I watched quietly as my beta Tim folded his hands and blew out a breath. I saw him glance at me, but in front of my eyes, the faces of my old pack kept coming and going.

“Ray”

I looked up and saw Magnus watching me closely as Simon and Scott watched me from the opposite side.

“I can’t believe this person knows about our old pack” I said quietly.

I felt frozen inside, held tightly together. So tight that if a small pebble hit the core, I would shatter. I tried to even out my breathing but felt like I couldn’t centre myself. One thing I've learned after living with Anna and her powers….how to focus on myself and breath. Magick was surprisingly very basic. Emotions could ruin or escalate the power. Anna helped me to understand the importance of breathing and how to centre myself, explaining to me how that in itself could be powerful.

When I felt a strong hand grip my right shoulder, I moved my eyes to look at Magnus and almost shut my own eyes once again. Pain. Betrayal. Anger. Hate. fear…….understanding. I saw it all in his eyes. He felt what I was going through. I guess he would after what his mate and her sister did to him. The loss of his pup, one to another pack and one to death. The miscarriages…the blood sacrifice. His pack being destroyed by magick and then turning rogue….but the most devastating of all for him…. The loss of a mate and her betrayal by action.

“To know that our pack was deliberately destroyed” I shook my head, my heart tightening in pain

“We will find them” Magnus said, gripping my shoulder harder “And once we snuff out all the betraying little fuckers, we kill them”

I felt my lips tilt up in a smirk at the casual way he delivered that thought even as the others chuckled around the room.

“Killing plans already pop?” Sophie said as she stepped into the room

“What are you doing here?” Magnus asked as he stepped away from me, a frown making him look scary

Sophie clearly didn’t think so as she walked up to Magnus and kissed his cheek, then turned her head to the two kitchen staff that followed behind her with two trolleys full of food and drink. As the omega’s started setting up a table and the aroma of food started penetrating the air, she smiled at me and walked over as I got up and opened my arm.

She hugged me tightly, her pregnant belly digging into me and I felt a kick. I smiled, my heart aching for what I didn’t have and I had to shake my head to bring myself back. When she leaned over to my cheek and kissed it quickly, I heard Simon growl and saw him tense up. Magnus threw his son-in-law a disgusted look while Sophie rolled her eyes

“Down cujo” Sophie sighed, walking over to him

“Mine!” Simon growled low as he took her into his arms and kissed her hard

“We all know she’s yours” Magnus growled back at him

“She knows better than to kiss other males!” Simon said, letting his mate up for air

“On the cheek” Sophie said, her eyes dreamy and her face flushed.

“Still a kiss” Simon said, his voice deep as he sent his a mate a smouldering look “A fraction that needs punishment”

“You better be f*****g kidding” Magnus said, his body growing stiff and hard

“Pop” Sophie said, her eyes wide as she looked between her mate and father

“I don’t think it’s any of your business, old man” Simon said with a puff of his chest

Oh s**t! He went there

“Who the f**k are you calling, old man?” Magnus growled. “I can take you on without even lifting a muscle.”

Simon tensed even more, his eyes becoming hard as he slowly manoeuvred Sophie from his side to his back. Tim looked at me in alarm as he slowly got up from his seat and Scott walked closely towards Sophie as he encouraged her to come with him. The two omegas froze, their fear leaking into the air as they stood rooted in their spots.

“How many times have I said to stop pawing my daughter like that. She’s already pregnant” Magnus said with clenched teeth

“And how many times have I asked you not get between us” Simon replied, his eyes flashing a challenge

“OK guys” Scott said calmly “Let’s not escalate this”

“How could you not know I wasn’t talking about actual punishment?” Simon said aggressively.

“OK Si” Sophie said as she put a hand on her mates arm “Pop, just drop it”

“Oh I know in what capacity you meant it at” Magnus growled “You’d think with three kids already and another on the way…you

would ease up a little”

“Wh-” Simon tried to speak

“Ok grandpa. Stop scaring everyone” Kai cut in

I looked over at the door and watched Kai walk in with confidence and realised that Simon and Magnus had frozen in their place. Tim covered a cough behind his hand as he shook his head and I watched Scott follow Kai’s movement with his eyes. I watched in amazement as he sent a healing vibe into the room and I saw both Simon and Magnus calm down, their bodies no longer tense and hard.

“Kai!” Magnus said as he whipped the boy up into his arms once he was released again

Just like that, the tension drained out of the room as Sophie nuzzled Simon and Scott puffed out a deep breath. As soon as the air clogged with alpha power had eased, the frightened omegas quietly left the room, the food and drinks now all neatly laid out

“Kai” Simon said, looking at his son “What did we say about you interrupting a meeting”

“That I’m not allowed -” Kai repeated.

“Exactly” Simon said with a pointed look

“Unless grandpa looked like he was gonna kill you” Kai finished

“Excuse me” Simon said, folding his arms

“That’s not what we talked about, mister” Sophie said with a smirk

“I know” Kai said with a solemn look “But I promised grandpa I wouldn’t let him do something or be silly when we spoke yesterday”

We all whipped our heads to look at the imposing alpha who looked at Kai sheepishly and hugged him before letting him down onto his feet.

“Pop?” Sophie asked, her eyes wide

Magnus cleared his throat and looked at Sophie with a pointed look and folded his arms once again, his muscles bulging like a flexing body builder

“I thought we agreed that you girls weren’t going to get involved with this” Magnus said

“I only came in to see my mate and say Hi to Ray” Sophie said. She looked over at me and smiled, her eyes sparkling “Hi Ray, how you doin?”

“I’m good Soph” I said with a laugh “How you feeling?”

I looked at her stomach and raised an eyebrow. She smiled, her hand caressing her rounded stomach as she leaned back against her mate who put his arm around her

“A little tired but good” She looked at Magnus who nearly opened his mouth “Everyone seems to forget that I’m the supreme and that I am fine”

“Well technically, you’re not the supreme supreme” Kai said with a logic beyond his years. “Because the power is connected to me. But I don’t mind sharing the power with mum”

“Thanks baby” Sophie said, her lips smiling even as her eyes rounded

“Where’s your brother and sister?” Simon asked

“Sleeping” Kai said with a smile “They really need an extra couple of hours of sleep in the afternoon. It will help mum have some time when her back hurts. That happens in the afternoon too because the baby moves and kicks a lot then and the pain then moves around to her back. You really shouldn’t have tense meetings in the afternoon dad, that way, you can be with mum to help with the tennis balls”

Wow! He really did just tell his dad how to be a mate! Damn.

“Grampa, you smirking isn't helping all of this you know” Kai said, telling them both off “The quicker you sort this out and help uncle

Ray and uncle Jason with this issue, the quicker we can be families again”

Kai telling them off really felt wrong on so many levels, but the way both Simon and Magnus became quiet made me think about his words. Kai knows something about our pack

“Kai” I said, smiling at him “What do you mean about being. family?”

“No” Simon said, walking towards me

“What?” I asked, confused

“No” Simon said as he took Kai’s hand in his “Kai, we spoke about this. You need to stop interfering and putting yourself in danger

like this”

“I’m not putting myself in danger dad” Kai said in a strong voice “I am just helping to fix problems so my path to my mate is clear and she is safe. She won't stay safe if you all don't work together and fight your petty arguments”

Well s**t. Not only did he know something. He just told a bunch of grown men they were being petty while declaring we weren’t keeping his mate safe. Jason would s**t bricks if he heard Kai speak like this about his princess.

“I’m sorry man” Simon said as he looked at me “I can’t”

Simon shakes his head and takes Kai to Sophie who chews her bottom lip and looks between me and Kai before smiling and taking Kai by his hand. As she walks to the door, she stops and looks at us

“We’ll see you guys at dinner tonight” Sophie nods her head “Enjoy the lunch. No killing each other ok? It was good to see you Ray”

“You too Soph” I nod

She smiles and walks out with Kai who she mutters to about his promise to them. I wonder what promise? Something else was going on here

“Leave it” Simon said

“The f**k guys?” Scott growls “you both started clogging the air with Soph around”

Simon folded his arms as he looked at Magnus who kept his face passive, his eyes betraying nothing.

“Something is up with you” Simon said with conviction “Ever since you said you would stay…you’ve been different.”

“Your exaggerating” Magnus said, mimicking Simon’s body language

“Could we not call Kai back in here” Scott said “That kid has eyes and ears everywhere”

“What is with that?” I say as I walk towards Simon “I know I’m not crazy when I said it felt like three extra alpha’s were in the room when Kai walked in. He feels more powerful.”

Simon sighs and Magnus nods his head. That seemed to be their focus that helped calm them both down

“He is” Simon replied quietly

“How powerful?” I asked, my head working overtime.

“Too powerful” Simon responded.

What the f**k did that even mean?

“He’s something more than a supreme. Isn’t he?” Tim asked

“What?” I asked, my eyes widening.

“It’s not up for discussion” Simon said gruffly

“Not up for discussion?” I puffed out a breath “Are you kidding? f**k man….you need to speak to Jas about this!”

“This has nothing to do with him” Simon groused.

I opened my mouth, running a hand over my hair

“Of course it does! And it affects Aria!” I said with my own growl.

“Leave it” Scott said, stepping between us “For now…leave it. Let’s not forget why we are here”

I shake my head, worried as I thought how to process this and what action to take. Magnus walked to the table and poured himself a cup of coffee and turned around to look at us as Simon held my gaze silently.

“Scott’s right. Kai isn’t the topic just now. We have to make a plan” Magnus said

“But” I started

“Soon, but not just now” Simon said, his jaw tight

I knew when to let the topic go as I watched Simon struggle with whatever was eating him about his son. I winced as I thought about the conversation with Jason and his reaction to what little I knew and I nodded. Tim cleared his throat and walked towards the table

“When are we going up to Scotland then?” Tim asked

“Tomorrow” Scott said “Whatever’s happening, it’s going to happen over the next couple of days”

“And this informant” I asked “it’s all legit and everything's been checked?”

“Three times” Simon said with a nod

Tim filled his plate with sandwiches and pastry snacks as he walked to the chair and sat down, his mouth working but his brain working faster

“And is there a plan if it’s some sort of trap?” Tim asked

“Scott, Magnus, his beta and three others from his pack as well as mine will be going. That’s why I asked you not to bring more with

you. Harder to blend in with such a big group of men” Simon said

When he started making a plate, Scott took a cup of coffee and made a face

“Off coffee?” I said with a laugh

“Ever since the birth, yeah” Scott said before opening a can of coke “Weirdest s**t ever”

“Might have something to do with Kelsie” I said, nodding “Anna was the same after birth and Jason went off it too. That guy loves his coffee”

“Really?” Scott asked with raised eyebrows “Huh. She never said”

“I don’t know the in and out of it but something to do with mated males being affected partially by magick. Best check with Anna” I said before taking a mouthful of coffee “Magnus, I know Rashid is aware we are working together; would it be best to send your beta to him before hand to scope out our meeting place?”

“Already done” Magnus nodded “He, along with the others, have already left and on their way. It’s going to be just us in this room that will go tomorrow. The rest of my men will be arriving shortly to take care of the pack with John”

“You know” Simon said, sitting down “what gets me…where was this informant when you went to talk about the facility? Why come forward now?”

“I thought the same thing” I said as I agreed with him

“We will know soon enough” Magnus said “But whatever this is…..It feels like s**t is going to hit the fan in a big way”

I nodded, my eyes scanning everyone in the room as I thought about all the possibilities of who this person is and why they have come forward now. As we all started eating and appreciated the effort Sophie took to get us some food, I kept thinking about Kai and Magnus. Something was up - more than Simon was admitting. Maybe he didn’t know and maybe he did….for now, I would need to keep a close eye on my nieces future mate and grandpa-in-law to be.
