Melissa held her neck once again, gently rubbing the skin around it as she recounted the past hour's event. Funny how she still felt choked. It was like she could still feel his rough palms wrapped around her neck and the thought made her shudder.
With a big sigh, her eyes dropped to the heap of plates on the sink and she shook her head. It had been more than an hour since the event occurred yet she had been unable to do anything since she returned, all she had been able to do was think about how close she was to losing her life.
Melissa couldn't remember when last she had been this scared. She had been so scared, thinking she would die. She had seen the death in his cold eyes and she was sure he would never have stopped if that lovely lady had not called his name.
This thought brought shivers down Melissa's spine. She sure must have underestimated Jordan Gomez and she was grateful the blonde had walked at that moment.
The blonde had saved her life even when she had no idea who she was. It was obvious Jordan and his guard knew her very well, why then would he stop at the sound of her voice? Were they related? Were they friends or were they lovers?
Melissa could remember how the blonde had gotten defensive when she had called Jordan crazy. What relationship did those two have?
"Well, it's none of my business," Melissa muttered as she rubbed her bruised neck again. That asshole! Not only was he an inconsiderate jerk, but he was also a crazy hoodlum.
The image of her dumping the garbage can on his head flooded her mind and before she could stop herself, she was giggling uncontrollably.
It was honestly a hilarious sight to see and Melissa knew she had touched some raw nerves by doing that to him. It made her feel so satisfied and she found herself wishing she could get another chance to do much worse.
This time around, she would push his head into the can and make sure he had a filled day inhaling trash.
Melissa chuckled again, enjoying her thought too much. But she soon stopped when she heard footsteps. Her heart leapt and she immediately turned to the plates, taking up the sponge and soap to start washing.
She was sure it was Madam Riela coming to check up on her. Maybe she should give the woman her own share of garbage just as she had done to Jordan. Melissa chortled.
The footsteps were now close and Melissa turned around to see if her guess had been right but she froze when she saw Louis instead. He was standing by the kitchen door, his grey eyes filled with fury as he stared at her.
Why was he here? What had he come to do to her?
Melissa's heart had now begun to pound in her chest and she clutched the side of her dress, willing herself to calm down.
"What can I do for you?" She tried to keep her voice straight but it came out squeaky.
"You know why I'm here. Do you think you would go free after doing what you did? I told you not to do anything stupid. I told you not to act smart. Haven't you got any fear?" He began to walk toward her and Melissa immediately grabbed the knife lying in the pile of dirty dishes.
"Stay back!" She yelled. "Stay away from me or I'll hurt you!" She brandished the knife at him, her hand shaky as she did this.
"Drop that knife and don't complicate issues. You know you were wrong." Louis told her, slowing his pace.
"How am I in the wrong? You guys brought me here against my will. When did I tell you I wanted to be a labourer or since when did being a slave become so desirable? Do you guys realise what you're doing and how what you're doing can get you into trouble? I could file a complaint about this and get you both arrested!" Melissa tried to pass a threat but she gasped when Louis began to laugh.
The huge bearded man held his tummy as he laughed.
"You think we kidn*pped you? So gullible." He shook his head.
"What do you mean?" Melissa was confused but before she knew what was happening, Louis was already by her side, holding her hand. How he had gotten there, she didn't know. He had been quick like the speed of lightning.
"Let me go!" She struggled with him as he pried the knife out of her grip with ease.
Still holding her by the wrist tightly, he tossed the knife to the sink.
"Let me go, you bastard!" Melissa spat, trying to pull her arm under his iron-like grasp.
"Shut up, b***h!" He held her by the hair, gripping her long ginger strands tightly. Melissa screamed out in pain.
"I should ram your head to the wall for what you did to Jordan." He whispered in a deathly tone, holding both of her arms to the back with just one of his and pulling at her hair with his other hand. Melissa felt pain all over and tears stung her eyes.
"He deserved it and more." She spoke through gritted teeth, trying to stay brave. There was no way she was going to apologise for what she did because she wasn't sorry at all. If she had the chance, she would do worse.
"Oh yeah?" Louis snickered, tightening his grip on her hands.
"You're hurting me."
"Am I? I haven't even started anything." He snickered once again as he began dragging her out of the kitchen.
"What are you doing? Where are you taking me to?"
"Shut up, slave!"
"You have no right to call me a slave because you're also a slave. You've been a slave all your life and you'll forever be while I'll leave you because I won't be here forever." Melissa bit back and Louis' eyes narrowed into slits, the muscles in his jaw ticking.
"You know how to talk smart, huh? I'll make sure you regret everything you've just said."
"Help!" Melissa screamed at the top of her voice. There was no way she was going to follow him anywhere.
"Shut your mouth, you wench!" Louis spat but she ignored him.
"Help!"
Why was the house so quiet? Why wasn't anyone coming to help her? Couldn't they hear her voice?
"Help! I'm being - "
She couldn't complete her statement because Louis' huge palm had now covered her mouth. Struggling to break free from his hold, Melissa bit his palm and he pulled his hand in pain.
Using this to her advantage, she kicked him in the balls and attempted to run away but Louis caught her by the arm, dragging her back and slapping her across her face. She yelped.
"You crazy b***h!" He seethed, groaning in pain as he dragged her by the hair again.
"If you know what is good for you, you will cooperate. Shout all you want. No one will come for you because this is Jordan's order and no one defiles the boss' order. You got that?"
Melissa shut her eyes tightly, biting her lips as she tried to shut out the pain from her mind. He was really pulling at her hair and she was sure her scalp was injured now
"You got that?" He yelled into her face, spittle flying out of his mouth and landing on her face. Melissa cringed, tears slipping out of her tightly shut eyes.
"Yes."
"Good! Now stay put like the good slave you are." He said as he pulled her by the arm.
As they walked, people stared at them but no one confronted Louis for dragging a woman roughly. Instead, they turned a blind eye to it, acting like nothing was going on. Melissa' felt anger fill her head as she walked behind him.
She was beyond pissed and it was even more infuriating that she could not do anything. Just how much power did these guys have over her? Why was she being treated like trash by everyone here?
Louis took her to the big building by the right-hand side of the mansion and he dragged her to the end of the lobby where a room was situated. He pulled a key out of his pocket and unlocked it, dragging her with him as he walked in.
Melissa's heart was now slamming hard in her ribcage as they entered the dark dusty room. Louis switched on a torch she hadn't known he had been with and she cringed at the numerous cobwebs hanging on the ceilings and walls.
The room looked like it had been abandoned and there was dirt all over. It was a small empty room with just a window. There was no furniture, no appliance, absolutely nothing in the room.
"Why are we here? What are you trying to do?" She croaked, her voice strained with heavy emotion. She hoped it wasn't what she was thinking. She wondered how she would escape if it was.
"The boss asked that I lock you up with no food or water. This is what you get for overstepping your boundary. Next time, you will think before doing anything foolish." Louis smirked, pushing her to the floor so she fell to the dirt.
"Yeah, with the dirt. That's where you belong." He blurted out, before slamming the door to her face and walking away.
Melissa's face fell as she remained on the floor in the darkroom. She gritted her teeth, her eyes stinging with tears but she was resolute. She would not cry.
