Chapter 15Cory
Cory’d gone in to work early and she’d stayed late the day after the disastrous almost-kiss, and she did so again the following day. She’d brought a box of chocolates home the first day, and she handed them to Evelyn in an offhanded sort of way. Evelyn thanked her, but Cory wasn’t able to tell whether she’d been pleased or not because of the awkwardness of it all. The following day was more of the same, Evelyn avoiding her as much as possible given their living arrangements. Evelyn still cooked and cleaned, and she was unfailingly polite to Cory, but some of the warmth had disappeared from their little exchanges.
