CHAPTER 5

Amelia’s white dress was a work of art, the silk fabric gracefully hugging her curves over her body. The silk fabric glinted in the light as the straps licked her skin, making her body more alluring. She had planned to wear something simple to the dinner but with her best friend, Selene, hyped up about the possibility of getting back together with her ex, made sure that she dressed most elegantly. Jacob’s eyes were locked onto Amelia so passionately as he remembered all the beautiful moments he spent with her which he so ignorantly took for granted. “I didn't mean to divorce you, Amelia.” “What’s that even supposed to mean?” Amelia’s eyebrows raised dismissively and her expression was a mask of disdain. “You humiliated me, Jacob. You made me feel worthless such that I had to leave the country. Just think about that.” Jacob’s heart was aching with pain. “I know, Amelia but it was all a mistake. I was overwhelmed by the death of my grandmother at that time and I really wasn't in my head. I need you, Amelia. I can't stay without you any longer.” Amelia’s body language was still displaying dismissiveness. “Too bad, I don't believe you. In fact, I think you might be worse than you were before and still a liar. You treated me like trash even before your grandmother passed. You never really saw my value throughout our marriage.” Jacob’s face was a scowl of annoyance because his phone had been vibrating with incessant calls while in the intense moment with Amelia. How on earth would someone call so repeatedly at such an important time he had spent five years waiting for? “Please, forgive me. Am I excused to pick up this call and return right away?” Jacob asked, his face feeling sorry to have disrupted such an important moment. Amelia nodded and Jacob went on his way to pick up the annoying phone call. Immediately Jacob left, a young lady wearing a crochet dress walked by but her heels got caught underneath her and she stumbled unexpectedly, the wine content of her cup pouring on Amelia’s white silk dress. “Damn it!” Amelia gritted her teeth in frustration, her heart heavy with grief and resentment as her fingers frantically rubbed off the stains in a bid to salvage the dress. Amelia’s once beautiful silk white dress was now marred with various red spots of wine stains that seemed to transform the whole elegance of the dress into ruin. The more Amelia tried to wipe off the stains, the more they smeared her dress the more. Amelia turned her gaze gaze to the lady and instead of apologising, her face was a mask of defiance as her eyes flashed with a stubborn pride. “Are you blind?” The lady spoke with hatred. “Why would you stick out your leg? That’s what you get for being lost.” Amelia’s face burned with anger. “What?! Are you kidding me? Who the fvck are you to speak to me like that after staining my dress? Do you know who you are talking to?” The lady’s voice was sharp and unyielding. “You damn wh**e! The real question here is who do you think you are? Tell me!” “You know what? Neither of us is leaving here until you pay the exact amount for this dress and it costs seven hundred thousand dollars for your information. You are such a dimwit and today, you would pay for this dress,” Amelia fired back. The lady’s face hardened with rage as the insult got to her. In a quick burst of motion, she swung her hand aggressively in an attempt to land a powerful slap on Amelia’s cheeks. Jacob appeared as if from nowhere, his body moving with the swiftness of a tiger as he intercepted the woman’s arm in the middle of the strike. Amelia was frozen as Jacob took control of the situation, chasing the lady away with the force of his wrath. Jacob then turned towards Amelia, his eyes filled with unwavering love and his hands caressing her hair with a protective touch. “Hey, Amelia, are you okay? Are you hurt? Did she do anything to you?” His questions tumbled out in a rush as he accessed Amelia’s body for any signs of damage or hurt. “No, I’m good babe,” Amelia responded. She didn't know when the word ‘babe’ dropped from her mouth and her cheeks blushed in a slight embarrassment. Amelia’s eyes shone with a radiant glow and she stared deeply into Jacob’s gaze, her body at ease as she struggled with the temptation of nestling into Jacob’s chest. Jacob, realizing that her dress was badly brushed against Amelia’s cheeks with a tender caress, slipped off his coat and gently draped it over her, his eyes glowing with a passionate light. Amelia’s breath caught in her throat as she felt Jacob’s tender care. She didn’t know why she was so moved, especially after she had vowed that her heart was forever going to be close to him. Amelia noticed that Jacob was no longer the jerk he used to be and even though she didn't want to admit it, she was compelled to. Both Jacob and Amelia strutted out of the restaurant hand-in-hand as they basked in the beauty of the moment. *** Oliver had been put in the dark as he didn't know about Amelia’s whereabouts. He called his spies in Jacob’s company to ask about Amelia but they all told him that neither Jacob nor Amelia were around. Oliver became restless as he thought the worst had happened - that Amelia and Jacob had been reunited. Oliver started going around strategic locations together with his surveillance experts who were skilled at tracking people’s whereabouts. They soon stopped at the exact location where Jacob and Amelia were. Oliver’s eyes burned with a jealous inferno as he watched Amelia coming out of the restaurant, her face alight with tenderness as Jacob wrapped his arm around her shoulder. Oliver’s face hardened with a bitter and possessive rage as he slammed his fist into the door panel of his vehicle. “Damn it!” The experts with him were shaken by the fiery demeanor of their boss. “What shall we do, boss? Should we get her kidnapped? It seems to be the best line of action at this point,” One of them suggested.
