The evening meeting went on well, the results were announced, presents were given and we also had an evening bash which was always thrown at the end of the year.
The following day we woke up earlier than usual, freshened up and waited up for Hamish to come and pick us up.
It was around ten o'clock in the morning when my phone chimed, it was a message from Hamish, he was already at the gate.
"Hamish is already at the gate" I said to Ruby who was busy on her phone chatting with Russell or whoever
"Ruby Ruby!" I shouted her name and she looked up immediately.
"What?" She asked sounding bored
"What? I've called you like a thousand times and you now asking me what"
"Well I was on phone plus it is not like you called a thousand times only two times what's up b***h?" She asked and smiled sheepishly
"Don't call me that you shameless b***h" I shouted back and she laughed even hard
"You just called me a shameless b***h wow, anyways what's the news?"
"Hamish is here already and he's at the gate so wake your ass up and hurry up"
"Really now, who's gonna help me with the bags?"
"As if there's an angel who's going to help me carry mine, now hurry up we lock the room, that guys hates people making him late" I said and she sneered
"Really now anyway let's get going you know we have to go the mall after here"
"Of course I know dummy, now hurry up"
We walked towards the gate and I spotted my mom's car
"There he is" I said and we walked towards where he had parked his car.
"Hey Hamish?" I said to him immediately I placed my bags down.
"Hey Brianna, how are you?"
"I'm good Hamish, this my friend and our neighbor Ruby, Ruby this is my mom's driver Hamish" I sad trying to introduce them
"Nice to meet you Hamish " Ruby said and extended her hand to greet him
"Nice to meet you too Ruby, I hope you good"
"Yeah I'm good thanks"
"Okay guys let's get going I have somewhere to be in the next few hours"
"Okay can you help us with the bags, I mean put them in the trunk"
"Yeah of course, just get in I'll deal with that", he said and we walked towards the passenger's seat, after settling down and making sure our safety belts were okay, Hamish walked back and he opened the driver's side.
"So Ruby, I've never seen you around are you sure you're Brianna's neighbor?" He asked immediately he sat down
"Of course everyone knows me, I spent most of the times with Brianna, Mr and Mrs Morton are our family friends just say you're always busy and you've never had a chance to meet me"
"Ooh but Brianna never told me about her"
"Why would I tell you about her Hamish, we not close you know but Ruby is my best friend you should ask Eileen she can tell you more"
"Okay I was just wondering anyway it's good to have true friends you know? So music or no?"
"You know my taste, the usual ones" I said as I focused on my phone
"Okay I got you guys, do you wanna stop by the KFC maybe grab some chips or you guys are fine"
"Of course no, I'm hungry already" I said as Ruby joined me
"Yeah and yoghurt I'm famishing" Ruby said and Hamish laughed
Hamish soon started the car and we drove off to the main road, it didn't take us long before he stopped by the KFC, we ordered for take away chips, fried chicken and squashed mango juice since there was no yogurt.
"I always love KFC chips, they're always the best"
"Of course who doesn't know how much you love chips given that those served at school aren't as crunchy as these, they're just the best and third fried chicken too" i said and Ruby smiled
"You're a foodie I swear" Ruby said and I laughed
"I don't blame you but your appetite is always on another level so that makes the two of us"
"Okay now will you shut up and let me have my chips in peace okay?"
"Okay mom"
"Is this how people behave?" Hamish asked and we both smiled
"Of course that's why we're best friends" we both said in unison it was always our slang
For the next thirty minutes, the drive was a silent one, with both of us glued on our phones, I had already downloaded the perfect match app and keyed in my details although fake ones. I had heard that when you log in that app, most people used fake names, dates of birth, profile pictures and also phone numbers were kept private.
I updated my profile with my dog's name, Rex, she was pretty and I loved her much, it was a gift from Ruby on my fourteenth birthday and I loved it.
Just then I got a message from a guy in my inbox
Brey Ceen: Hey pretty
Barbie: Really now, I just logged in and you calling me pretty, how did you know I'm a girl anyway Mr stalker?
Brey Ceen: I guessed so
Barbie: And why would you guess so?
Brey Ceen: Your profile picture says it all
Barbie: Really what about it?
Brey Ceen: A dog for a profile, girl's thing so are you a girl or not
Barbie: I might be and what about you, a car for a profile pic?
Brey Ceen: Yeah coz I'm a man and I love cars, that's my pet
Barbie: Ooh really remind me again,how old are you?
Brey Ceen: And why would you be concerned about my age?
Barbie: just asking is it wrong if I knew more about you stranger
Brey Ceen: nope but I'm old enough to be your boyfriend
Barbie: ooh really now, see who's flirting already
Brey Ceen: I'm not flirting Barbie, wait is that even your real name?
Barbie: and why would you care if that's my name? Is Brey Ceen your name too
Brey Ceen: Tough much huh, no that's not my name and the last time I checked people don't use their real names here, so I hope you have a beautiful real name like the one you using here
Barbie: I better not say that
"Brianna! We're here already" Ruby's voice brought me back to earth I had totally zoned out and smiling sheepishly on my phone
"Ooh sorry I didn't hear you call me"
"You wouldn't have, you were so glued on that phone I hope you haven't found some other guy who'll steal you from me I hate sharing"
"Says the woman who is in love with Russell, we're just but sharing and no I wasn't with a guy on the phone just some stupid app" I said as I switched off my data and opened the door
"Really what app?"
"Perfect match" I said trying to avoid the conversation
"I can see where you're headed I hope someone's hasn't i itnboxed you and lied to you, those guys are liars and manipulators" she said as she helped me carry my bag to the main house.
"Of course no I was just checking the profile pictures nothing much"
"I hope so, I don't want you getting hurt"
"Of course no I'm careful now are you gonna help me or what I want to change and we can both head out" I said
"Ooh yeah and by the way to save time why don't you help me with your clothes, we head to the mall the you'll help me get these bags to the house after we're back in sure there's no one home right now"
"No problem I was thinking about that by the way now let's get in"
After we got in, I helped her carry her bag to my room which was upstairs, Maria asked if we needed anything and we said we were okay, Maria had been out house help since I was little and I was used to her.
We showered and changed. We were both in black tank tops and blue ripped jeans, Ruby was my size so we didn't get trouble fitting the shoes either. After we were done I took my car keys from my drawers. I know you're wondering about that, well when I turned eighteen years about six months earlier, my dad had gifted me a brand new Bugatti and I loved my baby so much, it was my other pet after Rex of course
I took Rex in my arms as we head out and bid Maria goodbye before we drove off to town.
