“Oh god kill me now. Is he serious?” I stood beside Clay staring at the used hay truck and the owner, “He reminds me of the chicken from surfs up.” I mumbled. Clay snorted and grabbed the bags, “If you’d rather walk.” He chuckled and hopped on the back of the trailer. Oh ew. I could smell the wafts of poo, “Ay op Lassie you be getting on board now ay?” What did he just say? Chicken farmer was eating a piece of grass and he wore a floppy sun hat. Typical farmer look with a red checked shirt and dirty jeans, “Can I sit up front instead?” I asked, “Oh no, no lassie, Mr Wingos is in shotgun.” He pointed to the front seats where a black and white sheep dog panted out the window. Mr Wingos? Was a dog. Wonderful. I climbed up the truck trying to avoid the worst parts of hay, “How long are we going to be in here?" I covered my mouth as I spoke trying to block out the stink of poop from the hay, "About an hour." Clay chuckled and rummaged into his bag, pulling out a book. It had a picture of a knife covered in blood on the front. Half an hour passed with me staring at the whizzing road, "Oh I'm bored." Clay blinked and stared at the pages. Wind splashed into my face covering me in cold chills. "I'm cold" My stomach rumbled, "Do we have any food?" He didn't answer. "Why are you ignoring me?!" I shouted over the rush of wind, "Because your just going to moan all the way there" He said, "I'm not. Can I read your book with you?" Clay sighed and mumbled under his breath. He looked up from the pages at me and his eyes widened, "Duck." "Where?" I asked glancing around, "Get down!" He shouted and pulled a gun from his waist band. I looked up and saw the white van. How had they found us? Bullets whizzed in the air. Clay grunted and aimed his handgun. He shot the van's tires and it swayed off the road into the hedge, just as the hay truck's tire burst and skidded to the side of the road. Clay ducked down beside me. "You're gonna have to run. Take this bag and leave the rest, OK? There's money in the bag. Keep running, you will reach a small town, then ring the number Amilla OK?" He said. I stared at him, "What about you?" I asked. Clay shrugged and handed me something. A gun, "Whoa no. Nope I can't, I dunno how to..." A bullet hit the truck, "You have 17 rounds, bullets. It's fully loaded. click the safety switch to unlock it." He clicked a switch on the gun, "Put your finger above the trigger, never rest it on it, hold it tight the kickback can hurt else." Another bullet whizzed passed us, "When you fire aim and pull the trigger. OK? Only use it if you need to. Now quick, run." Clay rolled off the side of the truck and a wave of bullets enveloped the air. s**t. I had to do this, and leave him. I bit my lip and jumped off the truck, avoiding the spare tyre on the back. The driver and his dog had already disappeared. Which gave me an idea. I stared at the tyre on the truck. I'd seen someone change a tyre before. I could try. I stopped running and jumped back on the truck grabbing the wheel. Ew oil and wow heavy, on the wheel was a piece of paper. Changing your tyre Oh thank you god. It was instructions to change wheels. Clay was in hand to hand combat with a giant gorilla man and down the road I could see a new van driving up. Crap, hurry Scarlett. OK let me see. 1. Use the jack which came with your car to rise the vehicle Jack? Huh? There was a picture of a it though. A shout echoed from the van. Clay was staring at me. Oosp guess he knows I'm hanging about. I found the jack thing beside the wheel and slammed it under the truck. Wow this was harder than it looked on T.V 2. Remove the damaged wheel How? Great instruction. I found a toolbox in the front of the car in the glove compartment and thank you god! After five minuets I had the new wheel on and ready to go. Wow, I really wasn't as dumb as I looked. "Clay hurry!" I jumped in the car and turned the key. The truck roared to life and I twisted the driver's wheel as I moved it back onto the road, "s**t Scarlett." Clay jumped into the passenger seat. I stared at him, "What?" "You. Are. Amazing. Drive, quickly." He said and hung out the window firing bullets, "No, you are." I muttered and slammed my foot on the speed. I flicked on the radio which was on the news borrrrring. "Thanks for the weather and now the main headlines for the south west. A boy speaks out about his tragic experience of being shot but surviving from his hospital bed. James Rossol was shot along with Trev Bigon. It was said they were shot by a well known gang who call themselves The Riders. Police are trying to locate the whereabouts of a Mr Clay Blackers and a Miss Scarlett Burnley it is said that they are the leaders of this terrorising gang and now over to James Rossol a local hero, "So James you were shot but survived with a flesh wound. What have you got to say?" "I'm happy I'm alive but the betrayal of my friend Scarlett hurts more than the bullet shot." "And what about the death of Trev Bigon? How do you feel about it?" "I didn't know the guy, but it still hurts to know he died for no reason." "And if Scarlett was listening right now.. What would you say to her?" "I would tell her to hand herself in. There's no point running anymore, just let Trev's family see justice." I switched over the radio channel, "s**t James is alive." I smiled and a weight lifted off my chest, "But they think were the leaders of this gang? Is that why we couldn't call the police?" I stared at Clay, who was slumped in his chair his eyes closed. s**t, red was soaked though his grey trousers "Clay?" I looked in the truck mirrors where in the distance a van was still following us. "Crap. I have to get you to the hospital." "No!" He mumbled and opened an eye, "You heard the radio. They think we're the leaders." He gasped, "Get to the town and call the number under Amilla's name. She will help." He grunted, and closed his eyes again, "Open your damn eyes Clay. Don't you bleddy die on me." I hissed at him. Don't die on me. Don't leave me.
