Huh? Furrowing her brows, Cory grabbed the woman—correction, Evelyn Brubaker—by the arm and forcefully steered her away from her mother. “We’ll catch you later, Mom. It’s been a long day and I’m seriously exhausted.”
Thankfully, her mom took the hint and so did Evelyn, albeit reluctantly. But Cory didn’t leave room for discussion and propelled her not only towards the house but inside, kicking the door shut behind them.
“What the hell! Have you been lying to me the whole time or what?”
“Of course not. Why would I lie to you, and everyone at the hospital? Honestly, it just came out. I guess my manners jumped in before I had time to even think about it. I’m as stunned as you are!”
Yeah, right. But she let go of Evelyn’s arm just the same. “So, what else do you remember?”
