Chapter 58

“Good day miss Aimely,” the woman immediately greeted her as she opened the door for her. “Good day Rachelle,” she says back with a smile as she entered the room. Crystal was greeted by a minty fresh office room in black and white décor, with glass tables and a really high-end computer, along with an assistant of her own. The floors were shining with nicely lined tiles and it even had a rug and a personal table in the middle much like in Larse’s office. It was her first day at work and her assistant had already been brief with her arrival, so there was not much issue when she arrived. Everything was already set up for her, from her I.D. to the security guards, everyone was well informed of her new position within the company. Now she was really glad that she had accepted the man’s job offer, though she decided to just opt with the three times salary increase and a very well detailed contract. Crystal was all smiles as she sat on her chair, feeling the nice smooth glass table that was meant specially for her. Her appreciation and quality time were only disturbed by three knocks on her door. Making her straighten in her chair. “Come in!” she says when she had finally fixed herself in place. Larse peaked from the door as he opened it looking or her. “Hey,” he greets seeing her sitting behind the desk smiling as he stepped inside. “Hey,” she immediately stood to greet him. “Everything to your liking?” Larse looked around hand pointing at the newly renovated office with pride. “Yes, it’s more than I bargained for, so just be sure to fulfill your side of the bargain and we shouldn’t have any issues,” she gives him a meaningful wink as they had already agreed on some things. Mainly, she was never going to be under anyone that had any coordination or ties with Dana, plus she would only be placed in a position in which she has actual knowledge. “Of course, of course,” he says chuckling while fanning his hand, “by the way, I have someone I’d like you to meet.” Stepping aside the man then looked behind him and nodded to someone outside. It wasn’t even a moment when a voluptuous woman walked inside, head bent down, hands together and she seemed nervous to even raise her eyes at her, though she’d make quick glances at her. “Lorry, this is Crys, she’ll be helping you out with your work here,” Larse introduced. “He...hello, please just call me Lorraine,” the woman states trying to look at her though she still seemed apprehensive to keep her eyes on her. Crystal suddenly felt relieve and happy when she heard the name, it was only then that she was able to finally recognize her. Though she seemed much thinner now with longer hair, she was definitely the lively and lovable girl that she met in her other timeline. “Hello Lorraine, it’s so great to finally meet you,” she offered her hand to the woman. “Oh?” Lorraine quickly reachers for it and gives her a soft and careful shake. It seems the woman was never able to move forward from the ties that the woman’s parents had implanted within them. It wasn’t really a surprise to her, seeing as even Larse was unable to move away from the same shackles. “You’re brother’s told me so much about you, I think we’re going to get along.” Wanting to make the woman feel less tense and relaxed, she tried to make use of their previous conversation in the other timeline that she was in. “Really! I...I mean, I don’t know if I’m going to be of any help at all.” Lorraine’s eyes had had this sort of twinkle as he heard those sweet words but was quickly back to her wary self after seeing her brother's serious looks. That did not escape Crystal's gaze, making her think that even up to now the two were still having trouble as Larse was the model son, while Lorraine was seen as the failure of a child. “You don’t have to worry, that’s why I’m here, I’m going to make sure that everything is going to be in tip-top shape and working properly,” she quickly says to once again try to break the ice between them. That managed to return the color and smile on the woman’s face. “That would be great.” She nods, being a bit more subtle than before. “So, I’ll leave you two so you can get acquainted with each other. Lorry, try not to mess things up, all right,” Larse finally excuses himself but not before giving a stern and firm look on her sister as he warned her about the job at hand. Lorraine swallowed hard and her color seems to fade. “Yes,” she shakily answers, along with an almost impulsive nod to the man. Crystal felt a bit bad about that so she decided to intervene, quickly moving in front of the woman to face Larse. “Don’t worry, she’s not going to,” she gives him a warm and assuring smile as he got out of the room. Larse face quickly changes giving her a quick nod. “I’ll leave it to you then,” he merrily states as he closed the door behind him. Turning around to face the woman again Crystal put on her sweetest and warmest smile to once again be able to at least get the girl to loosen up a bit and relax. “So, we will be working together, is this your first time here?” she cheerfully states clapping her hand to get her attention since her head was still looking down. Hearing that Lorraine was quickly in a post of attention. “No, my brother actually decided to transfer me here, since he thought I’d do better with you than from my previous department,” she informs her. That somehow removed her doubt and fury for the man, seeing as he still seemed to look out for her sister in some way. “Oh, well, you don’t need to worry about anything, as long as I’m here I’m going to teach you everything that I know and we’re going to make sure that you’re brother will see you in a whole new light,” she assures her, even making a sort of cheerful gesture with her hand. That seemed to somehow make the woman less wary as she was now smiling and able to look at her directly. “Thanks. I was just wondering, how long have you known my brother exactly? Cause he seems to really be close to you,” Lorraine asks, brows a bit furrowed at the said mystery. Even though she said it in the sweetest and most innocent way, Crystal was sure there was a meaning behind it. Though she just shrugged it off, since there was no reason to hide anything from the woman anyway, seeing as it just might be the woman’s curiosity behind her background since his brother was notorious for womanizing. “Oh, he was my classmate during college from the first to our second year,” she lets out a giggle fanning her hand to her face as if trying to clear out the air around them. That quickly made the girl smile even wider. “Oh, so that’s the reason why he seems to trust you a lot.” The woman slammed her fist to her palms as she had just found out something great. But it was Crystal's turn to feel confused upon hearing those words, she didn’t really think that Larse would actually trust her since it that timeline the man and her only had been classmates besides being acquainted again for a few months because of her old work. “Does he now?” she could not help but smirk and raise an eyebrow. “I shouldn’t have said that,” Lorraine bit her lower lip realizing the gravity of what she had said. “it’s fine. Why don’t we start with work,” she waves it off, then ushered the woman to follow her to the other table beside hers. “Okay!” Lorraine gladly followed. “Let’s start by sorting out some of these paper works first, then will proceed with checking which one needs priority.” Patting on a few stacks of folders on the tables she begins flipping some of it to show to the woman. Feeling a bigger sense of responsibility now, she explained and noted everything that needed to be done and made sure that Lorraine understood all of them. Giving her a complete and easy guide in doing their job together. Lorraine seemed a reliable woman as she was able to quickly follow along besides being very fast in doing her work. For the first few hours, they were focused on sorting, cleaning, and filing documents one after the other. It was only when Crystal noticed Lorraine’s funny gaze that she decided to stop for a bit of chat. “Everything okay Lorraine?” she says softly, making sure not to come out too powerful or intimidating. The woman froze in place as she suddenly went pale. “Yes, it’s just that I thought…” the woman seemed suddenly appalled realizing what she was about to say, ending her in biting her lip to stop. “You thought what?” Crystal could not help but ask. There was a few moments of silence as the girl seemed to be thinking of the proper words to say. “I thought you’d be like you know...but I’m so glad you weren’t.” Lorraine’s trembled as she said those words in a fast and almost straight manner. Yet that just made Crystal more confused as she didn’t really get what the woman was trying to convey. “And who exactly are you talking about?” she just chuckled at her, a bit amused. Not wanting to become rude Lorraine finally heaved a sigh before talking. “Well, almost all the girls my brother’s been with before, they’re usually...not nice, even his wife’s no exception.” That made her raise an eyebrow since she was being compared to the numerous women who the man slept with. “Oh, I’m not one of your brother’s girls, we're just classmates, besides I’m far from nice, I can assure you that,” she giggles at her. “You’re nice to me,” Lorraine quickly says back. There was this shine in the woman’s eyes that made her feel a bit lightheaded and happy since it seemed the woman was starting to like her. “I’m nice to people who deserve my kindness, and you are definitely one of them,” she points out. “Thanks.” A half-smile formed on Lorraine’s face after hearing that. “So, you’re brother still see’s other women right now?” she could not help but ask as her curiosity got the best of her, after hearing about it. “Oh no, no! My brother never did those things since he got married, those were just made up by his wife,” Lorraine quickly says in a panic. Crystal couldn’t help but let out a giggle at the thought. It seems the Larse from the other timeline and the Larse from now were not really that far off from each other, hearing that he may have been faithful up until now and was just really playing around during their college years like he said before. It did not escape her ears about the thought that Dana seemed always suspicious of her husband. “Really? I wonder why.” She couldn't help but grin knowing that the said woman had no peace of mind because of it. Lorraine heaves a sigh. “I don’t know why she’s always thinking like that, to think my brothers never been unfaithful to her,” she says in a weak and almost lifeless voice. “Maybe she’s just scared of her own ghost,” Crystal blurts out as she was aware of the woman’s affairs. “Huh?” That made Lorraine frown in confusion. “Oh nothing, just forget I ever said anything.” She just laughed it off not wanting to ruin nor put a burden on their harmless little chat. Going back to her works Crystal's mind was already in full throttle as she suddenly had ideas on how to fulfill what she wanted.
