Deception Unveiled
Chapter 1
Remi’s pov
“Babe I'm sorry looks like you'll have to cancel our dinner reservation, my business trip has been extended by 2 weeks,” my boyfriend of 2 years, Rico , send to me even though I had already tracked his location before I called him and I knew damn well that he was now in New York I played along with his little shenanigans.
“Is that so? What a bummer!” I said as I searched for my car key in my bag while holding the phone with the other hand, by the time I was done he had blabbed out a couple more stupid excuses for why he couldn't be here and how he was going to make it up to me.
“It's okay, honey, I understand so you don't have to beat yourself up about it anymore,” while I was speaking to him my hands were gripping the wheel off my car so tightly that my knuckles were looking whiter than bed sheets.
“I know that you are working so that we can finally buy our own house,”
Lying through my teeth hurt, it wasn't bad enough that he wasn't even on a business trip. I’d found out a while back that he wasn't employed at the company he claimed to be working at, let's just say a friend of a friend gave me concrete evidence that the position he claimed to be comfortably occupying was already been held by someone else and for several years.
Maybe I could have seen this comment if I hadn't been so desperate to get over my ex, he'd broken up with me after telling me that he found someone ‘better’ so I did one anyone else could have done it that situation, got dolled up in my sluttiest outfit and got plastered at the cheapest club I could find which lead to a one night stand with my current boyfriend.
I thought I would be like girls in romance novels who would have a one night stand with a mysterious guy who had all the looks and power in the palm of his hand, but my boyfriend's looks when nothing to write home about and even though he claims to be working on big projects I had recently discovered that he didn't even have a job in the past two years.
But what that bastard lacked in looks and money he made up with charm, before I could blink here already found his way into my apartment with his luggage and was living with me only 3 months into the relationship and despite me carrying all the household responsibilities even after coming back from work he still had the audacity to cheat!
I made a turn on the road, my anger boiling to the point of eruption. He’d asleep some nights back and I had unlocked his phone by pressing his finger against it and that when I saw it several text with several women, one of them happened to be in New York which explained his ‘business trip’
Tonight, after my shift had ended I was going to bust him and end this sham of relationship.
It was already over and there was not going back.
“Girl you look like dead all warmed up, what happened?” My coworker at the coffee shop said when she saw me, I dragged my feet in putting on my uniform and finally came to answer her with a dejected tone.
“I'll be breaking up with my boyfriend today,”
I waited for something some kind of reaction from her and what she did first was to go and check on the coffee beans before coming back to respond to me.
“Sure you are,” there was a sarcastic jab inside her voice and I couldn't ignore it.
“Hey I mean it I'm really going to break up with him, aren't you even going to ask why?”
She shrugged in response, “You've already told me why a dozen times over, and you've gotten back together with him even more than that so I don't know why you keep bringing this up,”
Shame painted my face and I wanted to hide it away, to burrow into the ground and just protect myself like an ostrich.
It was true that I kept for giving Rico over and over again even after he would disappoint me, he hadn't cheated before but everyone's in a while I would come back home and see the laundry had piled up into a tiny hill, there was a dish in the sink that had been there for days and loads of beer bottles which was the only thing he contributed into the fridge with little to no grocery.
Then after that I would stomp to work and tell Cassie that I was finally going to end things with him, she would cheer me on and tell me that I deserved better only for me too clock in the next day with a sheepish expression on my face as I fiddled with my fingers and explained that we had ‘talked it out’
Now I knew she had it up to her neck with my nonsense and I couldn't blame her.
“I know I've messed up a lot in the past for a minute this time I'm ready going to break up with him and move on with my life,”
“Okay, I'll give you the benefits of doubt.” She said and then her eyes shifted to the front door.
“Oh, he's hot,”
And I had to admit she was right it was a guy wearing a black leather jacket that covered his hands but little to nothing to cover how muscular they were as they bulged beneath the fabric.
His movements were self assured, not too fast and not too slow just at the perfect pace before he casually came up to us well to me and said.
“I'd like a cup of coffee, black no sugar…”
His voice was not disappointment either, and his eyes. I had to remind myself that he was just here for coffee and nothing else.
He left after getting his coffee and I thought I will never see him again but what I didn't know, was how wrong I was.
