A bad friend.

Claudia; I laid waiting in bed, Josh was unusually late, he had seemed so distant lately. The street light peeked through the curtains, highlighting the empty space beside me. I had never felt so lonely. My eyes wondered around the room, landing on the alarm clock. 11.45pm. What is he doing, I felt an anger boil inside me. How could he just not come home! I had been working my self to the bone for the church and he is out gallivanting all around! I rolled over with a huff, almost not noticing the bedroom door squeek open. He moved silently around, climbing carefully into bed. I rolled, my deathly glare burning holes into his. " About time you would show up." I huffed. He reached his arm out to touch my face, I pulled away. " Baby, I was busy. I have taken up the late shift." He pleaded with me. " Oh" Was the only word I could form. His hand fell to my cheek, his thumb slowly moving up and down, comforting me. " I just want to give you everything you deserve, Claudia. Please forgive me. The next little while will be tough, but we can make it, I am sure of it." As I laid there, in disbelief, what could of lead to this, why did he feel this need? I wasn't complaining, oh on the contrary, I wanted more money and night's definitely paid more. I placed my hand ontop of his. " Thank you my love, we won't regret this." We drifted off into a peaceful sleep. His one of pure exhaustion, mine one of content and happiness. My wildest needs would be met! I was so happy with this latest development. The morning sun beamed through the curtains, I woke with a grin plastered across my face. " Wake up sleepy head." I shook Josh, only to recieve inaudible groans. "I am cooking us all breakfast before church, you best be getting up soon!" I huffed as I left the room. The bacon sizzled in the pan, Lucy and Luc, popped their heads around the corner. " Breakfast is almost ready." I chirped. Lucy's eyes lit up. " Oh wow, thanks Claudia, we are going out though." a scowl made its way across my face. " You never make time for me anymore Lucy! You are a bad friend! Now look, I am going to have all this left over food. How selfish can you be?!" I watched as tears filled Lucy's eyes, Luc's mouth open in shock. I continued to spurt out nasty insults, I couldn't stop the words flowing from my mouth. Pointing a finger into Lucy's chest I boomed. " Dont you dare think we haven't noticed your changes Lucy! You only care about you, about your pride, as long as poor little Lucy feels good everyone else suffers! You don't even go to church anymore. Wouldn't your dear parents be ashamed of you. I...." "Stop this now!" Josh's voice commanded behind me. He stood, bleary eyed in the doorway behind me. I turned, flinging myself into his chest. " Lucy doesn't appreciate our hospitality. It's just wearing me down...I..." I wailed into his shirt. " Well Lucy and Luc will leave." his nonchalant tone shocked me. He turned and headed back to the bedroom. leaving all of us confused and dazed. I couldn't believe it had come to this. I was devastated, unfortunately not because of a lost friendship, hardly, they gravy train was pulling up at the station and I was getting off it. How could I make that money up now? Lucy; " Well Lucy and Luc will leave then." Josh has said, not a hint of emotion in his voice. My jaw could not open any wider. Luc stood shocked beside me, his strong hand around my waist, thankfully or I may have fallen over. He turned and left the room. Claudia had been different lately, but this was so unexpected. I had thought that Josh liked us, that we had paid our way and shown how greatful we were. I guess I was wrong. " Lu.." Claudia started, before I cut her off. " Don't you DARE Lucy me!" I bellowed. " " you may have noticed my changes, but you fail to see your own shortcomings. Just leave me alone, we are done. From this moment on we are no longer friends." I turned and stormed off into the room, throwing the empty suitcase onto the bed. Luc followed closely behind. Standing behind me, his hands placed firmly on my hips, he kissed my neck and whispered in my ear. " We will be ok Lu, If we have each other, we have everything." My heart skipped a beat, he was always so hot and cold. I just never knew where we were at. Could I possibly live my life this way? I guess for the moment I would have to. Luc was all I had now. I flipped the weeks board money onto the dresser and headed towards the door. Nothing a teary eyed Claudia sitting alone on the lounge. We exchanged glares, before I pulled the heavy wooden door shut! A familiar feeling of grief hit me like a wave. Tears fell down my cheeks. For the second time this year I had no where to go. No one to save me. I leant into Luc's warm embrace. I had to trust that he would know what to do. " Luc, I am sorry it came to this." I managed between tears. It hurt to have your best friend kick you to the curb. It hurt my pride more so. It was embarrassing. " It wasn't your fault." His thumb traced my cheek. " Claudia displayed such horrible behaviour back there. If anything, it's her greed that has done this." His voice helped dissipate the anxiety that bubbled within. He grabbed my hand and lead me foward. " Come on baby, I know where we can go." His sudden pet name sent a pang of excitement through me. I hoped this was him warming to the idea of a real relationship.
