, of course! Now eat up. Your father and I worked hard today, so enjoy your dinner.” Rebecca nodded and shoveled the food in her mouth as fast as she could. She loved pasta and sauce on her dinner.
By the time Rebecca had finished her meal, there was hardly anything left in her bowl and she was already full. She glanced over and noticed both her parents eating almost as much as she did. Smiling, Rebecca started to dig in herself again.
“You really didn' take all that long to finish your dinner,” her mother commented. Rebecca shrugged and looked up at her mother. She had a weird expression on her face and she continued eating. Suddenly, her mother threw the rest of her plate onto the table and stormed off into the kitchen.
“Mom? Where are you going?” Rebecca called out. Her mother didn't answer, but a few seconds later, she came back out and picked up her phone. She then went to her bedroom, closing the door behind her. Rebecca frowned. Something must be wrong. She grabbed her bowl and left the kitchen, walking into her parent's room.
She knocked lightly on their closed door and waited for someone to open it. When no one answered, she opened the door and entered.
Her father looked up from his laptop as she walked in and he smiled. He had his headphones plugged into the computer and they were blasting music. There was a large book open to a page that was titled 'Werewolves'.
“Dad, what's going on? Why did Mom leave?” Rebecca asked curiously. Her father looked up at her.
“She's upset, honey. I'm sorry, but I don't know what happened. She said she was going to bed early tonight.” Rebecca frowned and he turned to look at her.
“Well, why did she get mad at me? I was just asking about the book.” Rebecca's father turned back to looking at the screen and shrugged. She sighed and walked out of the room, heading upstairs to her own. Once she was alone, she sat down on her bed and thought about what was happening. She figured her mother was still upset with her for wanting to go to Michael's house. Rebecca hated to admit it, but she understood why she was upset.
She didn't want to give up school, but she also didn't want to live in fear anymore. She wanted to learn how to control her magic so that she could use it without hurting anyone. She didn't want to hide who she was, and she didn't want to hurt anyone. She just wanted to be happy, and to finally feel free.

The next morning, Rebecca woke up and immediately checked her phone. She had received a text from Michael saying that they should meet at the same place they'd met yesterday. He didn't say why, and she didn't ask. She just replied with her yes and went downstairs to help her mother make breakfast.
As soon as Rebecca stepped outside, she breathed a sigh of relief. It had been such a beautiful day the previous night and she was hoping it would repeat itself today. After grabbing a bite to eat, she made her way back to the park. She felt nervous about meeting Michael again, but hopeful at the same time. She reached outside the park and a pack of werewolves went after her.
They weren't human. They were much larger, almost like wolves, except they had glowing red eyes and sharp teeth. Their fur was black and silky. They growled as they started to chase her, but she wasn't afraid. She knew they wouldn't hurt her. She ran faster than they could, dodging trees and bushes. After a while, she stopped running and stood still.
When the pack of werewolves spotted her, they laughed at her. She glared at them, but they just kept laughing. One of them snarled at her and she jumped back, trying to run away. Another one started to follow her, moving slowly. It took a few moments for Rebecca to realize that the wolf was actually coming closer to her, not away.
She gasped and backed up even more, raising her hands into the air protectively. The wolf lunged forward, going straight for her throat. She instinctively lifted her arms, blocking its way to her neck. All of a sudden, she felt sharp pain from her chest and her knees buckled. She fell backwards onto the ground as the wolf landed on top of her.
“No!” Rebecca screamed, as she struggled underneath the large animal. She kicked, punched, and bit the beast all over. But nothing seemed to work. It was too strong. She felt cold steel pressed against her throat. One of the werewolves pulled a knife out from its belt and held it against her skin.
“Stop! Don't hurt me! Please! I won't tell anyone! Please! Just let me go!” She begged, sobbing. The werewolf leaned down and whispered in her ear.
“Shut the f**k up, b***h. You ain't gonna say s**t to anybody. Not until we're done with you.” The werewolf released his grip on her throat, but she cried out anyway, feeling the pain all over again. She quickly scrambled to her feet and ran as fast as she could.
She got away from them that time, but she knew they would find her again. They always found her. The only thing she could do was run. Run away, and hope that she would eventually get to a safe place where they couldn't find her.

Rebecca's breathing was ragged as she ran through the woods. She had been running nonstop for nearly two hours now. The sun was starting to set and she was starting to get tired. She slowed her pace as she approached the edge of the forest, looking around for any sign of where she was. She found nothing, so she decided to continue walking in a different direction.
"Damn it!" A deep voice boomed behind her. She whirled around to see the alpha werewolf. He was slightly bigger than the rest of the pack, standing on his hind legs and staring down at her. "You stupid little girl. Running away like that. You think you can escape my pack?"
Rebecca didn't answer. She just stared up at him, tears streaming down her cheeks. She didn't know how to respond. She didn't have a choice. If she tried to fight back, she knew they would kill her. If she stayed quiet and continued to run, she knew they would catch her. She couldn't win; she needed to run. She just didn't know how far she could go.
The alpha sniffed loudly and walked towards her. He stopped when he was right in front of her, towering over her. She gulped nervously as she looked up into his dark red eyes. His lips curled up into a cruel grin. He reached out, stroking her cheek softly with one finger.
"We've been waiting for you, little girl." Rebecca shivered as he touched her. Her whole body was tingling from the touch of his hand. But she was scared to move. To stand up and run. She didn't know what else to do. So, she remained silent and continued to tremble on the spot.
He chuckled softly and placed his other hand gently on her shoulder. "It's ok, sweetheart. We'll take care of you. You're safe now."
Rebecca nodded and tried to calm herself down. The alpha to her that he would leave her now and let her go back home but she should he very careful on where ever she goes. "I-I will," she stuttered, finally finding her voice. She turned to walk away, but the alpha grabbed her arm and spun her around.
"Don't you dare try to run away from us again!". Ok she said.
