Chapter 19Cory
Seeing how Evelyn’s expression went from guardedly happy to disturbed for at least the third time now, Cory once more questioned the wisdom of bringing her downtown. It was obvious Evelyn remembered stuff, from the way she’d stared at that unused building for several minutes to the fear of random guys she displayed repeatedly, and most likely without even knowing. Plus, she’d gone blank-faced several times on Cory, including right now. Just when Cory was about to say something to try to break her out of what couldn’t be a good memory, Evelyn rallied and looked at Cory again, though sadly, not with the same warmth she’d displayed only moments before.
