CHAPTER 1- DISAPPOINTED BY HER LOVE
VIOLET’s POV
The last thing I expected on the night of my wedding anniversary was to see my husband cuddled up in the arms of another woman and not just any other woman but his past lover!
‘Got you a little surprise in bed. Hurry up before it gets cold.’
My mind slipped to the lingerie I was wearing underneath my pink dress. A naughty smile curled up my lips. My fingers grazed the hem of the pink dress clinging to my hips, a secret smile tugging at my lips. Lace whispered against my skin underneath—the lingerie he hasn’t seen yet. One I had put on specially for him.
Every one of the decorations and meals was ready in our bedroom that evening for the preparation of our anniversary dinner I had spent all day planning for us. Candles flickered across our bedroom.
Rose petals trailed over the silky sheets and the scent of his favorite garlic-herb steak still lingered in the air. I had spent the entire day making sure everything was perfect. Everything for him.
Earlier that morning when Adrian left for work without wishing me a happy anniversary left a dull feeling in my heart. It was our second year together and he doesn’t remember? Could it be he had forgotten but how could he? He didn’t even ask why I won’t be coming with him to the office today.
However, all my excitement faded to the wind when Adrian didn’t return home an hour later than seven. Two more hours passed and I began to lose my patience. Worry started to creep in in no time and that was when I called him but his response was rather hostile which took me by surprise.
“Are you making a habit of interrupting me during important moments?” He scolded loudly.
My throat tightened. “I got worried. You were taking so long.” I exhaled, putting on a cheerful voice. “When will you be back?”
“Back?” He scoffed on the other end. “I’m in a board meeting, Violet, and ofcourse I wouldn’t expect a mere designer to actually understand what’s at stake.”
My eyes were wide open. “A board meeting? At 9pm?” My voice cracked. “But it’s our anniver—“
Click. The line went dead. I was cut short by the loud beep from my phone. He hung up on me. It’s our anniversary and he doesn’t give a damn?! I felt my knees weaken and give way, sending me crumbling to the floor. I sit in that position for a while feeling stunned and void of every other emotion. What’s going on?
Why would Adrian choose to ignore our anniversary like this? Or could it be the board meeting had been impromptu and he was left with no choice? But a meeting at 9pm? Really?
Just then, my phone dinged with a notification. Did he send me a message? My heart jumped as I scrambled for my phone. Reaching for the desk, I grabbed the device from the table only to realize it was a notification from the gossip blog I follow on i********:.
MR RAVEWOOD SIGHTED AT THE FAMOUS ‘WINE AND DINE’ RESTAURANT A FEW HOURS AGO.
A gasp escaped my lips.
That’s it! Adrian was probably there planning me a romantic dinner all evening. That was why he was taking time to come home and he only yelled at me earlier on because he didn’t want to give up any hints.
Feeling the rush of excitement return with full force, I decided to surprise him as well. I threw a jacket over my shoulder, rushing out of my room and down the stairs like I was in a race. Once the outside the building, my heels clicked loudly against the ground as I made my way to the garage and got into my car, speeding through the streets to meet with him at Wine and Dine.
Minutes later, the sound of my phone’s ringing tone pierced through the air disrupting my attention as I snatched my eyes from the road down to the screen only to realize it was my doctor. Not in the mood to get disappointed again about yet another negative pregnancy test, I simply ignored it.
Still, my doctor wouldn’t stop calling and the constant ringing was driving me nuts not to mention the distraction. The noise was making it difficult for me to focus on driving so I reached out to my phone, swiping my thumb over on the green logo then to the speaker logo.
“Good evening Doctor Brown.” I cleared my throat whilst keeping my eyes up head at the road. “Can you call me back later? I’m a little busy and—“
“Congratulations Mrs Ravenwood.” The woman’s cheerful voice sounded from the other end taking me by surprise.
I stared into my cell and then back on the road with my free hand maneuvering the steering wheel.
“I’m sorry, what?” My eyelashes fluttered in utter confusion.
“Your results are out, ma’am. You’re four weeks gone.”
