It was happening again

I felt it as my anger spiked when Simon and I started to argue. I could feel myself starting to unravel and my desire to maul his throat was so strong that Kai intervened.

They don’t know how hard it’s been not to keep looking for this smell but my girls were right. Celine has put a spell on and I can still taste it lingering in the air but the compulsion to find it was too strong for me to not follow. Changes are coming and Kai is going to be the centre of it all; I can tell. This insistent need to find whatever this thing is…is so strong and my gut tells me it’s urgent and there's a reason for it.

It was Kai who had approached me, telling me he knew how conflicted I was feeling and that something big was going to happen. Feeling out of sorts was an indication that whatever magick Celine had placed on this smell was now starting to affect me

“Pop’s”

I turned around from the window and blinked as I looked at Sophie walking towards me, her step’s hesitant

“What’s wrong my pup?” I asked her gently

“That’s what I wanted to ask you” Sophie said with a smile “What’s going on?”

“Nothing” I replied, moving to take her her hand and helping her sit on the sofa

I looked at the clock and raised an eyebrow when I realised it was almost past midnight. When I looked at Sophie again, I saw her watching me with a frown

“Why are you still up my pup? I didn't even realise it was so late” I asked her

“Exactly” Sophie frowned back “I know something is up. Your not you. And what Kai said….I know something is going on between

you guy’s and I can't stop thinking about it”

“You should be resting” I said gently

“I'm not a kid. I wish you all would stop treating me like fragile glass whenever I’m pregnant” Sophie growled

“Than stop being pregnant” I replied back

Sophie gasped, her eyes wide and I wanted to kick myself. What the f**k was wrong with me?

“I’m sorry my pup. I don't know -” I started

“Your changing” Sophie said, squeezing my hand “And I’m worried”

After a moment of silence, I finally voiced my thoughts

“I am too” I admitted “I’m not myself and every day…it’s getting harder”

“Harder for what?” Sophie asked

“Not to go back to being rogue” I said “To abandoning my family”

Sophie’s open mouth shock spoke volumes

“It’s that smell…it’s done this to you” Sophie said angrily

“Maybe. But I think there’s something else. Something and some other reason it’s pulling me to it” I sighed

“Pop” Sophie started “Let me help”

“NO!” I shouted, startling her “No Sophie. Whatever this is, you can't get involved. I don't know why but you girls…all of you have to stay safe. My wolf…he's on the edge. He wants to fight all of your mates and hide his pups away…for good”

“For good?” Sophie asked, confused

“For good…..my wolf wants to kill your mates and keep his pups safe from any other men touching them” I admitted quietly

“POP’S!” Sophie exclaimed in a shocked voice

“I know” I nodded, getting up “I need you to keep this between us. No-one can know”

“That’s why Kai stepped in” Sophie said with worry

“Yes. He know’s. Actually, he was the one to approach me and tell me something was wrong with me. But I have a feeling he knows more than he is letting on” I sighed again and sat down

“Simon would…oh goddess! Pop….Si would…” Sophie cut off with a sob

“Make me leave and never return or let you girls near me…I know. And he would be in his right to do so. But…..my wolf would go nuts and possibly attack” I quietly took her hand in mine and kissed the back of it “You must promise not to say anything…to anyone.

At least until I've spoken to Rashid”

“Rashid? How is he involved” Sophie asked

“I asked a few leading questions that he picked up on. We need to sort this Ray issue out first. I have a feeling something big is going on…something we are not prepared for” I said

Helping her up, I took her hand and walked out of the office that I used whenever I stayed with Simon and Sophie’s pack and walked with her to the lift. Once in, I used my key to go to the top level

“Why has Simon let you walk over to me. I could have come to you if you called me” I asked her

“I tried to mind-link you but it was blocked. And he doesn’t ‘let’ me do anything. I decide to do what I want” Sophie huffed out in annoyance

I chuckled at her annoyance, remembering when my own mate felt that way too. We men want to wrap them up in cotton wool and bubble wrap but the woman…they had backbone. They had steel and they wanted it their way. My own mate had been just as annoyed whenever I tried to encourage her to rest more.

That word again! It’s been years I have been alone…actually, a lot longer since my mate had started changing after Sherry had been born and yet that word spears my heart like never before.

“Pop” Sophie said gently “We’re here”

I blinked and saw the opened lift doors and smiled at Sophie, bringing her out with me

“SO where’s Simon?” I asked

“He and Scott just finished putting everything in place. Kelsie is preforming a safety spell and Ray and Tim just went to the kitchen I

think” Sophie said as she unlocked her door

As we stepped in, a young omega walked out of the living room and paused when she saw us. Her eyes lowered as she spoke

“Luna, is everything ok? You are back quicker than you said”

“Thank you Nadine. No issue, just easier for us to talk here” Sophie said with a smile “Are the kid’s ok? Then, it’s ok…you can head off”

Sophie went to to her purse and took out some notes. When she tried to give it to the omega, the poor girl looked scared and horrified.

“No…no Luna” Nadine said, shaking her head “I don’t expect to be paid”

“I know you don’t. But In this pack, everyone’s time is worth something. I know your a student and hope to go to university next year” Sophie said as she placed the money into the omega’s hands

“B..But I’ll be applying for the pack funding” Nadine said wide-eyed

“I know” Sophie smiled as she walked her towards the door “But till then, this helps and both Simon and I believe in helping and paying for things. No-one is exempt from being treated fairly. If I was in the human world, I’d be paying for a babysitter. So keep it,

“T…thank you” Nadine said, her face flushed.

Sophie locked the door behind the girl and walked towards the first bedroom, opening the door to look in and see the twins still sleeping in their beds. She moved to Kai’s room and poked her head in and made a sound. She opened the door wider and we both stepped in, our minds both connecting to Kai’s before he suddenly appeared….with Aria sleeping in his arms

“Kai!” Sophie hissed quietly

“Hi mum” Kai whispered back

“Your dad-” Sophie began

“Can't tell me to keep away from my mate when she cries” Kai whispered

He turned his back on us and with his mind, moved the covers back from his bed and placed Aria gently on the bed before tucking in the covers around her. He placed a soft kiss to her forehead and brushed her hair back from her face before turning the lights off and keeping only the moon and stars night light on. The room looked like a swirling galaxy moving around on his ceiling and when Sophie opened her mouth again, Kai used his mind-link to ask us to wait outside his room.

I raised an eyebrow at that command and felt my wolf bristle at the order before he grumbled and went back to sleep. I knew it was Kai who did that to the wolf and I kept quiet as he followed us out of the room and closed the door gently behind him…but not before he threw a lingering look at his mate…..a look full of longing, love and yes….desire.

Sophie and I looked at each other with worry…this wasn’t good

“Kai” Sophie began “You can't just take Aria every time she cries or wants you”

“Actually I can” Kai said matter-of-factly “She’s my mate. Her every emotion is my concern. She’s mine”

“I..know sweetie” Sophie said “But she’s too young-”

“I’m not going to have s*x with her until she’s at least sixteen” Kai said

My eyes almost bugged out of my head. Sophie paled and looked ready to faint

“Kai” Sophie tried again

“I get we are both young. Don't worry mum. When I’m with her, I don’t touch her sexually. That would be wrong. I love and care for her. She’s my mate and my soul recognises her as mine. I know to wait” Kai explained

“Sixteen-” Sophie started

“Is realistic. Kids young as thirteen are having s*x mum. While I will wait happily for however long it takes her to want to be with me sexually be that at sixteen or thirty….I’M not going to deny my mate anything if she asks for it. Sixteen is my minimum target. I hope she will wait longer but lets be realistic and honest….how many do wait longer than that?” Kai said as he looked at his mother

Shit! The kids right but god-damned…He sounded like a man talking than a kid who still slept in dinosaur pajamas and liked his marvel hero’s. I mean, my mate had been just thirteen when I had first kissed and held her. And he’s right, I certainly was younger than sixteen

when I first had s*x.

“Kai” Sophie sighed, her hand pressing her forehead

“Why did you go to Aria?” I asked, trying to change the topic

“I-” Kai started

I held my hand up. I pulled Sophie’s hand away from her forehead and helped her to the sofa. Kai immediately left and went to the kitchen. By the time I helped her take her shoes off and plumped some cushions for her, Kai had come back with a small tray with what looked like diluted juice and some crackers.

“Will help settle the baby mum” Kai said as he placed the tray on the table

“Thanks love” Sophie said with a shaky smile

“I know you worry but It’s going to be ok. I won’t do anything that will cause uncle Jason to freak out about Aria and I. I couldn’t harm her or have se-” Kai cut off when Sophie made a sound

“Please baby” Sophie winced as she took a sip of water “No talking about you and…”

“s*x” Kai said “It’s ok and natural mum”

I coughed out a laugh and Sophie glared at me before sighing and rubbing her forehead again

“Why did you go to Aria? And why did you bring her back” Sophie asked him

“Because she was having a nightmare and she pulled me into it” Kai replied calmly

“She what?” I asked, my head going back and forth between Kai and Sophie

“S…She can do that?” Sophie asked

“Sometimes. She can't always control it. But this one was scary…sad” Kai said

“What was it?” I asked her

“I’m not sure. She called me to her as she was rolling towards the edge of the cliff” Kai explained and sat beside his mother

“SHE WAS ALMOST HANGING OFF AN EDGE OF A CLIFF?” Sophie screeched

“Mum!” Kai whispered before wincing “Not so loud. You’ll wake the twins”

“Kai Julies Donovan don't you forget I am the mother and you are the child. You better explain that to me right now!” Sophie said in anger

“All I know is she was running and just as I appeared in her dream after feeling her fear, something shook the pathway she was on and it became a cliff. I fell down on the ground but Aria fell and rolled towards to the edge of the cliff. I caught her hand and made a protective dome around. Also, i didn't say she was hanging off the cliff. Point in fact” Kai said with authority

“Pop” Sophie whispered

“Kai” I said as I nodded to Sophie “What happened?”

“I picked her up and she hugged me, crying that she didn’t want anyone to die and that her uncle and dad kept becoming one. I tired to understand but she cried so much and I couldn’t stand to see her break her heart like that. So i compelled her to sleep and took her to where grandma Deedee was. But when I tried to put her to her bed, she kept holding my top so I bought her here. At least she won’t feel scared and cold in my bed” Kai said before taking a sip from his own glass and picking up a chocolate chip cookie

“Compel” Sophie said in a shocked whisper

“Both brothers becoming one? Who is dying?” I asked, shocked

My head whirled as I thought of the implication. Was this something to do with the current situation with Ray and Jason?

“Pop’s” Sophie whispered “How is he able to compel?”

“I shook my own head, my mind buzzing with what Kai said.

“Kai” I said as I bent beside him “Whatever is happening with me….is it affecting what Aria said?”

“No grandpa” Kai said, his mouth full of the cookie “Your issue is your wolf and your destiny. Aria’s is a vision of a possible future. Of what can come to pass but can be changed”

“Oh lord” Sophie whispered

“She has the gift of sight?” I asked, shocked beyond words “So young!”

“Yep” Kai said with pride but then he frowned “But what she see’s, she doesn’t understand yet. I’ll help her with her training”

Sophie almost choked and I almost fell forward from my knees. The situation with Kai and Aria didn’t just become complicated…mega diarrhea has just hit the fan! I can’t wait to see what Simon and Jason say about this!

I barely had that thought when I heard the door open. f**k! Simon’s home. I saw Sophie look at me tensely before chewing her bottom lip. I got up and went to sit down beside Kai who was busy drinking and eating, his face and actions once more like a young boy.

I heard Simon go into the kitchen and open the fridge, not realising that the living room light was on and the door a little open. I heard the sound of a fizzy can opening as he took a drink and then made his way into the hall way. Sophie and I both winced when we realised that he had just checked the twins room and closed the door. Kai stopped and looked at us when we heard Simon open Kai’s

“What the f**k?” Simon yelled out “f**k!”

Sophie winced when she heard the can of fizz hit the floor and her face fell as she looked at me.

“In here Si” Sophie called out

“Soph!” Simon yelled out “What the hell is Ari-” Simon stopped when he walked into the living room and saw us all

His eyes strayed to Kai and his mouth opened and closed a few times before he came into the room and closed the door behind him

“Kai!” Simon frowned deeply “W-”

“Swearing like that in front of my mate is not cool dad” Kai said with a frown

Simon huffed out a breath, hand placed firmly on each side of his hips as he threw a confused and irritated look at Sophie and I both

“Si….you might wanna sit down for this” Sophie said, patting the empty space beside her

“Why?” Simon asked, his body stiffening as he looked at us all

“Trust me” I said with a nod “You need the seat”

Simon looked at us worriedly before sighing and walking towards his mate. Bending down, he kissed Sophie lightly on the lips before running a gentle, loving hand over her bump. I felt my wolf growl in anger and tried to calm myself. When I felt my wolf suddenly go quiet, as if encased in a block of ice; i looked up to see Simon standing as if ready for a fight and Sophie trying to stop him

“What the f**k Magnus?” Simon hissed out

“We have a problem” Sophie said quietly

Simon looked at Sophie with a ‘are you kidding me?’ look and I shook my body as I felt the ice work my way over to my shoulder.

When I saw Kai look at me, I saw his left index finger rotating round.

“Kai” I said, my voice rough “What are you doing?

“Helping grandpa” Kai said

I felt a searing pain hit my chest before it carried onto the middle of my back. I wanted to shout out, angry and unsure of what was going on. I tried to stand up when pain hit my head and it felt like someone was poking large needles in my brain. I felt myself crash forward as my legs turned to jelly and my eyes closed - darkness surrounding me as I became unconscious
