Chapter One
Anna was slowly roused from sleep by the warm sunlight filtering through the windows. Without knowing, a smile graced her lips. She turned and opened her eyes, deep blue turning tangerine in the morning sun. She blinked sleep out of her eyes and stifled a yawn. She tried to turn but found that a heavy hand on her cheek was preventing her from doing so. "Good morning," A deep voice said, causing tingles in her belly. Anna slapped a hand over her mouth and rushed out of bed instantly. She went straight to the bathroom and brushed her teeth. Once she was done, she rushed back to bed and assumed her previous position. She flashed a bright smile. "Good morning darling, sleep well?" Her husband, Edward nodded. His hand on her cheek began to move, his fingertips tracing patterns into her skin. Anna felt goosebumps of desire cover her skin even though it was so early in the morning. "You look well rested," He commented, his dark eyes taking in her face. "That's good." Anna frowned, unsure what he meant. But as quick as it came, the confusion was gone. She had been married to Edward for a year and it was pure Bliss. He was every woman's dream, rich, handsome, kind. He treated her with respect and made her feel loved. He had the looks of a supermodel with the sculpted body of a Greek god. As she laid beside him, staring into his dark eyes, Anna felt more love for him bloom in her heart. She doubted that one could fall even more in love, but alas here she was. Edward was her life, her love, her everything. She was grateful that they had met each other. Edward pulled his hand from her cheek and rose out of bed. Anna sat up, wondering what he was trying to do. He walked over to the desk and pulled an envelope. He walked back to her and handed the envelope to her. Anna laughed, an uneasy sound. Why did Edward look so serious? Where was the soft smile he had flashed her just seconds ago?! "Darling, what is this?" Edward gestured to the envelope. "Open it and read it please." Anna stared at him for a while. He didn't move, just returned her stare. She looked down at the envelope and opened it. There were two pieces of paper inside. A big one and a smaller one. She took out the big one and looked at it. As she read the lines, her smile reduced and reduced until it had vanished. She looked up at Edward sharply. "What is this?!" She asked. "You're....you're..." "That's right, Anna." Edward said. He raised his brows as if he'd just realized something. "Ah, I see what it is. Don't tell me you forgot." Anna realized her hands were trembling. A cold feeling washed over her like a wave. The happiness she'd woken up with flew right out of the window. Even the sunlight on her skin felt cold. "You...you can't be serious." She said, her voice a breathy whisper. "Edward we have something, the both of us. You can't just throw it all away?" Edward huffed. "Look, Anna, it's all in the papers okay? That's your signature at the bottom of the page, isn't it?" Anna stared at the paper again. Contract of Marriage, it said, between Edward Jackson and Annabel Hudson to last the period of 365 days after which the contract marriage will be terminated permanently. She felt her blood run cold. She had forgotten, she had totally forgotten that Edward wasn't even her husband, her real husband. The marriage was a business agreement to show the world that the charismatic and enigmatic billionaire, Edward Jackson was a family man. She had forgotten that their marriage was fake, to be terminated. She had forgotten that she wasn't to fall in love with him, that's the life she had with him was a mere dream. Her heart split in half. She rose out of bed, her knees feeling weak as she took baby steps over to him. The eyes that had once regarded her warmly now stared at her with contempt, like she was some sort of creature. "Edward..." Anna said, swallowing tears. "Please don't do this. I beg you...." Edward tilted his head to the side. "Why not?" Anna felt her eyes vloud up with hot tears. She grabbed his face and looked deep into his eyes. "Edward we are in love, right? This past year wasn't an illusion, it was real. What we have is real!" "No it isn't." Edward scoffed. "Wake up Anna, play house is over. Pack your things and leave. You'll find a cheque in the envelope. It's yours...." Anna shook her head wildly. "Please, please don't do this to me....I can't live without you!" Edward grabbed her shoulder sna d threw her aside. She got up immediately and crawled over to him, grabbing his legs "Please!" She cried, her voice breaking "please I'll die without you! I love you so much! Please don't send me away," she gripped his legs as hard as she could, her face wet with tears as she sobbed. "Let go of me Anna," She shook her head holding him even tighter. "Let's make it permanent, please, we can get marriedfor real!" "Anna, shut up and get out." "NO! I'M NOT LEAVING YOU!" "Yes you are." Edward grabbed her hair and pulled her off him. Anna screamed, a sound of pure anguish, her voice echoing off the walls. She begged, she pleaded with him. He totally ignored her and got dressed hastily. She cried for him to stay, promising to be the perfect wife. Edward turned and stared at her, disgust and pity in his eyes. "Be gone by the time I return or I'll call the cops." He left and slammed the door after him Anna felt her whole world crumble and fall. Her knees gave way and she fell to the ground, banging her knee again. She hardly registered the pain, the one in her chest masking the rest. She gripped the fabric of her nightdress over her heart tight. Her lips trembled and sobs spewed from her lips. She curled up on the floor and began to cry. "Don't go please..." She sobbed, "don't leave me...please don't walk away..." She didn't know how long she laid on the cold floors, crying her heart out. What would she do without Edward? *** The pain was still fresh as ever. It had only been but two days since the termination of her marriage with Edward. Anna was staying over at a hotel, a small suitcase and a change of clothes all she took from his house. She was currently in a cab on her way to Edward's house. There was no way he could send her away just like that, it wasn't possible. After all the time they'd spent together, after all the good times. He was in love with her, she just had to show it to him. The cab dropped her at the house. Drawing in a deep breath, she walked to the front door and tried the combination. It clicked open. She walked through the living room, her heels clicking a bit too loud for her liking. As she approached the bedroom they'd shared as husband and wife, Anna could hear conversation followed by a woman's laughter. Her heart dropped into her stomach and stopped beating for a millisecond. She walked to the door which was wide open. Her eyes went wide as she saw what was going on. There was Edward, shirtless with his hair damp and tousled. And there was a woman lying on the bed leisurely dressed in only a racy red thong. The woman was breathtaking, with fair skin and bright red lips. Her long black hair spilled over the white pillows and sheets like blackest ink. Her green eyes shone with life as she and Edward conversed easily. Anna felt her legs give way, heard her body hit the floor before she realized what had happened. Edward and the woman paused and turned to the door. Shock was written on their faces before the woman quickly recoverd and smiled coyly. "Look Edward Honey, it's the ex wife." Edward glared at Anna murderously. "What are you doing here?" Anna blinked, unable to form a sentence. It had only been two days, and he was already with someone else. She bit her lip to control herself. "A-already?" "Already what? I'm with someone else? Does that shock you?" Edward said coldly. "Did you really think you meant anything to me?" She couldn't. Tears of betrayal rushed to her eyes, stinging and biting. "Stop it, please" "Oh please," The woman groaned. "Send her away already like....get lost b***h!" Anna screamed. "Is this all I was to you?! A warm body?!" "What did you think?" Edward said. "Even while I was with you, I was f*****g other women. You're not special, Anna. You're just easy." Anna felt her heart shatter. It was impossible, he didn't love her at all. She rose to her feet and wiped her eyes. "f**k you Edward." She hissed. "Never show your face around me again." Anna nodded, her cheeks wet with tears. "Oh don't worry, I wouldn't want to." She turned and left the house, sobbing on the way. So much for believing in lyive.
