03~ Save Me.
Sophia✓
I was staring at the very face that gave me goosebumps. My increased heart seems to have eased a little, and I could feel my breath getting steady and calm. I found refuge in staring at him, like there was an invisible hope for me. A part of me felt relieved, but the fear was still in me. Could he be a kidnapper? Or a slave trader?
"Save me." The voice slipped out of my mouth as my eyes glared at the figure standing right before me.
He stretches his hand to me. I was scared to take hold of his hand, what if...?
Before my busy mind could think of anything else, I heard those soothing voices echo in my head. "It's alright, I'm not gonna hurt you." I felt a bit relieved at his voice, I stretched my hand, taking hold of him as he helped me stand to my feet. "What's your name?" He asked.
I was still shivering at the trauma of what happened, I was finding it hard to find my words. "You don't have to be scared, you're safe now." He said, like he already knows my reasons for being here.
"Sophia. My name is Sophia Slate." I replied.
I noticed the invisible smile in his lips. "It's gonna be alright, Sophia, you're safe now." He repeated the words, and they felt like ice water to my chest.
“You're safe now. You're safe now.” The words kept ringing in my mind like a repeated alarm. "You're safe now." I don't wanna imagine that I have found a helper, but some how, I feel like I have. He could be the one to help me, who knows? With such a tragic experience, can I ever find peace in this life of mine?
He held my hand as I walked slowly behind him. I don't know who this man is, but whatever he is, I feel safe under him. I feel like I am welcomed into his life, I feel like I have found a new home already. The moment I held his hand, I felt this spark move in me, like a car engine that has been started. The shivers, the goosebumps, the sparks, all for one man! Some one I have never met before.
We walked silently through the woods. After what took like minutes, we got to a small home. He lets go of me, "This is my home." He said in a cold voice.
He walked in but I stood back. He noticed I wasn't following him, he stopped, turning to look at me. "Is there a problem?" He asked.
"I can't go inside." I said, almost like a whisper.
"Why?" He asked.
I didn't say a word.
He approaches me, taking hold of my hand again. "Like I said earlier, I ain't gonna hurt you. You're safe with me." Still holding my hand, he led me into his home. "Father, we have a new guest." He announces.
The old Mr who was busy with his painting paused, turning to my direction. "Hey." He waved a welcoming smile at me. "Look what we have here."
I was thinking he'd yell at me or probably walk me away for walking into his home, or for meeting his son. But, he willingly welcomed me, just like his son did. "What's your name, Miss?" He asked, dropping his paint brush and color to the ground.
"Sophia Slate." I replied.
"Welcome, Miss Slate." He waved another smile at me, then he turned to his son. "How did you meet her?" He asked.
"I saw her in the woods, crying." He answered.
"Please, have a seat." I sat on the old fashioned couch, folding my palms to each other. "Well, my name is Bernard, and this is my son, Gerek." He introduced. "Mind for any thing?" He asked.
"No, thanks, I'm full."
He sat on the couch opposite mine, staring at me like he was studying me. "So, Miss Slate, mind telling me what happened?" He inquired.
I hesitated. The words were so heavy for me to say, and asking that question made me want to cry the more. I heaved heavily, holding back the tears. "They took my home, my family." I finally found the words.
"Who?" He asked.
"His name is Audrey, Alpha of the Moonlight Pack." I answered.
"Why did he take down your home?"
"My father made a deal with him years ago, he came back to take the deal. The only way to have his deal back is to take them into captivity. I was able to escape with the help of my mother. I don't know if she's alive, but there's fire burning in my home, my pack."
"What's the name of your pack?" He asked.
"Silver Stone pack." I answered, not knowing why he had asked me that. Could it be that he knows my pack? Or, could he be a werewolf in human form? I thought.
"Well, Miss Slate, I think you need to get some rest from the trauma, we'll continue this conversation tomorrow." I nodded my head. "Gerek, please take her to the guest room."
I followed the very man who made my heartbeat rise. I silently prayed it would be Mr Bernard himself who was to do the favor of showing me to a room, but it turns out to be him! I ain't a shy type, but since I met him in the woods, I can't really tell where the shyness is coming from. We finally got to a room, he opened the door, stepping in before me.
"You'll stay here for the meantime, I hope you feel welcomed." He said, those once upon a time domineering voices turned to a soft heartwarming one.
"Thank you, sir, I really appreciate it." I said in the softest way I can.
"You don't have to call me sir, it's Gerek." He corrects me.
"I'll keep that in mind." The way he smiled at me made my bones shiver. I don't know what he was doing to me, but he was doing it perfectly well, he was winning over my hardhearted heart. This very heart that knew no man, I could feel it growing excited for him.
Just a smile and it's more like a laugh. Gosh! I'm overthinking, right?
"Good night, Sophia." He said to me,
"Good night... Gerek." As soon as he left the room, I sat by the edge of the bed.
I feel at home.
