After Lilith and I had arrived at a room that was to house her fiance- the infamous and misunderstood Accursed Hazard- the door had opened up to reveal the boy residing within. At least… I had assumed so- assumed that we will be meeting a dark and gloomy boy- when we were greeted by someone else entirely. Furthermore…
“My dear flower Lily~! How I have long awaited for our couple time~"
He went and said that to Lilith. It couldn’t be that he…
“Hello, Ethan. It’s been a short while,” Lilith greeted, confirming my suspicion of this man before us.
“Oh, Lily… how our time apart had pained me so… With each passing second, I could not stop thinking about you. My previous Lily, the only one who understood me so, who helped me see light beyond the dark cavern! If I were told to cast a curse on you, dear Lilith, there is only one curse I would ever dare cast. The curse… of disintegration, so any who dare bare ill will toward you will be reduced to nothingness.”
Hearing that made me flinch in fear, for it was clear as day how much this guy loves Lilith, as well as the length he will go just to protect her. Curse magic aside, this guy is still quite dangerous with that sort of mindset. Truly, not the sort of person anyone should be messing with, especially not towards Lilith.
“I’m not here for any ‘couples time’, as you call it,” she told him. “We’re here to ask something of you.”
Ethan seemed to have froze when she said that. “‘We’?” He then turned his head towards me, finally taking notice of my presence. Almost as soon as he laid eyes upon me, he had on a dark and disgusted look on his face, a complete contrast from his actions earlier.
“H-Hi…” I weakly greeted.
“And just who is this?” he questioned in a very cold tone.
“This is our classmate, Levi Caribbean, the commoner who scored fifth rank,” Lilith introduced me. “She is here to ask something of you.”
“If it’s to use my Curse Magic on someone, I refuse,” he instantly said.
“While you may have to do that anyway for the upcoming mock exam, that’s not what I was going to ask,” I answered, holding back my slight fear for this guy. “I’m here to ask you to join me and the rest of our class for training.”
“No,” he instantly responded, much to my surprise.
“‘No’? But why?”
“Do you really expect me to work with the people who shunned me and my fiance, simply because we have magic that are considered dangerous to them? You’re nothing more than a commoner who got lucked out on the entrance exam. Give me one good reason why I will ever join you.”
“How about to prove others wrong about you? You were misunderstood since young about yourself. More than me. Don’t you want to at least make some friends amongst our class?” Lilith asked.
Ethan’s face softened when she said that, as he replied, “My dear Lily… If we were still children, I may feel that way, but now? I care not for what those baboon of fools think of me. For compared to whatever they do or say to me, there is only one person in the world whose words are like messages from a goddess, whose voice is like an angel singing halo, she whose actions are so elegant and good-willed, a heart so pure, it’s dazzling in these eyes! Yes… Only you are all that matters to me, Lilith! My flower Lily~!”
As he said those incredibly cheesy lines, I noticed Lilith, despite her completely neutral expression to practically everything, was somewhat paling a bit from his words, eyes looking quite dead, as though she having none of his romance and undying love for her.
"And what of your Curse Magic? I know you say you do not wish to use your magic on others, but wouldn't you say it would be the best idea to test your many cures toward curses?" she tried to tell him.
"Lilith, we both have our ways in how we wish to use our magic, just as anyone would. Though that idea does sound grand, it is but an idea you do. As your fiance who loves and respects you, I do not wish to copy your methods. I shall test my cures and my theories my own way, just as you do with yours," he reasoned.
As good a reason as it sounded, from Lilith's expression, once again, she was not having it at all. But in any case, though I really did want all of our classmates to join us in our training as a class, I was not one to force others into things they don't want to do. Persuade them, maybe, but not force them.
"It's fine, Lilith. I'm sure everything will still be fine," I told her. "If your fiance really doesn't want to help, then he doesn't have to. I'm not someone who will force others to do what I want."
At my words, Ethan looked at me with a scoff. "Well, at least a commoner has some sense, unlike those other nobles."
"I suppose you can say that... In any case, thank you for your time. We have to search for the rest of our other classmates."
"Hold it!" Just as I had turned and got ready to leave, Ethan suddenly stood in front of me, much to my surprise. "'We'? Who is this 'we'? What do you mean 'we'?" he questioned, his face inching towards me in rage, much to my slightly increasing fright.
"Huh? I mean me and Lilith, of course. She's helping me find and convince the rest of our noble classmates to join the training group."
"And she would do that why...?"
"Because she is also in the group? And practically the first- well, second noble, to join?"
He froze wide-eyed in shock at the response. Slowly, Ethan turned to Lilith, who I noticed tilted her head slightly to avoid eye contact with him, but still nodded. The second she did that...
"Why did you not say such a thing earlier?! If my dear Lilith goes anywhere, it is only obvious as her fiance that I will go along~!" Ethan exclaimed in a tune, surprising me as he turned back to his lovey-dovey persona. "And you say you are searching for the other nobles? It just so happens I know just a spell that helps locate people! One of the most harmless of spells if used right! Allow me to prepare right away, my love~!" Instantly, the man rushed into his dorm, with his door slammed shut.
I could only stare at the door, wide-eyed with the sudden change in attitude. "Well... He was... quite the character, I guess," I could only say.
"That's putting it very lightly..." Lilith said, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Why didn't you just tell him you were in the group if he was that... incredibly devoted to you?"
"Because between his cold, dark persona and that bright, lovey-dovey one he puts on around me, I much rather have less of the latter. Do you have any idea how many times I had wanted to puke whenever he is aware of my presence?"
I thought back to that cheesy speech Ethan gave earlier about how much he especially respects Lilith's words and actions, in which 'respect' would not be enough to describe such... and saw her point.
"Have you even tried to tell him to tone down that part of him?" I questioned.
The girl looked at me with quite the dead expression on her face. "Does it look like I never did?" That was more than enough to answer. "Once we find out where the other two nobles are, I expect to test ten antidotes on you."
I flinched in bafflement at those words. "What happened to 'three'?!"
"After making me go through such revolting moment, do you truly think three is enough?"
I sensed an evil aura radiating off of her from that demand, and gulped nervously in fearful preparation for what was to come.
