Chapter 5

Ronald waited for Audrey's response for a while. But no words came out of her mouth. He also turned his gaze towards Jerry, who was in pain. Even so, it didn't make him feel sorry. Finally, Ronald decided to return to the cave alone. He just wanted to monitor Audrey's safety from a distance. Just a few steps away, Ronald heard Audrey's voice giving directions to Jerry and Rose. He stopped to listen to what they were talking about. "In the wreckage of the Jet Airlines, there may still be many suitcases with food reserves. You can look for them later. Or, you can pick fruit trees like Ronald did at the cemetery," said Audrey, while pointing to the location she had specified. Instantly Jerry's face was like a breath of fresh air, beaming. He excitedly shouted, "Wow, picking fruit directly from the tree? That sounds so exciting! I've always had a hobby of mountain climbing. So, it's something I've always done." Then he continued, "Have you ever heard of Florfest mountain? If you haven't, I'll tell you that it's the highest mountain in the city of Loscord," Jerry said proudly. "That's cool! It turns out you have a brave spirit. As far as I know, it's a mountain that only a few people have managed to climb to the top. It's even rumored that many people have gone missing there," Audrey said, impressed. After showing off his skills, Jerry replied in a humble manner, "Don't praise me too much. It's just something I do. Even on this mountain I can conquer." "That's great! That means you can get us out of here." Audrey's voice was hopeful. Ronald, who was the distant listener, just chuckled. "I should test his abilities. If he's capable, he should be able to get past the obstacles I gave him." After hearing the conversation, Ronald decided not to go back into the cave. He would monitor their activities from a distance. Moreover, he wanted to teach Jerry a valuable lesson. Ronald heard their conversation again. This time he heard Rose's voice. He watched her carefully. "Jerry, then hurry up and get me some fresh fruit from here. I'm very hungry." Rose's tone was hopeful. Suddenly, Audrey interjected, "There are many apple trees here but the only ones that bear fruit are over there. I know that because Ronald gave me the fruit last night." As if not to be outdone, Jerry was dismissive. "Okay, I'll go over there right now. Prove to you that I'm a man you can count on," he said excitedly. Rose was amazed at her lover's attitude. "I trust you. We'll still be here waiting for you." Jerry immediately left and started walking down the muddy road. Realizing this, Ronald immediately took quick steps to avoid being caught eavesdropping. He looked for a hiding place that he thought was safe and could carry out his mission. Observing from a close distance was one of Ronald's missions. In fact, he followed Jerry wherever he went. After a while, Ronald noticed Jerry trying to climb an apple tree. He hurried to get a small stone. As Jerry started to climb up, Ronald started throwing the rock. The rock went right into Jerry's back. "Ouch!" Jerry looked back while holding his back. He scanned his surroundings. It was silent, he thought there were no humans other than him. Ronald chuckled at Jerry's behavior. He repeated himself over and over again. "Who is that? Don't make fun of me in a place like this." Jerry's tone sounded scared. But he climbed all the way to the top. It made Ronald more eager to do more than throw the stone. Actually, he just found out that Jerry was a coward. Ronald quickly switched places near the apple tree where Jerry was climbing. He shook the tree from below. After that, he left quickly and erased the trail. Jerry was on the slippery trunk of the tree, so he slipped. He fell face down in the mud. His face looked like it had been splashed with chocolate until it was unrecognizable. He returned empty-handed. Ronald, who had been peeping, laughed with satisfaction. For him, it was an exciting show. He moved to where he had peeked before Jerry got there. Still keeping his distance, Ronald watched. He couldn't wait to see Audrey and Rose's expressions. This was the moment he had been waiting for. Jerry came up with a face that was almost unrecognizable because it was covered with mud. Even opening his mouth was difficult. Rose and Audrey were therefore surprised by his presence. They both shouted loudly for help. "Ronald! Help! I'm in danger!" shouted Audrey loudly. Hearing Audrey's cry made Ronald happy. Even in a critical situation, it was not Jerry who was mentioned but his name. Even though it was clear beforehand that Jerry flaunted all his advantages. He would pretend not to know everything that had been done. He immediately came out of hiding to be a hero. "What's wrong? What happened?" Robert pretended to panic. He walked over to Audrey and Rose. He took a position in the middle and embraced them both. Delicious, that's how he felt when he could hug two women at once. "There's that figure." Audrey pointed at Jerry and hid her face in Ronald's armpit. Likewise, Rose, not wanting to see Jerry's scary appearance, turned around and put her face close to Ronald's chest. Seeing the scene made Jerry jealous. From a short distance away, he shouted, "Rose! Don't try to look away from me!" Instantly, Audrey and Rose let go of Ronald's embrace. They both gasped if it was Jerry. "Jerry, it's not what you think. Why did you become like this? So, did you manage to bring the apple?" asked Rose curiously. Seizing the opportunity, Ronald said disparagingly, "Rose, your boyfriend is actually a geeky guy. He can't even bring you an apple." "Don't bait me into another fight! I just made a small climbing mistake. It was also because the tree trunk was slippery," Jerry retorted. Since it was already daylight, Ronald just ignored him. He left them immediately. He walked down the street in search of food. On the way, he suddenly saw a turkey. Immediately he set the trap he had made. He also gathered the surrounding materials. The trap was successfully made. Some time after that, the turkey was caught. The large meat made enough food for two days. But first Ronald would wash it in the river. Where Audrey was still there. That meant she would have to face Jerry and Rose again. When he got there, Ronald was confronted by Jerry. "You're back here again? I'm sure you must be scared of being alone." "I'm not like you, spoiled brat! I just came here to wash this turkey." Ronald showed them the turkey. Jerry's expression changed quickly. He didn't like the idea of anyone competing with him.
