The offer❤️✨
chapter 1
---
The café was packed with people, but Lara was too tired to care. The strong scent of coffee mingled with the distant chatter, and she was just so over it all.
* Balancing a tray of coffee and a muffin, she tried to dodge a few people, but her tired eyes failed to notice the figure in front of her until it was too late. (Crash.)
> The coffee splashed across the table — and directly onto a suit that screamed wealth.
> Lara’s eyes widened.
> She wasn’t prepared for this — especially not the man standing in front of her, whose steely gaze locked onto hers with intensity that made her heart race.
> He didn’t flinch. Didn’t even blink. His jaw tightened as the hot coffee dripped onto the edge of his dark jacket.
> “Watch where you’re going,” he said, his voice low, smooth, with a dangerous edge.
>
> Lara blinked, completely thrown off by his presence. *That voice*. *Those eyes.* There was no softness in his features, no kindness. Just sharp angles and ice-cold power.
>
> “I’m sorry, but this isn’t exactly how I imagined meeting a billionaire CEO,” she shot back, struggling to hide the fact that she was suddenly aware of how close they were.
> He smirked, a cocky glint flashing in his eyes.
>
> “Is that what you think I am?” His voice dropped even lower, almost a whisper, as his gaze traveled down her body — slow, deliberate.
> The tension was so thick she could almost taste it.
> “Not at all,” she said, her voice shaking just slightly. “But you definitely look like trouble.”
scene 2
> Lara wasn’t sure what she expected from this man, but it definitely wasn’t the magnetic pull she felt in his presence.
> She stood frozen for a moment, trying to hide her unease behind a fake smile.
> He wasn’t the type of guy she usually bumped into at a café — *or* anywhere. His tailored suit screamed wealth and power. His eyes, dark and unreadable, held something else entirely.
>
> He took a step closer, and Lara's pulse raced — she cursed her body's betrayal. She was *not* supposed to be attracted to this man.
>
> “You look like you could use a little excitement in your life,” he murmured, his voice low, almost teasing.
>
> The words hit her like a punch to the gut. Was he flirting with her?
> “Excitement?” she scoffed, trying to mask the way her heart skipped a beat. “What does someone like you know about excitement?”
>
> He leaned in just enough to make her breath hitch. His cologne, something rich and earthy, filled her senses, but it wasn’t just the scent that had her attention. It was the way he was looking at her, like he was seeing right through her.
>
> “More than you think, sweetheart,” he said, his voice dripping with confidence. “And I’m offering you some. But it’s going to cost you.”
>
> Lara felt her stomach flip. “Cost me?”
>
> “Yes.” His gaze darkened. “A deal. You’re good with deals, aren’t you, Lara?”
>
> She froze. “How do you know my name?”
>
> “I know a lot about you.” He didn’t seem to be joking.
>
> “That’s… unsettling,” she said, trying to recover.
>
> “What’s more unsettling,” he said, stepping even closer, “is what I’m about to offer.”
> His lips curled into a grin that made her heart race. “How does a fake engagement sound?”
>
> Lara blinked, not sure if she’d heard him right.
> “A what?”
>
> “A fake engagement. I need a fiancée. You need money. It’s a match made in heaven.”
>
> “I’m not sure that’s how this works,” she replied, her head spinning. But the thought of money — *real* money — was hard to ignore.
>
> “Think about it,” he said, brushing past her and placing his card on the table. “I’ll give you more than enough to change your life. All you have to do is say yes.”
*Scene 3 –
> Lara sat alone at the bus stop, the edge of Ethan’s business card still warm between her fingers.
>
> She stared at the sleek print — black ink, minimalist design, and his name: *Ethan Thorne.*
> It sounded like the type of name that had its own Wikipedia page… and probably owned the page too.
>
> Her rent was overdue. Her phone barely worked. She’d skipped lunch again — third time this week.
>
> *A fake engagement?*
>
> She scoffed, stuffing the card in her bag like it had burned her. No way. That’s not real life. That’s the kind of crap people wrote novels about.
> > *Not with those eyes,* she thought bitterly.
>
> Her phone buzzed, dragging her out of her thoughts. A text from her landlord: *“24 hours. Or you’re out.”*
>
> Lara closed her eyes, shoulders sinking. Life wasn’t just kicking her — it was stomping.
>
> She didn’t even hear the engine roll up until a sleek black car stopped in front of her.
>
> The window rolled down.
>
> “Still thinking about it?”
>
> That voice.
>
> Lara turned, stunned to see *Ethan* behind the wheel. A billionaire. Driving himself. In a car that probably cost more than her life.
>
> She stood slowly. “Are you stalking me now?”
>
> He smirked. “I prefer the term ‘persistent.’”
>
> “That’s what serial killers say.”
>
> “Lucky for you, I’m only dangerous in the boardroom.”
>
> Lara bit her lip — not from fear, but to stop the smile threatening to rise. This man was infuriating… and fascinating.
>
> “So?” he asked, resting one arm on the steering wheel, eyes locked on hers. “Are you ready to change your life?”
>
> She hesitated. “What’s the catch?”
>
> His expression darkened just slightly — enough to make her nerves spark.
>
> “You’ll live in my world,” he said quietly. “My terms. My rules. No falling in love. No getting attached.”
>
> “You think I’d fall for you?” she laughed, too loudly.
>
> He leaned in just slightly. “You’d be surprised how often that happens.”
> Lara’s breath hitched.
>
> She wanted to scoff. To roll her eyes and laugh it off like his ego was a joke — but the truth was, her throat had gone dry.
>
> Because he wasn’t wrong.
>
> There was something about Ethan Thorne that made reality blur. He was the kind of man who could unravel you without ever touching you.
>
> Lara forced herself to speak. “I’m not some girl you can buy with a bank transfer and a few intense stares.”
>
> Ethan leaned back slightly, amusement flickering across his sharp features. “Then name your price.”
>
> She blinked. “Excuse me?”
>
> “Let’s be honest, Lara. You’re considering this because you need out. And I’m giving you a door.”
>
> “A door into what, though?” she asked, her voice cracking slightly. “Your world? Your rules?”
> “Exactly.”
> “And I’m just supposed to play the part? Smile for the cameras, wear the ring, stand by your side like—what? Your trophy?”
>
> He tilted his head. “Not a trophy. A partner. But one I can walk away from when the deal ends.”
>
> Lara’s heart pounded. This wasn’t a fairy tale. It wasn’t even a fantasy. It was a transaction dressed up in temptation
> And she was dangerously close to saying yes.
>
> “How long?” she whispered.
>
> “Six months.”
>
> “And then you vanish?”
>
> “No attachments. No strings.”
>
> She looked away for a long moment, watching as people passed by the street. Ordinary lives. Simple problems. She didn’t have that luxury anymore.
>
> Lara turned back to him. Her voice was quiet, but steady.
>
> “Then we have a deal.”
>
> Ethan said nothing for a second. Then he reached into his pocket, pulled out a small black box, and opened it.
>
> Inside, a diamond ring glinted like a threat.
>
> Lara stared at it. “You carry that around?”
>
> He smiled. “I was prepared to be persuasive.”
>
> “You’re insane.”
>
> “No,” he said softly. “I’m committed.”
>
> She took the ring, slipped it onto her finger with trembling hands — and the moment it clicked into place, her entire life shifted.
>
> Ethan reached for her hand, his touch cool and controlled.
>
> “Welcome to the beginning of the end, Lara.”
> And with that, the gates to his mansion opened — wide, ominous, and waiting.
