Chapter 9Cory Water rushes past her, fills her ears, her mouth, pulls her under. Cory thrashes and fights but her arms and legs are like lead and she sinks and sinks and— Gasping, Cory sat up, gulping deep breaths of the cool air drifting in from the open window. The dream! Heart pounding, she disentangled herself from the sheets and swung her legs over the side of the bed. Not knowing whether she made any noises, she listened, but the house was quiet as always. She reached for the water on her nightstand, but the jug was empty. f**k! By the time she’d refilled it and gone back to bed, she was wide awake, which was just as well, because she sure as hell didn’t want to slip back into the dream.
