1: You're a legacy
Lavena City, 8. pm A white taxi parked in the front of Lux Hotel. A young girl in her teens stepped out of the vehicle. Adorned in a beautiful white strapless mermaid dress. She clutched a white handbag to her side and watched the building come into view. Her long hair was left to loosely bounce on her shoulder. She wore light makeup that slightly brought out her features. Her crescent eyes stared softly at the doors of the hotel. Her feet were raised above the ground by her white heels. She looked like a pure angel dressed in white from head to toe. The innocence radiated off of her strongly. The young girl walked over to the door. Her finger poised on the doorknob. She nervously pushed the door open and elegantly traipsed into the room. She hurried to the second floor where a massive coming-of-age party was being thrown for the werewolf prince. Her aura was calm and composed. As per the king's order, all the young werewolf girls from all the packs were ordered to attend. For the true-born alpha to choose his mate. A mandatory order that gave no space for one to miss the party. Hence she came to Lux Hotel. The soft music coming from the ballroom caught her attention. The doors were wide open, she could spot more girls her age or older conversing with each other in the room. She gulped. Her eyes scanned the room to find any familiar face. "Jhessail Kroft, you are here," a sweet voice drew her attention to the snack table. The young lady veered her head in the direction of the voice. Maintaining poise and grace. She smiled at her sweet best friend munching on the delicacies on display. Jhessail made her way to the snack table through the crowd. "It's nice to see you here, Yoli," she kissed her best friend on the cheek. "I assumed you'd be at your grandmother's place." "Flew back to Lavena to attend today's party. Not that I'm hoping the prince chooses me but can you imagine going to school on Monday as the princess of Lavena," Yoli happily let out. "I want the rest of my school year to be peaceful and drama-free. Being the princess of Lavena isn't peaceful or drama-free," Jhessail claimed. She dished herself a plate of macaroons. "Let's find a table by the corner," Yoli suggested. She shared the same sentiments as Jhessail. Having the attention of all of Lavena city is stressful. They found a table at the back. Away from the eyes of the ton and the guests. A peaceful place where they could talk by themselves and forget about the reason for the party. "I wish I could find my mate this year. I want love in my life," Yoli cried out stuffing her face with food. "That's the hunger talking," Jhessail added some macaroons to Yoli's plate. The girl smiled happily and pulled the plate close to her. Jhessail watched the young werewolves from all over the city mingle in the room. Each of them dressed to impress in their way. Nervously waiting for the prince to make an appearance at the party and charm their way to his heart. She wished that one of them caught the attention of the prince of Lavena. To give the rest of them a chance to live normal, simple lives. "What happens when you meet your mate and he rejects you?" Jhessail raised a question to her friend. "It could be a she," Yoli pointed out. "And I'm too cute to get rejected," she added. Jhessail smiled. Her friend's confidence was as big as her appetite. Looking at her friend, she wished she could be that secure. The possibility of meeting her mate terrified her. "Jhess, with the prince coming to Lavena high after finding a mate. Do you think our lives will change?" Yoli paused. She cast a worried look at Jhessail, looking to get a friend to assure her that everything will remain the same as it's always been. "It will remain as it's always been. But just in case...," she raised her hand and showed Yoli her crossed fingers. "Already beat you to it," Yoli raised her crossed fingers in the air too. Jhessail and Yoli laughed. It was a childish belief that crossed fingers would prevent their fears from coming true. A belief they've held onto since childhood. "No bad omen is getting both our crossed fingers," Jhessail uttered. Her voice shaking slightly. A voice in her head was telling her that she was fooling herself and her friend. She held her stance and went back to watching the other girls in the room. Jhessail pressed her lips tightly together. Worried about what the night had in store for her. Her insides were in knots at the suspense the night held for her. With no knowledge of the future, she was stuck in the moment wondering about what would go down. She hoped the prince would find a mate on the other side of the city. Nowhere close to her pack or her friend circle. To avoid attracting unwanted attention to herself. "I'll go get us more snacks," Yoli excused herself after wrapping up the food on the table. Jhessail nodded to show that she heard her. A few minutes after Yoli leaves the table. A young lady in a red gown approached Jhessail with a sweet smile plastered on her face. "Hi, I'm Thea Stodge," she introduced herself. Stretching her hand forth in the air. "Jhessail Kroft," Jhessail shook Thea's hand. "Any relation to the famous Alpha of the Moonridge pack, Edgar Kroft," Thea's eyes lit up with curiosity. "He's my father," Jhessail replied getting up from her seat. Thea's jaw dropped. Her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets from shock. Caught off guard by Jhessail's identity. "You are a legacy, a royal!" Thea didn't know whether to bow or curtsey. "Your father's legacy is legendary," Thea admitted. "He set the bars so high, I find it's better to be ordinary than try to outshine him," Jhessail disclosed. "You can call me Jhess," she urged Thea. Thea gave her a nervous smile. When she approached Jhessail, she assumed that she and Yoli were ordinary werewolves forced into the glamorous world of royals like her. Little did she expect Jhessail to have royal blood. A legacy of one of the greatest bloodlines in existence. "You are one of the few here that have a shot at being the prince's mate," Thea let out. "I hope no..." a buzz from her handbag attracted Jhessail's attention away from Thea. She took out her phone and checked the caller ID. 'Dad' "Excuse me," Jhessail made a move for the back exit of the ballroom. The door leads her to the corridor, she walks to the room at the far end. Opens the door and steps in. She received the call once she made it inside the room. "Yes, Dad," she answered. "Did you make it to the party on time, princess?" her father questioned. "Did you meet the prince? Do you like him? How did he find your dress? He must think you are the prettiest girl in the room, right?" Jhessail listened to her father patiently. He sounded like a hormonal teenager excited to talk about boys and dresses. She found it amusing. "I made it to the party on time. No, I haven't met the prince as he is yet to make it to the party and I don't need him to tell me I'm pretty. You already did that and that's more than enough for me," she spoke out. "Try to have a good time, dear. Make the most of the night," her father encouraged. "I will," Jhessail assured. The call disconnected. Jhessail leaned against the wall by the balcony of the room. She stared out at the sky, watching the beautiful stars shimmer in the distance. It was magical. "Your father is right, you are indeed very pretty," a figure steps out from the room. Jhessail bit her lip and shifted uncomfortably, taking a step to the side. As she does, her arm brushes against his, and he flinches.
