Meeting the Trio

Now that Sheera had also been added to Class F's training group, I decided to head to the dormitory to see how the others are doing. Not just in training, but also in meeting a certain pair of nobles. ... I only hoped one of them in particular did not do anything I fear she would do upon meeting them. "Hey... Remember what I said about feeling full earlier?" I heard Sheera ask beside me, she who followed me to the training ground. Well, since we were heading to the same place anyway, it would not hurt to go together. Though I have to say, walking side-by-side with her, I was more than baffled upon seeing  "It's just a little longer. Besides, you can't be that hungry already," I insisted. "I know but..." Sheera trailed off, as her stomach let out a light growl. "See? Even my stomach is saying something." "Are you sure it's not the sound of it digesting all that food you ate earlier? You did consume quite a bunch." "But I eat more than that, and it never made this hungry noise before." I could not help but feel disturbed once more when she reminded me of the amount she ate earlier, compared to her supposed daily intake. "All I can offer you is some water. Would drink satisfy you?" I asked. "It's not food, but since it's from your magic..." I formed a water ball with my mana and held my hand out to her for Sheera to drink. She brought her mouth to the ball and took in large, audible gulps, as I gradually formed more water into the ball for her to consume.  After several gulps, the girl took her mouth away from the ball with a relieved sigh. “Now that… has to be the best water I’ve ever tasted,” she complimented. “I’ve heard how weak Water Magic is, but if you ask me, after today, convenience is more of its strong point.”  I raised a brow at those words. “Didn’t you see the entrance exam?” I asked.  “Hm? Well, not the human portion, but I have seen my fellow crossbreeds take the exam. Why?”  This made me stop in my tracks and looked at her in surprise. “‘Human portion’?”  “Well, yeah. There are two portions of the entrance exam. One is for humans, and the other is for crossbreeds. They’re taken in two different parts of the academy at different times, especially since our fighting style with our magic differs.”  “Differs how?”  “While a human’s magic is purely elemental, a crossbreed’s magic is more or less on a physical term, usually would have to do with our species. Like for me, there is a reason as to why my species eat a lot.”  Upon hearing that there was a real reason for her huge appetite, I raised a brow in curiosity. “And that reason is your magic, I’m assuming?”  “Yep. The more I eat- I more full I am- the greater my magic power, which is physical enhancement, and the more deadly the venom in my teeth are. In most cases, it would only be one kind, but my parents are different species of crossbreeds, and even then getting two different types of magic is rare.”  I nodded my head in understanding, until I realized something about what she said. “Wait, venom? But I thought you said a crossbreed’s magic is physical?”  “My dad’s particular shrew species have venom in their teeth. You could say it’s a characteristic we’re born with, like my ears.”  I could only nod again in response. “So, there are two different types of the entrance exam?” I asked then, bringing the previous topic back.  “That’s right. I imagine commoners don’t know that, though, especially those of the crossbreed race. Noble crossbreeds enter the academy from the back as to avoid conflict with the human nobles. Because of that, unless if a commoner crossbreed spots any one of us heading towards the academy, they would not be able to properly take the exam nor be evaluated properly, especially with how some human nobles treat those ‘below their level’.”  When she said that, I thought back to the entrance exam, just now recalling the lack of crossbreeds at the time, compared to back at the auditorium, where there were a number of them present compared to the exam. The Flammel Royal Academy was said to be fair, and yet the treatment half the student population was given was anything but. … Honestly speaking, it was quite pitiful. Not only that, but when I saw the list of passers on the board, comparing that number to the seats, it did seem to be a little more than half that the number of seats, and yet every seat was filled with students.  “What part of this is equality towards human and crossbreed?” I wondered out loud.  “Exactly,” Sheera agreed. “By the way, are we there yet?” I looked up and saw we were near the meadow.  “Yeah. Just that meadow there.”  Once we got there, though, imagine our surprise when we saw most of my commoner peers on the ground, injured and muddied up, with Mindy kneeling before Lilith and Felix, panting in exhaustion.  “I’ve certainly gained much new knowledge,” Lilith spoke, writing in a book. “This has truly been quite the experience for me.”  “Says you,” Felix retorted. “I kind of thought these guys would like my welcome. To think they’re just as bad with my magic as the nobles were.”  I could see Mindy glaring at them, sending a bad feeling in my gut about the whole situation. “Why you… I don’t care if you are our classmates, but if you think I will let you continue to do harm to these people, you have another thing coming! In fact, since you guys are our classmates, why would you do this?! If you did speak to Lady Levi, you should be helping us train! So why?!”  Those words with that tone were more than enough to confirm that a misunderstanding had definitely occurred.  “Hey! Knock it off over there!” I shouted, rushing over to them as they turned their attention to me.  “Oh! Speaking of,” Felix spoke.  “Lady Levi! Get away from here!” Mindy shouted. “These people… they suddenly came and attacked us with their magic!”  This made me face palm, completely solidifying the confirmation. “Yeah, that’s... actually how they are,” I spoke, confusing her and a few conscious commoners.  “Huh? What do you…?”  “Why don’t we take a moment to breathe first? Lilith, I see some people are afflicted in your poison. You couldn’t wait until later to test any more of your theories? And Felix, did you really have to pull a prank on them? When you're just meeting them for the first time?” “It's not my fault. That rowdy boy approached me first and challenged me to use my magic. I only responded in kind," she reasoned, pointing at Leroy. "Yeah, and I was just giving them a fun 'hello'. With my magic," Felix added for his bit. I could only let out a heavy sigh at how... unique these two were.
