Nobly No-Bully No-Bull-y

As soon as lunch amongst our group was finished, Mindy got to work on preparing Felix and the others for their training, while Lilith, Sheera, and I went to the academy to search for the rest of our classmates. The sooner we get them all to cooperate, the better it is for the whole class. “By the way, do either of you know who else is in our class?” Sheera asked. “I do. In terms of human nobility, however,” Lilith answered. “I remembered our crossbreed classmates. That is, the animal part they have,” I said. “Can’t say I know where they will be, though…” “Since the rest of the week will be self-studying for our class, with our professor not even bothering to come until we improve our class rank, I believe it is safe to say under normal circumstances that they will be in the library or cafeteria at this time,” Lilith said. “Then how about we check the cafeteria? It is still lunch time,” Sheera suggested. Only… “You just want to eat, don’t you?” I questioned, seeing through her friendly-sounding suggestion. The shrew crossbreed avoided eye contact with me in response to my accusation, practically confirming it. “Still, as good of an idea as those sound, they might not be there.” The pair turned to me with raised brows. “Why say that?” the Poison Mage asked. “The mock exam is not a paper exam, so unless if they’re looking for ways to improve their magic in textbook reference, the library wouldn’t be a good place to be. As for the cafeteria, considering the lack of ingredients present, I imagine the chefs had temporarily raised the prices of each dish, especially towards lower ranks. If they got average or below, I doubt they would want to spend so much on food.” “Why would the chefs raise the price of their dish?” Sheera questioned. I turned to her with a judging expression. “Did you forget who practically went and raised their kitchen earlier?” That made her turn away once more, with some sweats coming out of her and a nervous smile on her face. “The staff will need the financials to buy some extra ingredients,” Lilith said in understanding. “But if not either of those… then where do you suggest they will be?” “My best guess is the training ground,” I replied. “If they’re looking to improve on their magic and see immediate result of their improvement, as well as where they can improve on, it would have to be somewhere they can train.” “I see… That does sound fairly reasonable.” “That’s awesome, Levi! You could be a strategist when you graduate!” Sheera exclaimed. “You’re saying that a little too early. This is only an assumption,” I reminded. “Still, it’s a good a start as any. Let’s go to the training ground.” ****** As soon as we arrived at our destination, good news, as expected, we found the rest of our crossbreed classmates there, consisting of a male bull crossbreed with curved horns on his head, a female raccoon crossbreed with grey and black striped tail, and a male bat crossbreed with bat ears on his head. Bad news, they were not the only ones there, and not in a good way. “You really think Failure beasts like you are allowed to even step foot in these grounds? Don’t make us laugh,” said a noble student, one who seemed quite familiar, but I could not point out where. “Why not?! It’s not like this school is not allowing certain students to be at certain places!” exclaimed a male crossbreed with curved horns on his head. “Do you really want me to point it out? Oh, you poor mindless beast. Don’t you know? It’s one thing for breasts like you to be welcomed here, but of that failure class? As the letter of your class states, you are nothing more than complete failures! Why you’re even admitted to this academy, I will never know, but you’re dreaming of you ever think you people will ever be our equal!” “You don’t know that!” shouted a crossbreed with a raccoon tail. “You dare raise your voice against Lord Zaldon!? Know your place, beast!” one of the other nobles shouted, with the name of the first and most arrogant noble sounding very familiar to me. “You’re nothing more than failures, just like your predecessors. You’re better off going home to your mommies, especially when you all have such weak, lame, and useless magic,” another one of the other nobles said. “Our magic is not lame!” the crossbreed with the horns exclaimed. “Just because they’re not elemental does not make them useless!” “I never said anything about it being elemental or not. There are crossbreeds in our class who has super speed, strength, and durability, as well as some with powerful form of neutral magic. But you people? A cow crossbreed with simple dimensional storage magic, a raccoon crossbreed who can’t use her magic, and a bat crossbreed who can’t control his own magic. I don’t know how you beasts take your exam, but it’s clear enough that you don’t belong here.” “You’re wrong! We worked hard to get here! The examiner saw and evaluated us fairly!” the bat crossbreed exclaimed. “Sure you did.” “Now, now. There’s no need for that,” the supposed leader of the trio of nobles said. “Maybe they really did prove themselves worthy in that exam. But then again, compared to our exam, theirs must be easy. I mean, they can’t use combat magic, and yet they managed to pass.” I could tell the guy was moving them, and knew the crossbreeds did, too, if Sheera’s light growling meant anything. … Unless if that was her stomach. “So, how about another test? The mock exam is too far off, and it won’t be a fair examination if everyone is going to target the same opponent. A three on three. You beat us, we will admit you have some skills. Otherwise, you can kiss your rights goodbye.” That baffled the three crossbreeds, and sickened me, as well as made that guy seem even more disgustingly familiar. “Fine! We’ll show you how we passed!” the bull crossbreed exclaimed, holding up a practice sword he had. “Wait, you serious?!” the bat crossbreed gasped. “We need to show our class is not staying in last place. Or at the very least, we are not as weak as they think is to be. Shutting this guy up in a sword fight sounds like the right move to me.” While his reason is not wrong, I could not help but sigh at how naive that crossbreed was. For after all… “Oh? So you accept then,” the leader of the group of three spoke, as he and his friends unsheathed their own practice swords. “All right, cow. Let’s dance.” “There is one thing you should know, by the way. I’m not a cow; I’m a bull!” As he shouted those words, the bull crossbreed charged at the ringleader, and locked blades with him. As he did so, the raccoon and bat crossbreed followed his lead and went for the two minions with their own swords. The two teams of three struck and swung their blades at each other, clashing, with the crossbreeds showing no sign of exhaustion and the nobles seemingly struggling to keep up with them. “Their swordsmanship seem good,” Lilith observed. “‘Good’? Are you really watching the fight? They’re beating the other class!” Sheera said, enjoying the seemingly one-sided fight. “Except they overlooked one thing.” The shrew crossbreed looked at her in confusion at those words. “Lilith’s right. We need to step in. Now,” I said, already preparing a spell. Back at the battle, the bull crossbreed locked swords with the leader once more. "Still think we aren't good enough to be here?" he questioned, noticing how the guy seemed to be struggling in holding him back. Despite his struggle, a smirk appeared on the human's face. "As a matter of fact... I-" Before he could finish his response, I struck him between the eyes with my Water Bullet. It was not just him I attacked, as I fired the spell at both his subordinates as well, knocking them down, too. "Ouch! Who did that?!" the ringleader demanded, turning to me and my group. "I did. And?" I dared him. Rather than responding to my dare, the guy widened his eyes in surprise at me. "You?! You're that girl from the entrance exam!" I only sighed at those words. "Yes, I am the Fifth Rank commoner. So what if I am?" I questioned. "Not that! While you did somehow get ranked that high!" he corrected, to my confusion. I thought he seemed familiar, but did we really meet somewhere? "Not only are you a monster lover, but you're a beast lover as well? Then again, I suppose it's to be expected from you, if you have a monster as a pet!" I became quite annoyed when he said that, knowing well he was referring to Mindy, and it did not take me much longer to finally realize where I saw his face. "Ah, one of the students from that idiotic commotion, made by that even bigger i***t who tried to zap my friend. I thought I saw your face from somewhere." My words surprisingly had affected them more than I thought, as the human nobles completely lost their composure at my words. "Who are you calling an even bigger i***t?!" the ringleader questioned, making me all the more confused. "Why are you getting angry? It's not like I was calling you that. Though you might as well be just as idiotic if you have such high expectations of that blatant fool." "How dare you insult Lord Zaldon again?!" one of the minions shouted, recovering from the Water Bullet. "Bad enough you made him look bad in front of Lady Leia, but you went and insult him again?! You good-for-nothing commoner!" the other minion exclaimed, also recovering from the attack I grew more and more confused at what they were saying. I was referring to that one i***t who went and riled up a group of students into attacking me, Mindy, and Azalea. Why are they making it sound like this guy was that guy? "Levi, I only watched from a distance, but I did see what happened at the exam," Lilith whispered to me. "The person who you said tried to attack Mindy back then- Zaldon was his name- ... This man here is that man." I widened my eyes in shock at the reveal. This guy was that same person?! But... no matter how I look at him... "He looks even dumber than that day at the entrance exam," I said aloud. "Have you no taste in fashion? What's with that ridiculous flat top?! I thought nobles have better fashion sense than that." My words caught everyone off guard. Did I know I insulted him? Well, of course I did. After all, his arrogance and ego were bad enough. For him to walk around with a flat top? Despite what I voiced out, it was not that the style was bad, per say, but it was definitely not a style for nobility. Regardless, I seemed to have said too much, as the guy summoned a yellow magic circle under me. "You're dead!" he shouted. Before he could cast a spell, however, a burst of flames came by, rushing past us, and brought all attention to the source, who was none other than the one person I least wanted to see. "What do you think you're doing, Zaldon?" Leia demanded. "That should be my question to you, sweet Leia," Zaldon said. "Why are you protecting that cheating commoner?! She insulted nobility!" "On the contrary, she voiced out my very opinion of that hair style of yours," she said. "This whole day, I had been asking myself 'why, just why, did this i***t ever decide to get such a ridiculous hair cut? Over getting but a slightly higher than average score on the entrance exam.' I couldn't dare say it, no matter how much I wanted to speak those words. Same with several others in class. So if anything, a commoner saying that is nothing more than a blessing." Zaldon and his guys looked at her in shock. "B-But... I thought you liked this style." This time, Leia looked at them puzzled. "In what realm of reality did I ever say that?! Furthermore, you are a noble. I don't know how you managed to convince your parents to get that style, but if anything, the one insulting nobles is you. Bad enough you discriminated against people who are to be our peers and comrades-in-arms, but to take further action that can harm our name and pride as nobility?! And I do not just mean the hair. You heard from our professor about the mock exam. Were you really just about to even attempt to get rid of the competition before then?! If Levi is a cheater, what would that make you?" Zaldon and his buddies went speechless, unable to say a word in response. "This conversation is over. Get out of here, now, or I will not hesitate to inform my brother of this. You saw how strict he was at the entrance exam. Do you want to test and see how he will react to hearing three nobles trying to take out students of another class before the day of our mock exam?" At Leia's threat, the boys reluctantly left, not before sending a glare at my way. As soon as they were gone, Leia turned to us. "I am so sorry for their behavior," she bowed in apology. "It's fine. You're not the one who should be apologizing," the bull crossbreed said, glancing at my way for some reason when he said that. Leia was relieved to hear that, and turned to me as well. "I'm actually glad he caused a commotion for once. I was looking for you," she told me. "Can we talk? Please?" "And what would a noble like you want with a commoner like me?" I asked back. "More than just any noble, you're daughter of the strongest duke in the kingdom. Someone like you don't have anything to do with someone like me." "That's not true at all. Just... a minute of your time. That's all I'm asking." I was silent for some time, unsure of how to take this, especially given our surrounding. It was already suspicious enough for someone of her status to be speaking to someone of mine, if the others see a commoner reject a noble's request, who knows what sort of rumor will pop up then, even if it will be amongst just one class. "... Lilith, Sheera? Do you two think you can wait for me in the hall? And bring the others with you," I requested. "This sounds important. I agree that it is best if you two have some privacy," Lilith said. "You sure? Well, I guess if you say so," Sheera followed. She then turned to the other crossbreeds and grabbed them. "Come on, you three. Let's go." Next they knew, she was dragging them away with Lilith following. "Huh?! What the- Let go!" the bull crossbreed exclaimed. As soon as they were gone, I turned to Leia with a sigh. "All right... What do you want to talk about?"
