Ray (15 Part - 1)
Ever since we got to Glasgow over three hours ago, my wolf has been antsy. We were originally going to go to the pack house of the Alpha here however, we had decided to split up and some of us checked into hotels close to each other.
I remember Simon driving into the city of Glasgow and my wolf Tark rearing its head, telling me to get a room in the hotel rather than staying at a pack house. Before I knew it, He was insisting on it and started to give me a headache. Tim noticed my pain and I let him and Simon know what my wolf wanted. I went with Simon to the pack while Tim had secured rooms at the local Travelodge hotel before he joined us at the pack house at the North Point Pack.
“Ray, are you ok?” I heard my name being called
I blinked and looked around the room at the different faces before me. Smiling and nodding, I shook my head to clear my thoughts as Simon coughed lightly, catching my attention. When he lifted his eyebrows up, I nodded to him; letting him know I was fine.
“So is everyone happy with the plan? Sam asked
When everyone nodded, Sam got up to answer his mobile as the rest of the twelve people in the room started to move around.
“You ok boss?” Tim asked me
“I don’t know” I replied “I am…but i’m not. Something has got Tark really antsy”
I saw Tim open his mouth to speak when the conference room doors opened and omega’s came into the room, trolleys and trays laden with food and drinks. I saw Tim huff out a breath of appreciation when he caught the smell of hot food and I smiled at Simon who looked towards an equally appreciative Scott who was already filling up his plate.
“You’d think he wasn’t ever fed in our pack” Simon snorted
“It’s been hours” Scott said as he picked up two large croissants stuffed with chicken and salads
“Three hours, Scott” Simon said with a roll of his eyes
Scott shrugged his shoulders as he sat down with two large filled plates of food and grabbed two cans of soft drinks too. I nodded to
Tim who was looking longingly towards the food and he smiled at me as he moved away to make his own plate. I smiled at other people who gestured for me to sit and eat with them and I told them I would before I walked out of the room. I saw a few people dotted around the corridor and asked where the nearest exit was for some fresh air and as one of the omega’s told me directions, I started to walk briskly, needing that air more than ever
I opened the double doors and found myself out in the large garden behind the pack house. When I saw it was empty, I assumed it meant the alpha must have closed off the access because we were all gathered around. Fresh, clean, crisp air entered my lungs as I took one deep breath after another, closing my eyes for a few seconds to enjoy the solitude that seems to come from being in a lush place like Scotland.
“You ok?” Simon asked
I opened my eyes and turned my head to find him standing beside me, his hands in his jeans pocket. His eyes clocking my every move
“I’m….something” I say
“Is this because of Kai” Simon asked
I hesitated, unsure how to answer without offending him
“Don’t worry” Simon chuckled “I know he can be a little full-on, s**t at times”
“It’s not that” I say “Whatever he told my wolf, it’s got Tark all riled up and antsy”
“Why doesn’t he just tell you what Kai said?” Simon asked
“Because apparently that will make me act differently and possibly dangerously…whatever that means” I said, throwing my hands up in the air
“He’s got Magnus in the same way” Simon said, nodding his head
“Don’t get me wrong Si, I love the kid and he is a smart cookie” I said, sighing “But he is one little know-it-all s**t with too many rules”
Simon chuckled, his body shaking with my statement. I smiled, glad he wasn’t offended
“Tell me about it” Simon said, crossing his arms “He told me I wasn’t being attentive to Soph, and to use tennis balls on her back….like we hadn’t been pregnant before”
“Tennis balls?” I asked, confused
“For back pain when pregnant” Simon explained
“Damn” I whistled “Kids not even ten yet and telling you what to do. Imagine him as a teen and then an adult”
“I try not to” Simon winced
“Sorry” I chuckle
“I am too” Simon said after a while
“For what?” I asked, surprised
“For Kai. For whatever he’s said to make you this agitated” Simon said
“It’s not his fault” I sigh “I’m sure whatever he’s said is for a reason”
Silence fell between us and I took in more fresh air. I was started when Simon spoke again
“Sometimes, I really wish that he wasn’t the supreme. That Magnus hadn’t bitten Soph” Simon admitted quietly “That Kai was just a normal, average kid who played with cars and loved Thor or Aquaman and the only pressing things his mum and I worried about was his growing collection of toys”
“He’s a good kid Si” I said, looking at him from the corner of my eyes
“That’s the thing though Ray. He shouldn’t be. He should be a carefree kid and being a naughty little s**t that should throw a little tantrum now and then or cry for things or want to spend his time playing….being a kid. Most of the time; he’s not. I worry” Simon sighed “I worry about those that are out there and if they come for him. I worry for his future and will he get to enjoy his childhood”
“He will. He still loves his dinosaurs and spiderman” I said, holding his gaze
“I see the difference in the kids” Simon admitted “The twins, they play and laugh. They act their age. They love him, but you can see them look at Kai and wonder why he doesn’t do things the way they do. I don’t want that alienation for him. Sometimes, I look at him and I see an old man, an old soul looking right back at me and……I worry”
I stayed silent, shocked that Simon spoke so openly and honestly with me. Simon definitely has come a long way from when I first met him but still; this was on a different level. He must be really worried
“As a parent, it must be natural to worry. But Si, he’s a good kid. Having these powers must be both a gift and burden and yet; he manages it with poise. Again, that’s probably a worry too but he’s not alone. Aria will always be there for him” I said
“That’s the thing Ray” Simon sighed again “She is just as powerful and” Simon stopped and looked around before quietly whispering
“And maybe she is more than what we know. Kai is very tight-lipped about her. That and the fact that they both know and acknowledge each other as mates”
Simon shakes his head, worry on his face
“Do you think Aria knows things like Kai?” I asked
“Possibly. I can’t rule it out. Both of them can travel to the moon goddess and to the afterlife. They know too much. Can go anywhere they want and I can’t stop them” Simon said
“Maybe the key isn’t to stop them but to help them know when not to do it” I suggested
“You think that would work? When it comes to his mate and Aria’s wishes, Kai can’t be stopped or moved” Simon snorted
“s**t” I whispered “Jason’s gonna flip”
“I know” Simon whispered quietly
“Well look, don’t worry ok, Whatever he’s told Tark, my wolf isn’t angry. It’s almost like he’s waiting….and wanting something to just be done. That’s the antsy kinda feeling i’m getting. So don’t be too harsh on the kid” I said with a small smile
“Whatever the information is; we’ll tackle it together” Simon said with a nod
“Thanks. I just can’t believe that after years of searching, dead-ends and blocks….it now happening” I sighed
“That must also be hard” Simon said quietly “I can’t imagine what you both went through, losing your family and pack like that”
“We always think how if he and I hadn’t gone to that stupid school trip….we could have helped” I admitted
“At seven years old?” Simon asked with raised eyebrows “Don’t do that to yourself. You know that pups that young…even alphas-to-be, couldn’t have defeated whatever attack happened”
“But we could have helped” I replied
“You could have……would have died” Simon said before he gripped my shoulder “Now, lets at least grab a coffee before the animals in their leave us nothing”
I laughed, my heart a little lighter at that factual statement. I smiled as we both started walking back towards the conference room
“When is Nick joining us?” I asked
“His beta said once he picks up his kids from school” Simon replied
“I can’t believe his kids go to a normal human school” I said as I whistled
“I know” Simon nodded as we passed a few people in the corridor “But he says that’s the easiest way to blend in…hiding in plain sight”
“We’ve already built a nursery, a daycare and school in the last three years” I said “High school is something else but we are looking into it”
“Same” Simon said “But his mate works at the same place so I guess it works for them”
“He’s a good alpha” I said “I still think he shouldn’t come with us when we go later. He has such a young family”
“We all do” Simon said as we walked the first level of stairs “But this facility…these people are dangerous and it affects all of us. It’s going to take more than just enforcers and warriors to fight and deal with this”
We got the the conference room and smiled when we saw all the different packs chatting and eating. Tim looked our way and Scott nodded at us as he spoke to the beta of this pack. As we entered, we saw the omegas from before still standing at the side. One of them rushed over and gestured to the side tables
“Alpha’s” She bowed her head “there are still plenty of food and we have just brought out more fresh coffee and tea’s. May I give you some?”
“Thanks” I smiled, looking towards the coffee “Black, one sugar and milky please”
“Yes alpha” The girl said before taking Simon’s order
Simon and I took a plate each and selected a couple of small items before taking our seats at the tables. After a few seconds, our hot drinks arrived and after having a sip; I felt the tension drain out of me. I was still a little antsy but ….I wasn’t feeling as high strung.
“Goddess. This really helped” Simon sighed in pleasure “Didn’t even know I needed it that badly"
“Me either” I said with relief
“Alpha’s” Sam said as he came back into the room
The room quieted as we all looked at him. Sam, the top warrior for this pack came into the room and nodded to the omegas who promptly left before he closed the door.
“I just spoke to our contact called Sal. They have passed the first check point when leaving the ferry. They are off Mull and making their way over here”
I took a deep breath, my head feeling light all of a sudden
“How long before they get to livingston?” Simon asked
“It is about three hours and fifty minutes from Mull to Glasgow and then a further almost forty minutes to Livingston, depending on traffic. The drop off point adds a few minutes” Sam said, he then turned to everyone in the room and addressed them “If the alpha’s are in agreement, then I would suggest we all prepare to leave for Livingston in two and a half hours. While it is not far from here, we want to be in place because we know that the vehicle is being followed as well as the family”
“Agreed” I said, standing up again
Simon followed along with Scott, Tim and Nick
“We have rooms prepared for you to rest here” Nick said “I know you have the hotel rooms as well but may I suggest resting here so we can all go together from here at the same time?”
“I think that’s a good idea” Simon said as he looked at me
I nodded my agreement
“Ok then” Sam said “Everyone else, do what you have to but be prepared to leave by one pm the latest. We want to blend into the surrounding areas and we can only do that if we are there before. Alpha’s, if you follow me; I can show you and you’re beta and warrior your rooms”
“Do you have a gym?” Tim asked
“We do beta” Sam nodded
“I can show you it. I’m going there myself” Nick said as he guided Tim out and to where he needed to go
The room slowly emptied out as Simon, Scott and I followed Sam. We went through a couple of levels, taking the stairs to the upper floor as he explained the layout and what was on each level. This pack house was smaller than the one Simon had but almost the same as our packs but we were still building. As Sam stopped at the higher ranking level, he introduced us to the den mother who would take care of anything for us while we stayed a few hours in the room. He first dropped off Scott and Simon who's rooms were only two doors down from each other before he walked me to the end of the corridor and showed me to my room.
I thanked him and stepped into my room, whistling softly at the grandeur. This room could easily hold at least fifteen people, if not more. There was a mini living room as you enter with a large twelve seat, marble dining table with a small kitchenette to the side. I saw the large plasma on the wall and saw two large double doors and then a single door to the left of the room
